Re: Wow Expansion hijacks chocobo
lol, sorry. you know how topics in threads go... a random comment gets made and then there is a whole conversation gets started. ok, back on subject... now if WoW started letting you change your birds color based on stats, then we know we have a problem.

Re: Wow Expansion hijacks chocobo
No offense Antivomit... but when did this thread have anything to do with the quality of graphics between WoW, FFXI, and... GW? (I have no clue why GW was brought into a thread about chocos')
If you want to discuss your views on GW and its graphics, then please post a thread about it on the Video Game section of the forums and not here, thank you.

Re: Wow Expansion hijacks chocobo
I agree with all of that.Originally posted by Rai View PostThe Guild Wars shots look pretty good, I have Guild Wars, over all it has a much higher esthetic sense than WoW but still it falls short of matching FFXI.
The female characters are a bit over idealized, tiny waists big boobs. They look good but fall on the side of being a caricature.
The proportions of elements within the enviroment often seem off, and I don't mean because they often attempt to create ruins or cities on a grandiose scale, in doing so they somehow have just not gotten it right.
They often break their established color palette and use overly vibrant colors.
Overall I like the looks of Guild Wars, but for me the game's other short comings made me go back to FFXI. The cities are where you interact with other players but once you venture out of the cities you are in your own Instanced World. Also PvP is a major aspect of the game, I am not into PvP, I'd rather play a co-operative game.
I think they have the idealized female proportions to keep it feeling fantasy, and no one (that I know) fantisizes about ugly people. I'm not defending idealizing women, I'm just saying, that's where I think they were going with that.
And about the PvP. I love the competition aspect, but I need more... I need more game content. More lvls. More room to grow. So yea, FFXI blows that part out of the water.
There are pros and cons to an instanced world.
Some pros are:
1.) Never have to worry about someone claiming you NM (just boss in GW) or camping spot.
2.)Gives you a chance to be alone in thought and gameplay sometimes, which is needed every now and then.
3.) Allow for the cities and town to be able to have connected servers, so a player isn't bound to just one server for their entire gaming career.
Some cons are:
1.) If you die without a party, your screwed (kind of, GW has Ressurection Shrines so you can be raised if you die).
2.) Gets boring after so long without seeing other people (if your without a party).
3.) No mob respawn until you rezone.
Either way, it's all based on what you want out of a game. I want awesome looking graphics (armor, weapon skins, etc.) and high levels/vast explorable area. GW has the graphics and FFXI has the the vastness. And in the end, gameplay is what really matters.

Re: Wow Expansion hijacks chocobo
Yea I tried to show the diversity of the armor selection in the game. The armor clad, batman looking one, is the warrior. Exactly the opposite of FFXI, GW is mostly consistent of Mage-style characters, where as FFXI is mostly melee. The warrior armor for GW is awesome. There are a lot of other types of armor in that style too, that is just one of my favorites.
If you liked that armor, you'll like these too...

Re: Wow Expansion hijacks chocobo
Well graphics wise it is decent, they did good on color and shading. Design wise of the gear though not quite my cup of tea. I'd have a hard time with the equipment displayed (Except for maybe that guy completly clad in heavy armor). Other then that surrounding and all reminds me of Lineage II.Originally posted by Antivomit View Posthttp://guides.gamepressure.com/guild..._screen_18.jpg

Re: Wow Expansion hijacks chocobo
This is a ridiculous argument. I consider myself one of the more knowledgable players in FFXI and I haven't come close to completing all the content in FFXI no matter how hard I try.Originally posted by Grizzlebeard View Post4. Have you experienced all content the game has to offer across all level ranges for each race on both Alliance and Horde side? If you haven't then once again kindly close your mouth and sit on your hands.
For that matter, since (to my recollection) you haven't played FFXI yourself in quite some time, by your own logic what makes you competent to make comments about it?
I'll ask you here to stop trying to silence other forum members who disagree with your views. Disagreement is fine, but telling people they have no right to an opinion (correct or otherwise) is improper behavior when on a public forum such as this. These forums exist specifically to share views, not toe the party line.

Re: Wow Expansion hijacks chocobo
The person I was responding to made a blanket statement the game held no challenge which is patently absurd to anyone who had played it for any length of time beyond the starting levels. There's a big difference to someone making educated criticism or even offering an opinion based on experience but the person in question was just spewing stupidity and maligning a good game. So, before you start defending people's freedom of speech and expression then please make sure you read and understand both sides of the discussion and I'd be grateful if you refrained from trying to put words in my mouth.Originally posted by Theyaden View PostI fear that in this instance Grizzlebeard you make yourself look foolish. Telling someone they have no right to hold an opinion because they disagree with you is realy disapointing in an otherwise well thought out post. Arguing he's misinformed is one thing telling him he's not allowed to comment is truely repugnant.

Re: Wow Expansion hijacks chocobo
I agree, both the chocobo and the "phoenix" look very similar. (Btw, how can Blizzard create something like "that" and call it a phoenix? It looks like the bastard child of an ostrich and a peacock...)
However, in terms of stealing it, WoW couldn't be sued (as much as I would love to see that), since they could just argue that the gnomes mount (the "mecha-raptor" I think it's called) looks exactly like a choco too and it's been around for years.
It doesn't bother me really, as I don't play WoW and will never care too. I play FFXI purely because I love the FF franchise.
FYI, I'd be very careful about getting off-topic, as (from the posts I've been reading) this thread is starting to become a FFXI vs WoW flame thread. Let's just try and get along and just focus on the ostriches...

Yeah, but none of those concepts were new even when the series first launched.Originally posted by Jarre View PostOn the thread, what ever point it has. People seem to have forgoten the length of the FF franchise (first installment released in Japan in 1987 (19 years ago!!!!)

Re: Wow Expansion hijacks chocobo
I played WoW during the first seven months or so after launch, and I did every bit of content that exisited at the time. They have added a considerable amount since then, but it's still possible to get through everything in about a year's time if you play a lot.Originally posted by Bricklayer View PostI think you are right, in principle. However, I would like to submit that going through all of WoW's content for both sides shouldn't take more than about 1 year (rough estimate). Players can hit 60 in a couple of weeks. Actually getting the drops for tiered armor takes time (especially if you rolled a popular class).
That's not a dig at WoW, mind you. But it does take more time if nothing else to get to all of FFXI's content.

Meh, can't really say.. I mean how else are you going to design a mount that's a bird, but yeah I think it looks more like a magical ostrich than a chocobo ^^
