  • Be nice to WMs :(

Posted in the general jobs forum since I thought it would be preaching to the choir if I posted in WM forums.

So first off, raise requests. I seriously don't mind raising people as long as they're in my area or less than 10 minutes away. However, there's two things I can't stand: people who respawn after asking me to come or don't even bother to thank me. It's not fun walking 10 minutes through aggro land for nothing or being unappreciated for setting your PT back some progress. So, if a WM says they're going to come raise your friend, tell them to be patient.

Now, people who lot on every item they see just because it's good money. I don't play WM for the sheer joy of it - it's the most tedious class in the game where using your only attack spells is a waste of mana. I don't enjoy having the least HP and defense in my group, and I don't enjoy being killed quickly lv30+. The only thing we do is rest, get up, heal people when nescessary, rest again. I don't want to be a lowbie forever and be unable to do any of the cool missions because my group can never find a WM as do most of the WMs out there. I'm giving up my ability to participate in the combat and solo effectively passed 30, so I was hoping that people would be kind enough to let us get items we normally can't get alone. For example, I spent 12 hours the other day in Qufim, helping some lower-levels gain some exp while helping me kill acrophies for the Carbuncle Gem. We finally got the gem and an elvaan warrior lotted on it and took it just because he was "thinking of going summoner," even though I expressed quite boldly that I was going for the item. He could have easily went to Valkurm and slayed leech after leech without resting, but I'm not able to even do that. If an WM needs an item - let them have it. We're poor enough with high spell and mage-gear costs as it is.

Finally, avid shouters. In a group of provokers, I ask them to provoke for one another to share damage. This lets the WM rest longer for better mana regen as well as not having to get the hate from casting cures on a guy who has the hate. We want the team to live just as much as you do, so don't think the WM is simply not curing you for the fun of it. This also goes for the people who say "You still had 50 mana and you ran away!" after I cast benediction. Again, white mages truly aren't interested in seeing their whole team die.

I don't have the game yet but your right people should let WMG loot the most. I plan on being a monk or war until I get DRG. Once I get to be a high level DRG I plan to help new people get money/items/jobs especially WMGs.

what about the WHMs that bitch and act like they own the pt? I've met a good amount of WHMs like this on Midgardsormr. They complain that the melee don't do enough, we should go for weaker monsters, ect...

Well of course the ones that bitch should be taken into a place where there is no chance that they can survive then booted from the party.

Ugg.. In EQOA tanks had aligit complaint to claim loot due to horrendus repair costs of armor... In FFXI I really thing it's pretty darn even til uou get to advanced jobs (sepc. ninja and ranger). It's BS that you got the carbgunclue ruby swiped as you had expressed that was the reason you were their. However I will still put a tanks armor costs atainst a mages spell costs anyday... Case and point go lookup the price of chainmail armor at level 24...and it just gets worse. I'm in the middle of a multi day farm trying to upgrade my armor...haven't XPed in days ..just farmin and fishin'
Basicallly there are good and bad players of every class. I've always been a tank in MMO's and I always try to take care of my mage. I know there are lousy tanks/off. casters/melees...whatevah...guess what there are also some prety lousy mages out there. (my personal fave being the wait till the MT has 100 HP left to cast cure when fighing an IT...idn't want to waiste any of the cure HP recovered =/). Not that I want less whms out there but perhapse it just aint for you...beauty fo FFXI is you can change at a moments notice =)

I've heard that in Mhaura, you can buy chainmail for 4k a piece. In Jeuno, the spells on auction are barely any more expensive than the vendors. Almost all of the decent mage armor is a quest item that requires fame.

Here's a listing of the items I saw for lv20-30:
            Eremite's Club: 10k
New head and body armor: ~18k
            Light Soleas: 2k
            Scentless armlets: 1k
            Pants: ~8k

            lv20 Sneak: 1k
            lv21 Cure III: 5k
            lv21 Regen: 5k
            Lv25 Invis: ~5k
            lv25 Raise: 7k
            lv27 Protectra II: 8k
            lv28 Stoneskin: 9k
            lv30 Cursna: 8k

These are just the spells worthwhile, the rest are nifty, but are very expensive and not as useful. Most WM's don't buy these spells. The price is: 87k.

Full suit of chainmail from Mhaura: ~20k
            New weapon: 20k

            End price: 40k

Don't forget that with a mage main, you'll probably have a mage sub, which means extra scrolls for every useful one. Melee subs are free of charge.

You can generally sell armour and weapons back on the auction for the same price that you purchased it for. You can't unlearn and sell back spells that become too weak to use. whm and blm spells can become very costly, and from what I've seen from 1-30 they generally have much less gil than the melee classes.

When a WHM bitches a little too much for my liking, my provoke suddenly developes a infinate recast time.

There has actually been a few times too many I have been in parties where the group ends up for lack of a better word, _turning_ on the whm/blm mage. Too many times u will see cocky whm demanding things here in there that do _not_ benefit the party as a whole and only cause frustration even after the party expresses their doubts. It starts with tells back and fourth between the tanks and pullers then resulting in dead mages.

No one wants a cocky mage, war, and etc.. If you think you run/own the party lol I hope I get to be that one that does you in.

Whms ( and any mages) are much more expensive to keep up to date than most melee types . We dont have as much armor or weapons to buy , but we still need to upgrade sometime . And spells arent something you can sell back like armor which you generally can either break even or make a profit selling back .

From what i have seen which is only 1-30 I completely disagree as equipment become way too expensive for me now. Many mages at my lvl(29) are wearing lvl 5-10 gear, Why do they not upgrade, obviosuly because they dont need. Some of the spells you can purchase at shops for 1/3 of the amount they are at the AH(early spells) at lvl 24 I had to spent 40k for upgrades. If you think I can make a profit off my gear lol no not at all. I keep my gear, I plan to use other classes which will in turn need to lvl up from lvl 1 as well.

The turnaround from not being a mage is too far to be any real benefactor right now. It will most likely be months before I really reap the benefits. Oh and those lvls for 87k are very far apart. lvl 24 was 40k for me lvl 30 which is my next _affordable_ upgrade will be more I can only assume. Those early lvls for a mage were a joke too.

mages got it cheap in the beginnin, the spells are not that much and melee and mage will have to cough up the same for thier stuff...chain set(it's not in Mhura) is 30k, which is about 3/4 your spells. Our weapons very from 10k-20k which makes us just as expensive, and don't get me started on if you are a NIN, DRK, RNG, or PLD, we all pay out a lot of money!

THose high lvl spells are easy to get the money for cause you are a high lvl, you have more ways to get money. At a low lvl, we all have it hard...
