Re: Am I doing something wrong?

Best thing to do is to just find something else to do while you wait. Lfp as a DD isn't exactly a pretty thing. There are so many other DDs wanting the same party slot you do and not enough parties to accomodate them. It's hard if you don't have an uber reputation or if everyone and their mom doesn't know you. I would just put myself on seek and go read or watch tv while waiting. Or craft. Or farm. Or anything constructive to get my mind off the wait time. Leveling DD just requires patience after a certain point.

Re: Am I doing something wrong?

I have found that timing is very important. The odds are greater of finding a party if you wait to peaks times The weekends have the most people followed by the evenings The game gets crowded, those are you best best for parties If you are on when there arn't people available it is a good time to farm (less competition) build craft skills, etc,, Best time to buy stuff is Sunday evening, Monday morning after everyone has loaded up their auction. Also I have usually just give a shout that I am <job> <pos> seeking party. Sometimes that helps, but we have all waited for hours for a party unsuccessfully. I usually build magic, fish, farm etc then you time isn't wasted. Have a nice day!

Re: Am I doing something wrong?

all jobs go thru lfp blues. melee is the worst. if you broke down the jobs into melee, mage, support and tank classes, you would see too many melees compared to other classes. this will actually get worse as you level, due to the fact that there are less lvl 50 players than there were lvl 30 players. there are even less lvl 60's than there are level 50's. if you enjoy playing dont quit or let this discourage you. i have went weeks lfp and not get one. i nearly gave up myself once i hit 60. i didnt get a party for over 3 months. so i leveled some other jobs , took a break from playing and finally came back. i got in a ls party that got me to 61 and all of a sudden things picked up again. this will always go in cycles. my nephew has a lvl 65 pld and hes been complaining about lack of partys, so it happens to all job classes at some point. as others have said comments in search could help. if you use a search comment that helps people remember you could be all you need. last line of my search comment is "Tarutaru <Impossible to Gauge>" . i think this help people remember me when they were sorting thru the list of replacements that looked like this. 6 drks 2 thfs everytime i logged on, and yes i did it with a taru melee so dont give up.

          1. I avoid inviting people without search comments. If I don't know anything aobut you I take a risk by giving you an invite. Also, it shows a lack of dedication.

          2. Get a windower and a chat monitor so you can surf the web or whatever you want to do on your computer while waiting for invites.

          3. Get your rank ups as fast as possible. I never invite people, especially melees, below rank 5 unless I know what kind of gear they have and so on. 90% of the time low rank melees are utterly useless. You're better off with only 5 members than with that sword wielding 25WAR/10THF who carries no food.

Lol? Sorry, but I find "TNL" to be the most annoying acronym when @ is so much better. Also, I've never come across someone who misconstrued the symbolism of "@" like that. o_O

But yeah, you could try this:
            Line1: @3500
            Line2: {English}/{Japanese} OK
            Line3: {Tele-Altepa}: O
(For O in the last line, use the O in the tab menu. Tab > Controller > O Button. Then just delete the button part.)

Also, when I make my own parties, I always try to get those with search comments. I find those that put them up, are willing to go "the extra mile" more often in parties. I know a few people who strictly invite those with search comments (if available...).

I really don't think telling someone to break the TOS is a good idea... Instead, maybe play your PS2 while you wait? (If you can.) Read a book? Study? It's what I do.

Sorry, not all of us have level 75 friends who can power level us through this stuff. ;[ Not to mention, food is expensive.

Personally, I frown away from people who aren't Rank 3 when 30+ or using an advanced job. It's easily obtainable, but it's still a decent challenge for newbies.

Edit: By the way, I had LFG up in Valkurm as a BARD for 4 hours already. Then I just logged off. It's not because I had crappy gear (I spent 300k on +CHR gear and all the special instruments), but some days are just bad.

Windower should be legal for melees pre lvl 70.

@ means "at", which is why it's confusing. If you say "at 1,000",it seems you mean 1,000 into the level. "@ 1,000 tnl" would actually make sense, but in that case you can just drop the "@".

Either way, why do you think it's annoying? It takes two key presses to do "@", and three to do "tnl". Is that one extra key-press THAT much more difficult for the sake of being clear?

I "grew up" with @ when I first started. TNL just feels like an EQ term to me, and I never really could get into EQ. :/ EQ2 was okay, though. Just no ambiance like WoW or FFXI has.

@ has been my bread and butter ever since the 「僕はアメリカ人です。僕は日本語まだへたです。ごめん;;」 days..

Edit: It may just be me, but the forum but two "?" in those phrases of Japanese. <.<

Hmm, I never saw it on NA search comments until recentish. It really did confuse me the first couple times I saw it.

You don't need a 75 friend to get a decent weapon. It does't have to be HQ unless you're a RNG. Then get some NQ STR rings or whatever and meat jerky for 100-120gil from Sandy and you're good to go. The gear costs less than 50k total and the food offers an excellent damage boost for low levels and costs almost nothing.

The use of @ was invented by the Japanese. It has nothing to do with being easier to type. It's just something the English speaking community adopted in case a JP player doesn't know what TNL stands for.

Well, that makes it easier for JPs to invite you, but when people started using "@", NAs didn't know what that meant (like me. I think I even passed someone by because I thought they were like 4k into the lvl when they were really 4k tnl).

I meant the rank part. xP I couldn't even get my LS to help me get Rank 3 when I started doing the Windurst missions. <__< Gogo /shout!

Anyways, he's not a low level, though. I'm not sure what food is good for melees that level, as the highest melee job I ever played was a Corsair at 25. But I bought Dhamel Soup the other day (just because lol) and payed 4k for one of 'em. D: That's pretty expensive, but it is quite good.

Re: Am I doing something wrong?

"@" vs. "TNL" isn't exactly going to keep someone from getting invited. At least, I hope not. I wouldn't want to party with a leader who was that anal retentive anyway. The only time I've ever seen anyone use @ to mean how much XP they had (vs. how much they need) is when they put the total, too, as in: @1500/5000. You could always (gasp!) put both: @3000 TNL.

In my experience, very few party leaders remember your TNL for longer than three minutes when they even bother to check it.
