  • Zilart disc reinstallation issues

I've done a search on the forum and I can't find any answer to this, so I hope someone can help me.

Basically, I've been having some computer issues and I uninstalled FFXI and RoZ from my laptop last week. I've been trying to reinstall it and am facing a number of problems. First off, I inserted the original 3 discs, but got an error on disc 3 as a .dat file had not been uninstalled. This was a harddrive problem and upon doing a chkdsk it was deleted and the install continued as normal. I installed the 3 discs and the ROZ expansion disc. Then I faced a problem when downloading the FFXI update... 3 more .dat files were not uninstalled originally and I had to do a chkdsk again and once they were deleted the download and install continued.

The problem I have currently, which is still an issue, is that the game is not registering my RoZ expansion. When I put the disc in it does not error out and continues as if the pack has been installed. When I boot up FFXI it even downloads files specific to RoZ. However when I try to log into the game it tells me that expansion data has not been installed and I cannot enter any areas which need expansion data. I went to "add/remove" programs and the file size for my RoZ isn't listed - as if it is 0. I tried reinstalling RoZ from the CD, I tried uninstalling both FFXI and RoZ and reinstalling and that didn't work either. I also ran another chkdsk and it found nothing wrong.

I should probably note, I never uninstalled COP or ToAU from the computer, however it doesn't seem to have a problem with these expansions, just RoZ. I've installed FFXI on 3 machines since I've been playing and never had an issue before.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I remember reading someplace that the order of expansions absolutely MUST be:

    FFXI (core)
    RoZ
    CoP
    ToAU

You may need to uninstall and remove CoP and ToAU for Rise of the Zilart to install and operate correctly. Out of curiousity, what was the reasoning behind reinstallation of FFXI and RoZ but leaving CoP and ToAU intact?

I was having other issues with my computer and I tried uninstalling FFXI to see if it was pulling too many resources. I didn't understand I had to uninstall TOA and COP separately. My 3 initial FFXI CDs and my ROZ CD are in the same box, so I just put them all in and let them do their thing. I didn't know ROZ (being disc 4) was solely the RoZ expansion until later. I just put it in and boxes popped up and I clicked uninstall XD. I guess it was stupid looking back, but I just assumed that uninstalling the main FFXI would take all the expansions with it.

I have a second computer with FFXI on, so the install wasn't too much of an inconvenice to my playability, but I definitely prefer playing on my laptop. When I realised that my laptops many problems (<.<) weren't to do with FFXI, I was hoping to reinstall it on there.

Unfortunately it doesn't want to play nice

But thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to try it.
