Someone hit me up please playonline ID is DJ-Syn xbox live is DJ Synr Id even give you my phone number if you contact me. I just bought the game today. and the keyboard controls are fruitier then Richard Simmons sweating to the oldies.
I was under the impression the trigger buttons aren't configurable for FFXI.

XBox 360 Wirless Controller working perfectly:

    Previous tries:
Xpadder - having some problems with arrow keys mappings stepping on camera movements, macro pallets were slow
XBCD - no good for wireless

How I got it to work:
    1) I first installed the Microsoft XBox 360 Accessories Software from here:
    - Download Gaming Software
    - Note: This is not really necessary but allows your computer to recognize accessory add ons like play and charge kit.

    2) Then I downloaded the "English version of XBOX360 wireless controller" driver from here:

    3) Then to install go to device manager:
    - Note: Following instructions are assuming you installed accessory pack; if not, steps will be similar but not same.
    - There should be a section called "XBox 360 Peripherals"
    - There should only be one device listed below if you don't have anything plugged in besides wireless receiver and controller on (I believe it is something like XBox 360 Wireless Controller or Receiver).
    - Select this and choose to update the driver.
    - Select the driver from the location you installed it at.
    - Note: If this is not detailed enough, check out the readme that resides in the directory the driver is in.

    4) Configure the controller:
    - Control Panel -> Game Controllers -> Select Controller -> Go into Properties
    - Play around in the Settings Profile to test it (see that triggers are mapped to buttons and force feedback works)
    - Go to the Directional Pad tab and change the Pad function to Slider 1 / Slider 2 (this solves d pad config problems in the ffxi config)
    - Go to the Buttons tab and change the ring of light setting to what ever you want (something to indicate that the controller is on). I chose "Flash then stay lit 1." This will not tell you battery power of controller, but you can always plug in your play and charge kit and continue to play if you suspect the battery is low ^^
    - Adjust the force feedback if you'd like. Note the ffxi config will probably give you a really weak feedback vibration test but it worked great in game for me fighting buggards, etc.

    5) Go to FFXI config tool.
    - Map all your buttons.
    - I mapped everything the same as the XBOX 360 control scheme since that's what I usually play on.

    6) Everything should work.
    - This is not a perfect step-by-step work for all, but if you play around with it you can get it to work with these drivers. If you follow these steps, and you are using Windows XP you shouldn't have any problems.

Good Luck! Hope this solves all your problems, and if you know who wrote those drivers, tell her/him I said thanks!!

yes I use the windower but also with the xpadder you need to start up ffxi and then take out your battery, put xpadder to the front and then pop the battery in. With windower.net windower i just turn on my controller after i turn on my game and it works with xpadder instead of the battery trick

    Edgetheninja,

Whats your Xpadder settings look like, can you post some screen shoots.

Also do you need a 3rd party windowing program ? Becuase xpadder doesn't seem to work in FFXI with the official window mode on.

The only setting that seem to halfway work is setting the D-Pad to Z Axis / Z Rotation. Then the D-Pad works seperate from the Movement and only moves Camera. But the problem is it only moves Left and Down, (NO) Up or Right.
I believe it is a vista problem with the drivers i have the same problem with x64 but in xp it works fine. I would suggest using xpadder and the default drivers like i do (xpadder can map keyboard keystrokes to the axis triggers with the default drivers)

you have to do that in the ffxi controller config, on the right hand side there is Movement Camera and Menu

use those drivers to make your triggers into buttons to beable to map in the ffxi controller config. You will have to go into Control Panel>Controllers and edit the buttons but that also allows you to map the guide button on the wireless 360 controller to a button. Also if you are using the wired 360 controllers there is a forum that has custom drivers for that too at

XBCD - XBox Controller Driver Forum

I used the JP driver for Vista 64 for a xbox360 wireless controller. I used the button config that Muskie had on the guide for FFXI Config.

I want to use the same exact settings as if playing on xbox360. I can get all the buttons working fine, but having trouble setting up the Movement and Menu controls.

The movement and menu seem to both be on the L-Stick and D-Pad. When I'm in game, moving with the L-Stick, the selection arrow that points down on your character keeps selecting/targeting anything in the direction I am moving.

Anyone figure out what settings you need to set, to have the L-Stick just on movement and D-Pad just on Menu and for selecting/targeting in game?

That is correct, it does not allow it to be used as a wired controller.

There's also multiple forum posts, and a few qood ones from the XNA boards, that expand on this and confirm that it can't be used to make your wireless controller a wired one.
