Hate to break it to ya, Jarre, but down here in Texas:
    1. purchase/consumption age = 21? Check.
    2. increased punishment for crime under the influence? Check.
    3. Cost? well, no...
    4. Purchase ban? Depends on where you are - can only buy beer and wine in supermarkets where I'm at...
    5. Continued immaturity and irresponsibility? Check.

Restricting alcohol causes as many problems as easy access does--cf. the American Prohibition.

Because like we all know, kids never have even a sip of beer until they are legally allowed to do so. I mean, we can't legally drink here until 21 years of age, so how could kids under 21 possible cause problems?

Hell, let's just up the drinking age to around 60 or so when people start getting too tired and old to drink anyway. That should completely eliminate the drinking "problems".

#2 is the best option; but really, if your current laws don't keep people from causing trouble, more penalties aren't going to help.

Do you really mean two-fold, or do you just mean double it?

We tried that already. It doesn't work so well.

Yes, because as we all know, 21 year olds never do anything stupid and are so much more intelligent and responsible.

Other countries that have the legal drinking age at 18 don't have the level of drunken idiot problems that the UK has. Upping it won't change anything.

What better way to deal with social problems than eliminating personal responsibility?

Theres a good reason i don't drink, and I'll tell you if you did teh job I used to, when you cut dead bodies out of cars thanks to an accident caused by a drunk driver, especially when its kids you are removing, it would put you off it for life.

I have a hard time to believe that. The manliest person I saw at FFFF06 wound up wearing his girlfriend's pink hoodie. Because it was too chilly for him.

We are not exactly a masculine bunch.
Nah, only the forum posters are the girly ones. Most of the actual players are chauvanistic ass hats.

Hell, I personally know plenty of "masculine" guys who play FFXI, two of whom are NYPD (p.s. I know your comment was facetious so don't get your panties in a wad )

Personally, I'm not much for drinking myself, but I'm sure there are plenty of other "geeks" out there who are pros at it. Hell, a Transformer News and Forum I frequently visit repeatedly wins bragging rights that they "Win at drinking" at the yearly official convention. Buncha drunkards they all are

If you don't like it straight, you don't like it. Girly drinks all have one thing in common, they add so much to hide the taste of the actual spirit in it. Drinks that don't exist to hide the taste of the base spirit are not girly drinks, and if you like them would not be terrible drinks.

I have no problem with alcohol and people that drink it, I just can't do it personally.

Mainly because if there is anything drinkable within arms reach, I will inhale it. I'm not kidding, I used to go through 64 oz. bottles of gatorade in a couple hours; if I have a glass of water near me it will be empty within minutes. When I go out, I tend to empty my glass one and a half times before the food is ready. Combine that with alcohol and I'd be blacked out inside two hours. Also, the smell of it is repulsive to me, but that's minor compared to the above.
