That's not boycotting, that's avoiding. You're not proving anything to anyone by being one person avoiding a site and telling other people "it doesn't matter."

All I gotta say is I'm very disappointed in FFXIwiki. And with their "we try to actively remove RMT ads" thing I thought they were one of the better FFXI fansites. Well SILLY ME. Apparently even that was a front since the head admin used 1.6k of that donation money to buy a freaking RELIC WEAPON.

Ok stop. Now seriously this is what happens when people don't read the full posts on bg and just read the jokes.

Divisor Theory, was shown to buy gil from the first post. Divisor Theory is a junior admin of wiki. He funded his relic with his credit card. Those are the truths.

DT, did not take any of the donated money. He had no access to the accounts. We poked fun at him saying he took the donations, but it was said many times over the course of the thread it was a joke. Please read and make sure you comprehend what is going on before you attempt to spread lies about the site. I don't care what camp I am in straight up lies will be called our.

to stress: DT purchased a relic weapon, but not with donation money.

Guess I won't be going to that site anymore. They can sit on my FFXI shitlist right next to Alla.

Well few things
1) Alla is not owned by the same group anymore.
2) Wiki has no RMT ties, and no purchased relic with donation money.

And even if he won't see this, I'd like to thank Taj for exposing the frauds. The truth hurts but you can't ignore it. And a lot of people are acting like the Zamites did when they found out their site was sold to IGE back when. It ranged from denial ("Zam is not IGE! Clearly it's called Zam!") to acceptance ("so what? I like this site, I don't care what the owners do. Shut up and like it!") What is it with FFXI fansites being owned by shady people??

1-> If you want to thank Taj, you can send him a PM on bg or post in the thread. Taj doesn't come here, I have talked to him in pms before, on bg.

2-> And the Zamites were in fact right alla did not change due to the fact of the buy out, but it was also a different situation.

3-> This is a fan site, who even owns it btw?

Thing is, my reasons for boycotting a company don't have to matter to anyone but me.

no one was cheated out of anything. if you have ever donated to anything before, red cross, jerry lewis md fund, you don't think they would just say "oh, we are stopping donations now cause we have our limit"? what happens if they find a cure for md? do you think they will be sending all the extra money back? or the red cross saying "here we don't need you blood, you can have it back"? That would never happen.

no but you can bet there would be a furor if a) they grossly misrepresented the amount going towards research or b) continued to solicit donations after MD had been cured while continuing to publicly state that it was still a threat.

It was never a matter of them hitting their limit. There were some major discrepancies between what was donated and what was reported as being needed. Any attempts to clarify those figures resulted in derision from the main individual involved. Be upset by it or don't care. That's your own choice. Personally, I never donated so it doesn't hit me as hard. If I had though, I'd be pissed. Therefore, I'm not begrudging the people that are.

In the end though this is all one giant mess and there is no right or wrong side to it.

Is Jei still banned from FFXI because he was using windower for Language plug in?
We've all heard stories about S-E's gustapo actions and how they've banned accounts without back up, not even allowing the banned to argue their case.

SE is allowed to ban people for any reason, without explanation. The FFXIWiki folks were within their rights to sell the site, but the way they went about it was shady.

Ya, SE is very upfront with that and everyone playing agreed to those terms.

I doubt the wiki was so forthcoming as to how they intended to use the donations with a statement 'we're going to make a wiki with blackjack and hookers, in fact, screw the wiki.'

All this is, is senseless bitching. the hacking was just childish and went to far to their personal accounts. the clopeidia didn't make ppl donate money. they did it on their own. from what I read, most of you didn't donate to them anyway.
the shadiness of his actions was on a personal basis with the mods. that meaning none of your business.
as far the extra money they had left from the donation drive, they can spend it however they like. look back to the first paragraph again.

I also know that deep down in everyone. you all have a price. he was offered his. I don't condone him for taking it.

I read the first post in BG. I haven't read most of this thread and only a third of the closed thread linked on page 1. I don't plan on reading any more. I'll just say this:
Fuck whatever they did. It doesn't matter. FFXIclopedia is the best organized MMO wiki I've seen.

Yes... Verizon lays people off all the time. That's business and it isn't even close to a valid comparison. If you have to make a corporate comparison think closer to Enron.

Regardless, the Wiki is still there and will continue to be there. Continue to use it if you want but understand that a lot of people don't be surprised if a lot of "us" don't want a damn thing to do with it anymore.
