What you guys are saying is pretty funny for me, because as a BRD I log on, put party flag up, and hardly get invites (it could be because I have "JE" flagging but hardly any of the high level players mind it when the party starts). Rough estimate, from level 40-50 I've received 2 or 3 invites, usually after I've been chilling or farming for a few hours. Other times I can sit it town for hours and get nothing. So, I create around 95% of the parties :\

Exactly the same for me. Whenever I don't feel like making a party, it usually takes me a while to get an invite. Then again since I always party with my brother, a BLM, it usually suits me more to make parties.

Back to the original post... I really haven't notice that many bards. My LS is a medium sized one (35ish people and none of them are childish morons :p), and the job ratio is somewhere around...

20% WHM
29% Tank
30% Damage
15% RDM and BLM
6% Other (2x BRD, 0 BST, 0 SMN)

Or simply can't get into a PT at all, many days (and yes, that's with FFXI running all day, routinely doing searches, contacting PT leaders, trying to form PTs, and etc.)
