Right now at 38 I don't think I could solo The Emissary.
Over-priced and expensive are not the same thing.

Unless you are a WHM or a BRD you can solo it most likely. But even if you couldn't, you could duo it with someone at your level or have one person a bit higher than you help you with it. Hell, it was able to be beaten in a duo at 25 before the cap was removed, so seriously, you'd be fine.

Yes, a lot of gear on the AH is priced high. But you don't actually NEED to buy it. You can subsist on a combination of Vendor Gear and Conquest Gear until you raise the funds for better armor/weapons. And you can always take time away from EXP in order to raise some gil in order to buy better gear.

Don't' assume that you need to have the absolute best. That was true at one time, but most people don't really care all that much. Plus, hell, there isn't that much mid-level gear on the AH these days anyway.

I'm pretty sure you can solo it. If not, hit me up. I just did that one recently for Windy, and am going to be doing it for Sandy later this week.

They're doing it wrong then. Getting to 90 is just a means of accessing content. EXP is easy, and I see little point in making it take longer. But again, I've leveled to the cap many times in the past, so I've done all of that enough to not need to draw it out again.

For a new player I wouldn't recommend racing. One, you'd be hard pressed to, and two, you would be missing out on a lot of exploration and learning in the process.

I was a brand new player, and I'm fine with how long it took. I got to see every part of Vana'diel while I was at it, and learned the how's and how not's of the game. I've seen a lot of new or returning players come through my shell. They level up real fast and then burn themselves out, quitting shortly thereafter.

It took me about a month and a half. It would have been faster, but I was leveling BLU, and also taking the time to do Missions and level my fame and such. That said, I had the benefit of years of experience behind me.

Of course, GoV didn't appear until I was already 60. If that had existed sooner...

A guy in our LS got there in 9 days. But yes, you'd need to have the proper resources and some prior knowledge or a lot of guidance. And be leveling something that required minimal effort.

A returning player with the proper resources could probably get 90 in a week. A true new player, however, would take significantly longer unless they stumbled into a good (bad?) situation.
