  • FFXI crashing repeatedly

When I first got the game this never happend. Then it started happening, usually about once per day. I never really thought too much of it untill recently when it started to become more frequent. Here is the error I get when it crashes:

    http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/20/errorpu0.png

    My setup:

    512mb ram
athlon 64 3000+ (for some reason, a few months after I built the computer it started saying I had a 3200+)

    radeon 9600XT

Please help me, it rapid crashed 6 times in a row within seconds of starting today (btw if my exp party is reading this I apologise) .

    Re: FFXI crashing repeatedly

A full uninstall of FFXI, POL, and all exp packs.

Then reinstalling everything should fix it, i've gotten something like this before and this fixed it, but... its a B*tch to redo all those patchs...

    GL buddy

Edit: about the CPU thing, AMD CPUs, i think, are disigned to work better and faster with more ram, so if you upgraded it might be that, i dunno i recall something about the AMD 64 CPUs like that, my mind is really fuzzy right now.

It could be the recent errors that POL has been having swith Server stability to.
It's a known issue where you'll spend a lot of time in R0 then the game crashes with a pol error, or the game times out when receiving info from the servers.
But it looks like you have a registry error.

        3000+ = 1.8ghz
        3200+ =2.0ghz
Could run memory test 86 that would help rule out any memory problems
(you will have to boot from cd/flopy/usb memory stick ect...the test is done outside of windows.)

And you are thinking of is using 2 sticks of DDR or DDR2 memory for better performance.

Novalight: That sounds icky, think I'll try that last.

tazirai: it doesn't R0, the screen just turns black for a while (I can still hear the sound effects) then the error pos up.

Thrasher: Thanks I'll try that, oh and what did you mean by stating the clock speeds of a 3000+ and 3200+? Are you saying that overclocking could change the way the system identifies the chip or something?

              Re: FFXI crashing repeatedly

Did you change your bus speed or the multiplier of the CPU at any time? I've been overclocking my CPU (different make/model though), and a higher CPU frequency can require a higher vcore to prevent you from getting pol.exe errors. Or, in other words, if you did somehow bump your CPU frequency up, you may get fewer pol.exe errors if you drop the clock back down to it's factory settings.

That's odd, I don't remember overclocking my cpu. I hope my mobo isn't doing it automaticly again.

                  Re: FFXI crashing repeatedly

if your CPU is overclocked to an unstable setting, that would explain your constant crashes. double check your system bios

                    Re: FFXI crashing repeatedly

oh yeah *that* issue, its related to besiged isnt it? or something like that?

Luckly i havent have any problems as of yet... but i would say that my computer is highly customized in means of the OS, (not a normal windows under the hood). so what applies to me doesnt for others.

hmm, i'm the type that likes to know everything about computers, this error included... maybe using a program like ollydbg could be used to find what's at that address, but it would probibly be considerd hacking the client... I'm not sure... so i'm not gonna do it.

Maybe contacting SE tech support could help you out? It would take less time then reinstalling everything...

                    <offtopic>
AMD use a processor driver which allows for lowering the power needed and thus the speed of the CPU, you know on like laptops. Can desktop AMDs do that too?
                    </offtopic>

Edit: damn i gotta hit refresh more often...

yeah the desktop CPUs have cool and quiet too but disable it, it's crap (and could potential mis-flag you for speed hacking).

                      Thanks Yyg!

                        Yikes...

well acually im on a laptop, and sort of need that, luckly i dont play while not pluged in...

another side note... arent AMD processors sort of already overclocked before they leave the factory, i use to be into computers alot but i took a break and everyone else jumped into light speed...

Come to think of it, I believe I have cool n' quiet on. Could that be causing problems?

they only way i can think of disabling is uninstalling the drivers, they're in the "add remove programs" thingy, there has to be another way though, right?

Oh yeah it's easy to turn off, just change an option in the BIOS.
