  • Latent Effect Earings

I was just looking over the AH and found several Earings (lvl 30) that have a "Latent Effect" attribute.

    What does that mean?

I am specificaly interested in the Wyvern's Earing (+5% Haste) earing, in case it makes a difference.

    Thanks.

Latene effect kicks in when you have a certain amount of HP left. I think it's when your HP turns yellow.

Why would it be for the subjobs? -.0? That's... odd. And for what ungodly reason would anyone ever sub DRG? lol

Actually, it's have either that as the main or subjob as the latent requirement.

So I guess only dragoons are lucky enough to recieve some delicious +5% haste earrings, and bst are similarly lucky enough to get +5% accuracy.

Actually, I think it's ONLY subjob, not main. I'll test it later when I get out of Yhoator with my Axe Belt.

Edit: Actually, has been tested by Mithrankittycat

            The earrings are subjob onry.

              Well, thanks for the info...

Even though I must admit that when I first read ZQM's reply, I was sceptical to the validity of his claims.

ZQM, can you tell us what your claims are based on? Are you sure of the "subjob" association? If so, are you sure you got each earing matched with its correct subjob requirement?

Where did this information come from? I have not seen any documention in the game mentioning the subjob (when looking at the earings), and not sure anything official has been mentioned.

I think all the info is great, but it would be nice if you erased all doubt by posting your sources.

As for now, I am considering Mithrankittycat's claim which seems to be based on personal experience. This tells us that the /Theif is associated with the +2 DEX earing and does indeed ONLY work with thief as a subjob.

And thus ZQM's post seems to be valid, but not too sure if all earings are shown next to thier proper subjob. ZQM, if you can tell us how you arrived to your conclusions, you would remove all doubt to your thread.

ZQM, I mean no disrespect. I actualy have your information saved on my desktop for reference. (just thought I would put this in there so that I don't sound like I am flaming... I am actualy very gratetful, just extra sceptical... hopefully it does not spell any misunderstandings)....

Anyways. Subjob as a Dragoon for a Monk... hmm. Actualy was one of my "just for fun" combinations!! Imagine someone collecting ki (Boost), then shooting a fireball, then jumping in the air (almost flying) and then fighting... Its my "just for fun" imitation of Son Guku... :p

Read the thread that I posted along with the quotes. Posts from that thread are how I put the pieces togeather.

Also, both earrings and belts are could be wrong. They're both from player's posts on this board, and putting 2 and 2 togeather (i.e. "Healer's Earring").

Remember the term Latent means "Present or potential that is not evident or active".

So by the term the obvious thing you can determine is it has to be something either asscoitated to a job (Like THFs are known to have DEX) but is not active (a /THF gets some DEX bonus but nothing like when it's Main, so the in effect their DEX status is latent). In a way you could say these items are Sub JSE sort of like the JSE.

The items that activate by low HP and other kind of triggers are latent effects tied to the item itself (Items with a "soul" of it's own, awakens in critical conditions).

The use of Latent Effect in this game is very broad so you can't really assume anything to an item being bound to 1 rule when it says Latent Effect.

                  EDIT:

Another thing that comes to mind with the Latent Effect is a MUD is use to play. They had special gear that alone had nice stats but when they set is equipped they give you even more power. One of the sets that one had was called something like "Celestial Guardian Set" when you equipped the entire set you would get an insaine boost in your defense, you became almost invincible.

Seperate though that gear gave relating to FFXI would be something like 1 Defense each piece, and when all equipped would trigger it's special effect and give you around 200 defense. This is something that could be a possibility to come with some Latent Effect gear. Doubt it'll be exact to what I state but will possibly be Latent Effects that trigger only when certain other gear is equipped.

Cheezy Test Result (I am nerdier than 96% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!)

                    Modnar,

The Magician's Earring, the Pilferer's Earring, and the Great Axe Belt have been tested by players, and for sure work on when their specific job is subbed.. The rest of the info is educated guesses based on the names of the items pretty much.

If someone has the gil and resources to get all of the items, and test 'em, that's great.

Please, if you get a piece of this gear, post your findings with it, if they can be proven. IE: Skill effects/HP/MP/Stats.

for the record, these are the ones that people have tested/proved

                      Ashigaru Earring = Parrying skill +5 = /SAM
                      Wizard's Earring = Elemental magic skill +5 = /BLM
                      Genin Earring = AGI +4 = /NIN
                      Pilferer's Earring = DEX +2 = /THF
                      Mercenary's Earring = VIT +2 = /WAR

                      Axe Belt : Great Axe skill +5 | /War

I have tested the killer earring and the scythe belt.

Both work with DRK subbed, but not as main.

Nice how many of those items are completely worthless. No one gimps their sub for 5% haste or 5 accuracy or 5 ATK. At this stage of the game I just don't understand releasing items with no merit to them.

They are probably to encourage people to not play only one set of job combinations.

If they manage to make these kind of items good enough to balance out the best benefits from certain job combos, we might see a bigger variety of job combinations which don't suck.
