Re: Job with the worst macros

I personally hate it when a RDM notifies the entire PT who they're refreshing. Wastes a line that could be used for, oh, I don't know, a fucking Recast line.

    Refreshing WhiteMage#1

Recast isn't up yet. So, what do they do? They spam it.

    Refreshing WhiteMage#1
    Refreshing WhiteMage#1
    Refreshing WhiteMage#1
    Refreshing WhiteMage#1
    Refreshing WhiteMage#1

    What the hell, dickhead!?!?

    /recast Refresh

    There. -_-

Or when they put in an enfeeble what the hell they're doing. Like that line of text couldn't have gone into a gear swap or something.

I've seen annoying macro spam on pretty much all the jobs to be fair although whms with care bear, "Healing kisses" and, "Altana raise this fallen warrior to fight again!" macros probably make me vomit in my mouth the most.

I hate it when anyone tells me something in a macro that I can already see by reading the line that comes right after the macro.

            "Refresh >>> PartyMember3"
            RedMage casts Refresh on PartyMember3
            "Haste >>> PartyMember4"
            RedMage casts Haste on PartyMember4

I don't have a single /p in any of my RDM macros. Anyone with half a brain can see what I'm doing. I'm sure someone will mention emergencies, but I type fast enough to say /p Sleeping the <t>, or /p Want me to Escape? or what the hell ever else, so I don't need to announce what I'm doing by macro.

And now that I'm thinking about it I don't even announce when I'm sleeping a link. Most parties just assume that I will, and when I do it they are neither surprised, nor concerned.

Lol Thank goodness I don't put messages in my Summoner macros. Anyway, in my opinion, it's either between Summoner, Ninja, Black Mage, and Corsair.

Summoner because of them doing things like "I call forth the goddes of wind etc etc" and another etc etc...

Ninja because the Utsusemi (-(-(-_-)-)-) is annoying since they'd use the macros when their shadows are down and their shadows can be down pretty quick.

Black Mages because of pretty much giving each element (like summoner) a "super" message or something.

Corsair because of the pirate messages.

My vote (not because I AM this job that I'm about to say) goes to Summoner.

Edit: On another note, I saw someone pick Puppetmaster. I'm just curious to why pick that when you rarely see them in a party, but I'm not complaining. xD

I'm not a career WHM, but from time to time when I'm messing around as WAR/WHM or BST/WHM, I get the chance to Raise a friend. And if it's a friend who happens to watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force, I have the following macro:
                /ma "Raise" <t>
                /s Arise, chicken!
                /wait 2
/s One moment... stick upside down.
                /wait 2
                /s Chicken, arise!

My guess is that it has to do with solo'ing players who feel the need to put flavor text into /say with their macros. I remember seeing one solo'ing BST nearby who would constantly pump out the following to /say:
                (when charming a mob)
"He loves, he loves me not."
                (when using Fight)
                "Sic em, boy!"

Re: Job with the worst macros

Any COR that does the pirate shtick needs to be beaten savagely. Its one thing to be a pirate and another thing to be a cliched pirate. If anything, you should be doing gambler macros, but I'd rather them just be informative as to what you are doing or just ditch the flavor macros entirely.

SMNs are the worst, though. I don't care than you feel the need to roleplay in each macro, by calling forth a god in /say each and every time you do it, you're going to lose any invite potential you had. And MNKs and SAMs are almost as annoying with their dumb /em macros for Boost and Meditate, though the dipshit that does the provoke macros aren't much better. If you do it every 15-30 seconds, it doesn't really need a /p or /say macro.

And if you really must roleplay, do us all a favor and fucking learn how to spell. You're already a larger dork than the rest of us for roleplaying, don't make it worse by looking like a moron, too. Show us your fifth grade English teacher didn't fail with you. There is no such word as "ur."

Roleplaying in context to the world around you wouldn't hurt, either. If you are a knight of San d'Oria and want to roleplay, then be a knight from San d'Oria, don't do this labored routine that has no context to the world we're playing in. While most of us don't roleplay, we do kinda build our characters in our heads and see them as part of that world. Its ok to be creative, just be creative in context. I mean, really, lay off the seasoned knight routine when we're slaying rabbits, lizards and crabs in Valkurm Dunes, that's not a noble duty... its killing animals for no good reason other than experience points.

While I do agree that having a macro for every cure is a pain in the ass, they are unfortunately sometimes necessary. One of the most annoying things I have dealt with while playing Whm is to have someone else cast Cures on someone right after I just cast a Regen. Depending on how you look at it, they either just wasted their time and MP or mine. I do change all /p macros to /echo if that situation is not possible ie no one else trying to cure. If people would just pay attention other party members would never see those messages.

Re: Job with the worst macros

The very first advanced job I ever unlocked was SMN and I must admit, back then (couple of years ago) I too had the whole invocation thing going on – no wonder I never got invited LOL.

Since those days of old, I generally restrict my macros to /echo, unless absolutely necessary, as this means I can spam them and no one will care.

Anyway, I voted before really understanding the gist of the thread. I took this to mean which job has the most annoying or fiddly macros to create, or use, to which I voted COR, as I find there aren’t enough slots to do anywhere near everything I want to do with them, not to mention all the gear swaps involving AGI gear for Quick Draw, or the swapping in of Luzaf’s Ring, etc.

But as far as annoying as in the chat that goes with the macros, I would have to say any job that has an irritating “rude” piece of text, which usually comes with Provoke or a pulling macro, and it’s doubly irritating when spelt with internet speak, like “J00 suk mofo {Provoke} ur a$$!”

Re: Job with the worst macros

Perhaps it's due to Midgardsormr being more RP-friendly than most servers, but I've got a few sets of flavor macros across my characters (mostly for Koren, since she's the mage) and rarely receive complaints about them (this probably also owes something to the fact that when things do get busy I end up casting from the menu more often than from macros, so it doesn't tend to get too spammy).

Back before I gave up on using macros for most white magic (I tend to just use them for enfeebles now) I did have both a spam and non-spam set, though.

General rule: If you expect to cast a spell more than 2-3 times per battle (at the levels when battles actually last a while) and it doesn't need attention drawn to it for combat reasons (or to prove you're doing something -- I have faced parties that didn't notice anything that wasn't mentioned in /p...), it shouldn't have a /p line on it. Unless, of course, you don't expect to actually use the macro 90% of the time, in which case you might want to move it to another macro set to make room for those you will.

Re: Job with the worst macros

I came across flavor macros in just about every job.

Dragoon was pretty common, for jump, but me being a RP'er and the like, and not a fan of silent 'information in chat box only' parties anyway, I wasn't bothered. The only thing that bugs me is flavor on a provoke macro, which I had briefly, then got annoyed with and took out.

As summoner I never had flavor text in my summon macros. I had some for shits on a tray I used during solo/pissing about, but in party, no, never. It's a shame there's no RP server where even tasteful ones wouldn't get mocked, but oh well.

The one that annoys me most is Last Resort, though. It was funny maybe the first time I saw it. By the time emodrk#234232 used it, it wasn't funny anymore.
