  • Magic Burst question-utterly confused.

ok, i understand skillchain, and magic bursts come at the end of skill chain, but what i dont understand are these so called Skill Chain types listed in the guide. What is the difference between liquification and Fuision (type 1 and 2 skillchain types respectively) how woud you get one or the other? which is better? i am really confused. and it seems that casting a spell would be the "finale" to the skillchain which would make a magic burst. i still havent understood what the facts are because people on this board are saying you can "burst of a burst" some say, if multiple mages cast a spell at the end of a skillchain, both would get the burst. so, if 2 blm cast ancient magic at the end of a skillchain would they do godly damage? or would only one count as the magic burst?

please somone explain clearly the facts.
    thanks.

This is covered over, and over, and over on various threads here, but once again we will go over the basics:

Different weapon skills can combine to link into a skillchain (renkei, in Japanese).

The timing of a skillchain is very important. I'll try to explain it as simply as I can.

Whenever any player activates a weapon skill, there is a small window of time which you can call the "special" time after which certain things can happen to generate special effects. From what I can tell, the "special effect window" is something like anywhere between 1 second and 6 seconds after the last weapon skill activation.

If the next weapon skill from the party is activated during this special time window, and the two weapon skills used are compatible, a skillchain is the result.

    Example:

    Player A activates Fast Blade
    3 seconds pass
    Player B activates Burning Blade
Skillchain: Liquefaction triggers, dealing bonus Fire damage to the enemy

After the skillchain is triggered, another special time window begins, during which you can do any of the following:

    - Activate another compatible weapon skill to trigger another skillchain. Doing so ends the current special time window, and starts a new one.
    - Cast a spell/bard song/ninjitsu/avatar ability that matches the elemental affinity of the skillchain on the target. Doing so will trigger a Magic Burst, dealing extra damage beyond what the spell or ability would normally deal.

    Example:

    Player A activates Nightmare Scythe
    4 seconds pass
    Player B activates Double Thrust
Skillchain: Transfixion is triggered, dealing bonus Light damage
Player C casts Banish. Since Banish is a Light element spell, it earns a Magic Burst dealing bonus damage
    3 seconds pass
    Player D activates Viper Bite
Skillchain: Distortion is triggered, dealing bonus ice+water damage to the target
Player E casts Water II, magic burst dealing bonus Water damage
Player E casts Blizzard, magic burst dealing bonus Ice damage

There are 12 different skillchains which can be triggered (using different combinations of weapon skills):

    Level 1 skillchains:

    Transfixion: Light damage
    Compression: Dark damage
    Scission: Earth damage
    Reverberation: Water damage
    Liquefaction: Fire damage
    Detonation: Wind damage
    Impaction: Lightning damage
    Induration: Ice damage

    Level 2 skillchains:

    Gravitation: Dark + Earth damage
    Distortion: Water + Ice damage
    Fusion: Fire + Light damage
    Fragmentation: Lightning + Wind damage

You can string any number of level 1 skillchains together that you can manage to get TPs to activate. Level 2 skillchains, however, end the chain - no matter what weapon skill you add onto the end, it will not generate another skillchain (you have to start over).

Any number of spells can be used to Magic Burst on a skillchain. For instance, a party with PLD, DRG, BLM, BRD, RDM, WHM does the following:

Assuming everyone gets the timing down correctly, you might see that party do something like this:

    PLD activates Red Lotus Blade
    DRG waits 4 seconds
    DRG activates Raiden Thrust
    Skillchain: Fusion
    BLM casts Burn. Magic Burst!
BRD casts Dark Threnondy. Magic Burst!
    RDM casts Fire. Magic Burst!
    WHM casts Banish. Magic Burst!

Good explanation except for this part:

That part is not true, it is just that you are required to use a 225 skill weapon skill to continue at that point, which can either create another level 2 renkei, or can create a level 3 renkei, until you create a level 3 renkei you can continue the level 2's with more 225 skill ws's, after you create a level 3 though it seems that you are done.... unless the new ws's released with the patch can create level 4 renkei's.
