  • Ping between you and FFXI servers!

I'm thinking that as servers will be the same for the US version..i'm intrested to know if I will LAG!!!

So i've pinged my PC using the official DNS address of the FFXI server...

So, you have to open a DOS prompt and type:

    ping 61.195.48.209

Then you will obtain some ms values...u find the medium value and post it here to see how WELL are you distant from server....

I've obtained a 337ms.....(don't know if it's good or not)...

Who? What does it matters? Or...do you need a name to describe me? A definition by words is merely a means to deceive oneself. It's meaningless before the truth. What matters is how you perceive things. The slightest shift, then life and death no longer have any meaning.

I got 277... which is nice.

I'm on 256K aDSL so I expected something like that... I usually get 150 in Counter-Strike on good servers in the US, or ~50 in a specific server here in this country. Not only that, I share my connection with my brother and my dad... I think he's playing Starcraft right now... and my dad might be checking his email.

Not sure how the netcode in FFXI works since I haven't played it... but I'm sure it's not as demanding as an online FPS. 56k players with relatively higher pings than some of the rest of the people here won't have much to worry about.

Yeah..i was also sure that lower is better..but i dont know if 337 is right or it's too high....cos i'll connect from Europe....

I've traced it and...i can obtain this report:

Like I said before, you can't tell how bad a ping is until you try the game... not every game's netcode is the same.

For example, Counter-Strike handles netcode really well so slight variations in consistent connection can be "simulated" or calculated by your computer and/or the server so there's as little to no delay.

Rember, 337ms means it takes 337 milliseconds for information packets to go from the server to you, and viceversa. In a FPS you need to be really close to 0 seconds (which would mean no delay at all... perfect synchronization which is practically impossible) to enjoy the game. Counter-Strike plays best when you get below 200ms... which is why 150 plays like butter for me, though there are people with 60-70 pings on servers I go to.

The closer you are to a server, the better your ping. These are in japan, so you have to expect a bigger delay... which is why a jump of 150 to 277 is understandable to me.

Since FFXI isn't about reflexes in splitsecond time, there's no reason why the netcode will require very low pings. As long as you're below 600(which is over half a second) you'll be fine I believe.

Ohhh...you are an Importer..so if you don't lag....we can be quite sure that everyone with low hops and a value like yours will not lag...

I got 287ms, it hopped 4 times with no packet loss.
I live in Oregon. For some reason I get pretty good connections from here. I never suffer from lag.

                              I got 225ms.

When I first tried it, I didn't realize Kazaa was open, so I got 998ms. I was so confused.
