  • RDM Pulling with Enfeeble Spells

What do you guys think of this?

Aside from using a ranged attack to pull an enemy, how about casting Paralyze, Blind, or Slow (or even Silence against casters) on it?

It would help a bit for those in the party who cast enfeebs first before dishing out damage. The warriors could always provoke as it comes near the camp.

The only problem I have with this is that usually when the provoker/ranged attacker pulls enemies, we casters would be healing to regain MP.

Otherwise, I think it's a good idea especially if battles go by fairly quickly before the spell effect would run out.

Anyone who is able to pull without getting damaged is fine. Only problem with RDM pulling is that they cannot rest or they rest and then they go pull which makes things very slow. When I was around level 25, we had a RDM who decided to pull and he was using Gravity to aggro the monster. Incase you don't know, Gravity is a spell that slow down the monster running speed so he was able to pull the monster without getting attacked which was nice. But the best pullers are alway Theifs, Rangers because they can see monsters on their Radar/Map and they can use ranged weapons. Ninja can also be good puller because Utsemi allow them to get attacked without taking damage.

RDM pulling with debuffs is not the best really, it means they already have hate stacked with them. Plus they are less likely to survive a bad pull.

A good puller has to be THF or RNG, they have the best skills to get out of a bad pull, plus they don't serve any use really being back at the group. You want your mages and meat shields at the group, where they can deal with any bad respawns or leftovers from other groups.

THF or RNG don't serve for anything? Is this a joke??

They don't serve for anything being back at the group. IE, they don't have to rest or get ready to target and provoke. Next time try finishing the sentence

            Hehe thanks Atma,

THF are great pullers because they can easily get out of bad pulls!

RNG are awesome pullers because there is nothing better when they bring a mob back with up to half it's HP gone!

However, both classes do not need to sit at the main group during downtime as they do not need to rest nor are they useful enough to hold a mob if you have a problem.

Nothing worse when your main tank is pulling and you get a bad respawn or something gets dragged on you.

One thing early on about pulling using mp, is that the person would have to sit and restore his/her mp after awhile. With Drk, they can only Aspir certain things to get mp. But that changes with Brds "mages Ballad" and Rdm's "Refresh".

One thing about ballad is that it has an area of effect, to any member in the range. So it cannot be casted onto a "melee" to regen mp during battle, and the puller may need to wait after battle to get his mp refresh song. If trying to get chains (when exping.. you almost always are..), the puller doesn't have time to wait for a song and then run off to find another monster.

              This is why I have come to LOVE Rdm's and refresh ^_^;

If you set it up right, you can position yourself to get ballad during the fight without the other fighters getting it. I've done this lots of times if I'm running low on mp and can't get refresh. Of course you'll also lose one of your melee songs by doing this, so getting refresh is still better

stun makes drk a good puller if there are no linking monsters ^^ stun is my favorite spell.

                      It depends on the monster.

Never use it on bats - they resist 100%.

Some monsters usually hit even while blind - it's mostly a waste of time on them.

But on slow attacking, relatively low accuracy, hard hitting monsters like pugils and scorpions, blind can be a lifesaver. It not only reduces their regular damage output, but also hinders their TP gain. If blinding the monster makes it miss ONCE when it would have hit, then you've saved more than the mp cost of blind (it's cheaper than Cure I!). If it keeps the monster from getting TP before you kill it (or gets it one less time), you've probably saved 50+ mp of heals for a 5 mp enfeeble.

I generally wouldn't pull with spells though - someone should be pulling before you are even finished resting, usually. Unless your group doesn't have a THF, RNG or NIN and the WAR doesn't have a ranged weapon. Pulling is generally the responsibility of a 0-mp job for a reason - the whole point of pulling instead of roaming is to let the party sit for MP while the puller brings the monster back.

I typically liked pulling in Crawler Nest with Gravity due to the cave layouts I could get back to the team with plenty of time for the mages to rest up and some of us as it got close to pump it full of Debuffs before it ever got a single hit off, or even got to the team.
With grav pulling I almost never got hit cause by the time the mob got to us our tank would be standing far ahead to hit it as it passed to get to me or hed voke it
I typically dont pull though, I prefer to use gravity as an escape spell has saved my entire PTs life in kazahm numerous times gives ya a chance to run for your lives lol

Heh, yeah gravity is fun to use.

I was in Yhoator Jungle as a RDM/BLM pulling mandragoras with gravity, then popping a paralyze and slow on it, then letting hit me so I can cast drain on it (and raise my Dark Magic), then run to the camp and watch it walk slowly into its doom.
