Also, if you time it right, you can use sneak+trick while the monster is being pulled, and hit the monster having to wait only 10 seconds to pull it off a second time ^^

14 blm? your obviously a mage. Gear is a small part of damage. damage comes from skill wielding a particular weapon, and a jobs abilities (how well they are used).Originally posted by Burzum
And if you want to REALLY get down to it.... in the end the job that is really going to count is the job that can do the most damage to HNM fights.... for where does the best gear in the game come from ? Anyone can exp grind.... but once ppl start to cap out at 70 (75) exp isn't going to matter... it's going to be all about the GEAR!!! SO what job is going to be recruited as damage dealer when ppl want to take down the big shit? The highest damage dealers to HNM..... SO do all the when in exp 2 min fights I can do this....all you want... in the end it's I can do this much damage after whacking for 30 minuties on this super uber boss mob that drops all the uber lewts.... And after that let's look at the gear of damage dealer class A vs. damage dealer class B and then look to see who is doing more damage in an exp group... when damage dealer B is in JSE or AF armor/weapons and damage deal A is in full HNM mob gear..............
Basically in the end Gear will make damage... so if you can't get the HNM gear your going to fall behind those that do.... and then it won't matter what class skills you have.
and HNM is NOT the important thing here. thats not a normal situation. A normal situation is in an experience PT. just making sure we're all on the same page.

Faded... I think you missing the point here... you only exp till your max lvl.... then what most ppl refer to as the end game begins getting to lvl 70 is just the beginning of your character... as stated in the upcoming patches/expansions Square is going to be developing a more end game type enviorment... Limbo, more than 18 ppl alliances, etc.... At which point your gear... + Accuracy, + Attack, + Dex, + etc.... are what is going to determine how effective you are hitting lvl 100 mobs when lvl cap is 75.... This is where GEAR! is going to make the difference... so other than lvling up sub's which most already high lvl ppl have. Exping will become non-existant... Only gil farming for guilding or.... killing time lvling up another job waiting for a HNM timer to reset so your LS can make a run at it... is what ppl will eventully do... ATM the high lvl community is small, but I would say at least 50% of NA players are going to be 60+ by late spring, or early summer... if not sooner... so it's going to get crowded at the high lvl spectrum... Yes I am new to FFXI... No I am not new to MMORPG's this is the eventuallity of all games... thus why games need expansions, patches, new content (time sinks)... etc... And even Mages are going to need GEAR!... I'm sure sooner or later there's going to be gear that makes Blk mages able to get less resists, Whm's heal for less mana or more hps or less hate... And these effects will be the difference in an easy win and a I can't believe we won battle...
As this game matures the difference between characters will eventually become gear rather than lvl... for to keep ppl captivated more high end content will need to be implemented and not everyone will be able to participate.... the longer this goes on the larger the gap will become... I hope to eventually be on the higher end of the stick...
I wish to see you there
BTW: if you check my Sig
The beginning of my character is going to be mage... not the end

What makes you think you'll even make it to the high end game. I would say 80% of people that play don't make it that far.Originally posted by Burzum

The normal, everyday scenario is Exp PT's.
PLUS monk are pretty useless I'm told on HNM anyways. everyone but thief and blm are really. And what your going to be means nothing to anyone as compared to what you ARE right now.63 dragoon , 31 white mage, 30 warrior, 13 monk, 10 samurai, 5 thief.

Wow pretty short sighted.... and at lvl 49 your going to tell me that your an expert at the end game? I think I pretty clearly stated that it would be an eventuality.... not the current state of the game.... but seeing how most ppl that I have met that stated at release are already nearing lvl 30 I don't think it would be unreasonable to think lvl 60+ would be hard for most ppl to attain by summer.
And I have to hit the lvl cap someday
..... so what else other than lvling other jobs would there be for me to do? Plz don't judge me... as I think I've tried very hard to remain objective in my statements and not directed at any individual.... but you seem to be very focused on my #'s for some reason.... rather than addressing general issues.... with very matter of fact answers... and personal attacks... for I have never stated that I have participated in the end game for FFXI... only that there are certain tendencies in all games that will unfortuantely steer almost all games toward an eventual direction... now FFXI accomplishes this I do not know at this point but with the given information atm... it appears to be following a similar pattern sharded by previous MMORGP's.

A little off topic but anyway, I still agree with Fadedsoul that most daily gameplay is exping party, farming pt(NM, loots), or mission/questing party. Yes even when you are lv70.
HNM hunting is just something which some people do. So if we are talking about damage dealor order, it would be a lot better to consider the normal situation.
There are tons of stuffs that lv70 ppl have been doing other than HNM hunting.... (70BC feiyin, 7 bones event, zilart mission, normal mission, NM farming, ingredient farming, and yes lving up other jobs).
I am not an expert at the end game, but I know some, I experienced it. I had lv67 thf. I killed HNMs if you care.
About the dmg order, I wouldn't put mine, but I would say I don't like drk and monk for some reasons (personally).
Monk.. I don't know but everytime i pt with em, I missed ranger, drg, or even some good wars =/
drk.. maybe i was a thf and drk's guilotine doesn't connect with thf... I heard that they go very well with war though.
and for whoever saying thf sucks doing big dmg once a minute, check this thread out > http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/sho...threadid=26524 and see what all the pro said : p
Am I a thf lover? yes i am.. of course always am.. but me love ranger more.. muahah (rich ones).Jeeb the Dancing Thf~

THF can speed up killing a LOT as soon as the reach level 30.
A party without THFs kills slow... that's the fact im facing. I was in a group of PLD DRK RNG and we kill super slow... the HGE damage from sneak+trick+viper is un-replaceable.
Rangers will start to do insane damage once they got sidewinder. Before that, you pretty much need THF to kill anything at a decent paceThere are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

Ugh, I just got myself to 30, and te job just got a lot more complicated. I can do yokodamas flawlessly IF the tank does not move. The problem is saving up tp, making sure the recharge time for sneak is done, making sure the rescharge time for trick is done, sometimes making sure berserk is on, and at the same time, doing that in a renkei. Before, I just use sneak whenever I have it, and whenever I'm in the back of an enemy, now I gotta have all these checks and balances to do 200 dmg >.<Originally posted by Jei

This topic is going nowhere, people has just based on their own views. I had mentioned melee class such as mnk, drg, war, sam are about the same. But yet people only take normal lvling pt as considersation. NM/ HNM hunting is not a normal thing? Well, some people in my server are doing their normal thing everday> hunting HNM. So if u wanna consider normal lvlling PT, then a BST with a strong pet can do more damage than drg, drk, .... why isn't bst in the high ranks. if u are fighting bones for lvlling, then i would say mnk will do more damages. if u are fighting wyverns, then drg will be strong.
on the topic on why i say drg, war and sam with spear or lance, makes no difference, cos the thf will probably pwn the mob and these 3 class, whichever, does not matter. This is my opinion and what i feel during my normal lvlling PT.
Someone mention MNK not useful in HNM fights. well, some HNM requires u to attack from far rather then go near and get hit by status effects. MNK can 'charge' a few times and shoots a fireball. MNK dun need TP in this case. Its damage is more than thf's fuidama WS and drk's gullitine.
There are so many types of enemy/ mob in ff11. How can u based damage on just the normal thing > PT lvlling. As someone said, other normal thing are BCNM, farming PT (NM) .... etc. (BTW, some NM are harder than HNM), how can u be so sure that mnk is not useful for these?Weaver:98.1 (+2 & mog:weaver) Blacksmith:57 Goldsmith:55 Tanner: 59

One reason normal leveling is considered is because I would wager that 95% of all fighting ever done in the game is leveling. How many people do you really think are going to hit the level cap? How many people do you think have one thousand hours of their lives to get to those high levels (give or take of course)? Not many. I have not much to contribute on which is stronger since I'm only a 25 dragoon (because I love dragons) but I bet you most people reading this will never get to those insane levels so it IS important to consider the rungs of "end game" ladder into this equation. I'm willing to bet that most people at level 70 will forever have spent more time getting to level 70 than they will at level 70.
My point is simply that HNM fights or whatever are only a small fraction of what lvl 60s+ do OVERALL and a considerable tinier fraction of what the majority of players will ever do. I'm not discounting the ever-evolving "end game" at all, since I hope to one day reach it, but I do think it comes second to what undeniably is what most time is spent on in the game, which is leveling.
