  • Elvaans and Mithras.

    Hello,
    At the moment, I have an Elvaan Warrior, and am planning on being a Paladin. (So far, in my experiences in being a 1-Hander Warrior, I'm really looking forward to being the same with the Paladin.) At some point in my play through, I'm thinking of creating a Mithra character. Here are some reasons why I am;

    - Elvaans and Mithras are in the opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of Dexterity and Agility. (Elvaans being the worst, and Mithras being the best.)

    - Thieves are my favourite class in all of Final Fantasy. Why did I pick being an Elvaan? Actually, I don't remember the reason, but I might as well keep him anyway.

    - Playing for another country. I'm definately going to pick another country for the mithra, other than San D'Oria. I'll probably not be able to explore all the way to Windurst, so I might get to see new stuff, and get to experience how players level in that area.

    - I personally hate being a Mage, so that rules out being a Tarutaru. (I've already decided in my mind that Elvaan > Galka/Hume. ) I'm not really sure why; whether its because of fragility, or just plain how they play, I was never into any kind of mages in any RPG games. Mithras also have significantly higher INT than Elvaan, and some more MP, so I guess I can turn the mithra into a mage if I get bored enough, and still be somewhat effective, I guess.

Anywho, my question now is; will those extra Agility and Dexterity point difference from being an Elvaan and Mithra be that significant, for a Thief? (Specifically, Thief/Warrior, Thief/Ninja, and Thief/Ranger.)

    Thank you.

The extra Dexterity you'd get as a Mithra Thief vs. an Elvaan Thief are very important at higher levels. Elvaan make horrible thieves. For thieves, Dexterity determines much of their damage, and Agility determines their ability to dodge attacks. Since a thief's primary method of avoiding damage is dodging, you'll see that Elvaan thieves will get hit a lot more in combat than Mithra thieves will.

By all means, if you hate playing mage, avoid Tarutaru like the plague. Strangely enough, however, my WHM50/RDM21 Taru mage in the beta ended up being pretty good at avoiding damage. In general, however, most mages ARE pretty fragile. But they get a lot of really cool tricks that non-mages don't have, too.

Mithra are so-so spellcasters.. about as good as Hume, overall. They're not terribly effective at damage-dealing in straight combat, however, so they make for subpar warriors, dark knights, etc.

Thanks for the reply. Really looking forward to making a Mithra in the future, but for now, I really need to go back working on my poor Elvaan.

If anyone else would like to add anything else, please do so.

Well a thief doesn't get hit PERIOD, since the hate will be put on the tank by your sideways decieving attack.

Elvaans don't make "horrible" thieves, but they will never compare to a Mithra.

        nyaa!
I really should thank you for it afterall it was your life that taught me the purpose of all life.....Purpose of life, is to end.

        I hate my life.

mithra over elvaan for thieves, but i cant think of much other jobs they excel better than. I know elvaan have the worst dex, but honestly, my elvaan warrior barely misses and he gets some good critical hits in there (i never know why galka have more agility than elvaan, i just dont know why) but i remember playing with a mithra and she barely avoided hits, and with their hp she wasnt able to last long (i did more dmg than her as well). I am not saying mithra sucks, im just saying elvaan are better than people say they are.

            hmm

I need to stop asking this question but I guess I need re-assurance : Would a Hume Thf/Nin do alright? Would I ever be able to compare to a Mithra? Or should I go Nin/War?

You get some nice abilities such as dual-wielding daggers, the stealthy trait, more dex/agi and ninjitsu is about what it amounts to. I think it would be a great compliment to Thf.

Mithra make pretty good thieves and rangers. They make bad bards and beast tamers, and sub-par warriors and paladins. They're okay at everything else.
