I'm not able to get this game =(

Okay . . . Yeah, the title says most of it, but here goes anyways. I've been wanting this game for a little more than a year, I think. I've saved up money for the box, and more than a few payments. My local EB and Gamestop sell it. Everything seems fine and dandy. But, it's not.

My mom (keep in mind I'm only 11, don't give me that "get your own credit card" crap, and I've actually looked into a getting prepaid one) refuses to put the monthly payment, even if I give her the money for it, on her credit card. We've talked about getting me a pre-paid credit card, but we've been talking ( read : arguing) about it for almost 5 months. I keep my grades up, I'm responisble, and all that stuff, but nope. She refuses.

Okay. I've got that out of my system now. Any advice?

listen, not playing this game is not the end of the world. actually, it's probably one of the better things you can do for yourself at your age. MMOs are a time sink and addicting. This is really bad for your studies and social life -- things you should be working on/developing now.

There will be other MMOs in the future don't worry about it.

Serriously, though, neighbortaru's right. Give it a few years (or in your case, seven) and wait until you have your own credit card and debt. There will be other games out there for you in time.

Thats real tough luck. I used to be in a similar situation when i was a kid. I had great grades, was responsible etc, but my parents just wouldnt get me a SNES. Period. Reguardless of saving my own money and all that. It boils down to one of the hard points in life and that is: your parents are your parents, for better or worse, you have to abide by their rules. /comfort.

I know how to balance MMOS with real life, I've been a relatvely active froob on Anarchy Online since last year . . . I'm a B+ student, and friends with almost everyone in the 6th grade, too.

Never played AO, but managing one game does not necessairly mean you can manage FFXI. The time investment is HUGE.

id hate to sound like an adult and all but, nt is right.

this game takes up a lot of time. it's not something you can just pick up for an hour and turn off. the thing about ffxi is, it's not geared for the casual gamer. everything in this game takes a lot of time. crafting, xping, missions, etc.

i think your mom knows best. (i really hate saying that, sorry)

if you really are bent on this, show your mom how you'd control your playing time. do you play other games? when she tells you to get off and go do your hw or go to bed, do you listen to her or do you try to drag along by asking for another 5 minutes? if you try to drag along, maybe that's why she doesnt want you to get it. she doesnt want to have to bother with nagging you every day about it. show her that you do other things too if you playd the game. like you wouldnt waste your whole saturday on the game. you'd still go out and play or do sports. i think that's what she doesnt want. show her you'll be responsible.

restarted in Feb 2006 and I'm still only 32/18 WHM/blm and 9 BST while others could have gotten to 50+ by the same time.

Omni, I do the positive answer to all those questions XP That's what irks me. And she doesn't tell me to get off and do my homework, my homework is already done before I play videogames for the rest of the night. And even before I do my homework, me and my friends that walk home from school together play a game of basketball almost every day on mine or one of their hoops, and play most of the day on saturday :\

Well I'm glad that somebody can manage their time responsibly between an MMO and real life (lord knows I don't), but if your mom says no then nothing any of us say here really makes a difference. Sorry you can't play, since you seem like a stand-up guy, but according to the terms of service you're not even supposed to play until you're 13 anyway.

lol, I don't think I know very many people who obey that, even on the games where they have a warning where you can get banned if they find out you're not 13 . . . or is that just owning those free forums? I dunno XP

Are you able to open up a checking account? As long as it is a Visa, you can use a debit card as well. That is probably more risky for you though, as you chance bouncing your account every month if you aren't ready for it.

I feel for you as well. I had to make a bunch of deals get my wife to allow me to go with a monthly fee. This is my first MMO. It was a mistake to try the Beta. I'm hooked!
