man, i wanted to reply to some of your posts but i didnt feel like registering
I dont get their agrument, though. Who lots inbetween fights when everything is caotic(?sp). Dont know about you guys but lotting gives me something to do when the PT has idol time. Like when the mages run out of MP and we need to stop for a sec. And the spam...yeah, thats another gay ass argument, lol. Yeah, i could see how it would be annoying if someone is explaining something to the PT and all of a sudden a bunch of "Raion lotted 600" or what ever it says pop up. But again, who's going to lot when someone is explaining something. Yeah, there are idiots that do lot at the worst time, but chanses are they are a noob, just tell them dont lot until theres idol time.
But my point, im all for lotting.

i certainly don't see the big problem with lotting. In fact, FFXI has a very good idea for their loot system compared to other mmorpg's. Lotting takes away power from the ninja looters and whatnot, and if someone "really" needs an item, more than usual, the pt is understanding and gives it to them. What i mean by "needs" an item, is if it something like the kaz keys, or carbuncle stone or something like that. I don't mean a good drop that they "need" to sell and make money.

Lotting in ffxi is perfectly alright with me. I don't know why the Americans make such a big problem over nothing. I've never ever ever ever once in all my playing time, seen a JP pt argue about lotting.

I tell ya it's the society that raises us.... too capitalistic and all. People don't wanna others to lot, not because it spams up things, not because it takes a while, but basically because they don't want the OTHERS to get the item that THEY want. I mean, why would you wanna see other people prosper when you urself should be prosperous first? It's pretty simple, the MMORPG when introduced to the NA society totally gets competitive way more than it is cooperative.

That's why i hardly do random pts, and most of the time level with my set pts. I've had enough grief from games such as EQ, SB, DAOC and the like...

      that's my 2 gil.

.... oh and one thing i forgot to mention. What i sometimes do (and believe me it works well) is that i suggest to the PT (random) before we start that when we finish we split up the amount of crystals that we earned, or something like that. In other types of PT's (sets, LS, friends) we could give a damn about who gets what, as we are in it to help each other out. I for one would not like to see my other PT members all gimped out, while i become more uber.

      bah, another 2 gil.

When people in my parties tell me to not lot I just figure its harmless. I don't really mind, because I usually forget to lot anyways. There is one major drawback; if someone has a full inventory then the items are lost. Thus making this system rather pointless. Next time, if its my party, I'm gonna straight up say no.

Well, from what I hear, many NA's mass chain ‚¨‚Ȃ‚æ and ‚‚æ at low levels and think it's mad good exp

I suppose if you waste your time like this then yeah you prolly won't have enough time between fights to lot

I recently got in a pt and was kicked for "lotting". It was a pick up pt cause the ppl i usually pt with werent logged. I kinda laughed at the fact that they'd do something like that considering i was the ONLY PLD tank around at the time. Guess warrior makes a better tank.

Forgot who posted but they're right.. every american based MMORPG is set around competition instead of party play. FFXI is the only MMORPG that is strictly for cooperation.

I don't like the "no lotting" rule and do infact lot in every party whether they like it or not.. its apart of the game. Whether they kick me is up to them.. but ive forced groups to start lotting just so I wouldn't get all the items. I really don't think thats bad.. asking ppl to not lot can be just as bad as you watch the good items be thrown away cause moron doesn't know how to sort their inventory.

                I'm dead serious.

Lotting is the most retarded thing to do in a group. Just because the "JP" do it, doesn't mean it's the best way.

We are the MMORPG professionals. Watch and see how we will dominate the game come later levels. JP know the game, of course, it's been out a year, but they still aren't very good at it.
Ok.. this has got to be the most stupid thing i have ever read. Why even argue.

Yeah you're right, new players shouldn't be allowed to make rules for their parties. Every party should be led by an importer and we should all bow do to their greatness and wisdom.

Awntawn's first reply, snideness aside, was a very good explanation why no-lotting can be a bad idea. I am converted, though I still don't see why bother if the loot is crap. But blatantly disregarding the rules of the party by lotting when they say not to is immature and obnoxious. Explain to them how items can be lost and, you know, maybe they'll listen. This board has a wealth of great information, but an equal wealth of holier-than-thou importers. Get over yourselves.

When I'm not duoing/trioing(95% of my game time) in PTs I'm leading, we have near-constant pulls, and most of the time if someone is doing their job, they shouldn't have time to lot for items. if someone wants a specific item, they're welcome to it, but I'll kick people that lot of every single junk item, but then again, I'm used to dealing with just partying with my friends where we share everything anyway, so other people might care more about their loot.

of course, this is one of the reason I almost only Duo/Trio. It's a vicious cycle.

I'm sorry, but I think the point has been made clearly:

If you want it, loot on it.

If you don't want it, then pass/don't lot.

I avoid all this NA n00b ness by trying to educate them and also by putting my PTs together myself. I have yet to join a NA PT by an /invite, as I've yet to find a PT leader who isn't trying to form an alliance to kill pugils on the beach because you get better EXP.

Perhaps us 'high and mighty' importers might not be so critical about the NA players and their attitudes if they actually took a minute to read up on the game, and at least listen to advice from experienced players.

I'm not flaming anyone. I'm just saying the importers are here to help, but when you're met with 'shut the F up I'll ownzer you' when trying to inform someone about something; or you're met by 'naw i just swing my sword and kill shit' when trying to show someone about Macros, the NA attitude gets old pretty quick.

As for rolling, I roll every time; only found one person who didn't like it, and after he saw we all rolled, he rolled too.

I don't think it's a big deal, if you don't want to loot for items, don't.

                          I pass when i don't want something.

My vote for the poll: Roll for loot
