Re: Special Task Force. Where art thou?

I just wanted to add a little update. I checked our friendly neighborhood popular but unnamed GS site just now to see how they were fairing in the light of the bannings that had their tank sitting at 0.....

    50mil available instantly.

So they've collected at least 50mil... If STFU hits them now, that's 50mil erased from Asuras economy and we're tanking badly enough as it is. I don't like seeing things go this low and I feel that GS has significant responsibility for the crappiness of our economies as they act as probably the largest Gilsink imaginable--wiping out millions of gil instantly when they get caught. I don't think we'll ever be rid of them--SE just doesn't have one of either the ability or the inclination to actually fix it. The half-@$$ job they seem to be doing appears to be having a significant, severe, and damaging effect on the economy.

I had posted some time ago in Ask SE Questions that they should institute economic buffers and adjustments so that NPC prices and rewards reflect the value and volume of currency on the server which would go a long way toward stabilizing the economy since they could use NPCs and things like "variable" rates on services to tug on the currency volume to keep it as they like. I hope that someone from SE actually takes an interest in this type of modification but I won't hold my breath on either that or the cessation of major gilseller activity... It irks me to see hordes of RMT... Not only do they damage the economy, but they are rabidly impolite in all of their activites--stealing mining points (b/c they're bots and don't know the difference), camping on top of existing parties (not disallowed, but very rude), MPKing sky/kings and then asking GMs to make sure no one hits them with the same medicine... just some of the things I've heard about and/or seen personally on Asura.

Dynamis needs to have a function such as a free dynamis pass when you beat shadowlord... or one of the CoP Dynamises/Dynamii (idk)... because as things stand, 1m twice a week is a hell of a lot of money, and there's a lot of shells out there right now - we have to be talking 40-50m a week MINIMUM on Pandy, I'd think closer to 150-200m but I'm not sure just how many LS's there are, plus sometimes people go farming for AF2 and currency with 18-20 people.

Most people just don't have any free gil right now, but parties are still insisting on the "uber" gear... but... it's just not achievable unless you play so much that your hands have A S D F H J K L on the fingertips...

Re: Special Task Force. Where art thou?

We have our share of gilsellers on Cerberus as well, but despite what others may say I do believe the GMs are doing what they can to deal with the problem.
Ignoring the problem would be unprofitable to SE. After all, they did make FFXI to make money.
By not solving the problem, they would lose players and with players they'd lose money. With less players, there would also be less gilsellers, because gilsellers go where the customers are, and without gilsellers there wouldn't be anyone to ban who would just come back to the game within 3 days and pay for both a new game and an account. They need some kind of balance, I suppose.

Also, the gil made by gilsellers were were mostly made in a legal way (unless they used a third-party program or duplicated the gil), so it's hard to find valid evidence against them. They are also free to do whatever they want with the gil they make in the game as long as it does not violate the ToA, and this includes sending them to a "friend" to "help him/her out", and this "friend" will violate the ToA by putting the gil up for sale for real life money. The fact that this "friend" of theirs just happen to send some money into their RL bank account every now and then has nothing to do with it.

The easiest way to deal with gilsellers is letting the GMs do their job, the task-force do theirs, do not spam the GMs with "OMG this guy is an RMT"-calls, and above all:

Do not buy gil. Without customers, there would be no sellers.

Still, some people don't understand this. They whine about the economy being screwed up, then buy gil from the sellers, contributing to screwing up the economy even more, increasing the amount of sellers and giving themselves and everyone else even more to cry about.
You know who you are, shame on you.

Re: Special Task Force. Where art thou?

I wonder...could SE possibly do some type of...say income tax type thing? Like how the U.S. government returns money once a year (depending on what you made and what not). But the way I see it, could they do something like, with so much gil being instantly wiped from the server, they could return some to the players. I mean I doubt this immensely, but say, giving like 100k or less to every player on the server, I know that'd help make up the millions of gil that was wiped. I think that would help, as when I get my income tax check, it's kinda like I'm getting 100k in XI, I can go buy something I don't really need, but I've been wanting, or save it for when I can buy something even bigger. Maybe a smaller amount like 50k or so? I don't think this would happen, but I feel that it'd really help players as a whole.

I'm also aware of how this could be abused, and that if a specific date was announced, many people would make mules just for the money, but there could possibly be a play time minimum, or something. I just feel that this would help, and I came up with it as I was reading.

Thanks to Roguewolf for the sig. :D

Oh, I'm very positive that SE is working on that problem. A funny post recently seen definatly had proof that something is being done. Sorry have to take my word on that, area it's posted at I can't direct anyone too.

Re: Special Task Force. Where art thou?

The fact that Gilsellers are having to go to these measures to keep up with demands on their websites means that SE is dealing the damage.

As long as we take the time to list the possible gilsellers to them, it will help them out.

                Ways to remedy this problem...

-Throw in an item that will instantly break a rod if the bot tries to pull a catch up in a city.

-Add a maximum level (for the zone) monster in the waters of that zone. These will be pulled up at random (circumventing the !!! system SE put into place)

I personally think the whole "!"/"!!!" fishing system needs to go away, and for the range of stamina/aggressiveness of various monsters/fish/items to be across a wider range so the bots and players can't always accurately predict what they're pulling up.
