Now that you mention FF1, I just realized the starting 6 jobs in FF1 are the same starting jobs in FF11. War, Thf, Mnk, Blm, Whm, Rdm.

Zage, that's pretty interesting. I wonder if they meant for that?

Probably. I mean, WAR MNK THF RDM WHM BLM are pretty much iconic as far as FF games go. So it's very possible that was intentional.

That's true. The base jobs are normally those.

Like in FF6, the first 6 chars...

          Terra - Blm
          Locke - Thf
Edgar - War, I guess? He used spears and tools with crossbows and uh... Chainsaws.
          Sabin - Mnk
Celes - Rdm, had Cure, Power, and Black Magic.
          Banon - Whm

          I guess? Not sure.

Well in FF5, the first set of jobs were close, Blue mage instead of Red mage, and they called it Knight but it's essentially Warrior. In FF4, uhhh... you start with Drk, Drg, you get a Smn/Rdm (Rydia starts as one I guess), Blm, then Brd, and then you get other non-basic jobs.
As for FF2 and FF3, so few NA people have played them...

Anyone want to go into detail about FF7+?
(we're waaaaaaaay off topic now though)

Both NIN and SAM, if played well, are really awesome jobs. What I dislike is when players can't play these jobs well.

It is so hard to find a decent NIN tank who realizes just Provoke and Utsusemi aren't going to hold hate.

Find a NIN who can hold hate, and count his own shadows; and a SAM that can skillchain, you can have an awesome party.

Seriously, had a NIN tank the other night; all he did was Provoke and Utsusemi. Well, he says in party chat:

I'm sorry, I have to go, I'm using too many tools.

All I have to say to that is wtf. All he used was Utsusemi XD

                    Re: Samurais and Ninjas

I don't see the ninja being the problem, I am having more trouble finding DD that can
actually do some damage and kill the mob. Slow kills just cost me money, lol.

                    (currently leveling Ninja @ level 56 )

edit: also, Aelathir, I love your avatar. I actually have that t-shirt from threadless.

I still wanna see a NIN/SAM DD, a friend of mine is leveling NIN and we wanted to try this out but we haven't been able to.

Ni ninjutsu + shurikens should make em good DD, but then again... are shurikens still too expensive to use them as often as arrows? If they are then maybe marksmanship would work better.

I would say Cloud was more of a warrior.

He had many katana-ish swords, stood like a samurai and used many samurai-ish sword techniques, those to me say he was at least based on the idea of a samurai. Warriors(Fighters ect) always had more of a european flair and Cloud was all japanese. But that's just my opinion.

I never really considered Auron a samurai. Instead I though of him as the tough fighter. While he uses a katana, the abilities early in his pathline, I associate more with Warrior/Knight/Paladin job. Those jobs having defencive abilities like guard, cover and breaks while samurai abilities focus on damage and damage prevention (By stuns and avoiding attacks) such as Swordgrab, third eye, Gil Toss. Although FFT samurai gets party buff and magic attacks as well. Most of the FFX characters strike me as combination job characters, without a defined job.
