Like AngryUndead I type fast enough that communication isn't much of an issue - for me, at least. I can't really say the same about a lot of the other people I interact with.
The only issues I have with voice chat (and they are minor) is that some people can't use voice chat while playing because they aren't in the same room with their PC, or they aren't willing to use a windower, or in rare cases, because they are hearing impaired. My WoW guild used it for raids, and they got really bad about communicating via text to those who weren't using Ventrillo, and I felt bad for those folks who were always like "Why are we going this way? What's going on!?" I can only imagine it was pretty frustrating.
So, while I'm all for tools that make your gaming experience more enjoyable, I do caution people to keep in mind those who can't use these tools and act accordingly. Or something.
You do NOT have to use the windower and have voice chat. The only reason you might want to access your voice chat window would be to change rooms. If there is an Admin on the server they can do this for you. But all in all there are very few reasons to need to access the program after starting it up and joining a room.

But I mean I do not mind a good looking man so long as I do not have to view his penis.

God I hate my periods. You think passing a clot through a vagina is bad? Try it with a penis.

Good to know re: Ventrillo and Windower. I figured it was like that anyway considering you can run other programs (like iTunes) under FFXI. That still doesen't solve all the problems, but it's a start.
