It boils down to the fact that your mother is your mother! If you've shown her that you're responsible enough to handle it and she still won't budge, there isn't much hope. But one thing you have to realize is that your idea of being responsible and her's could be two entirely different things. It reminds me of when my kids were young and I'd tell them they could do X if they could go and clean Y first. Now it takes an hour to clean Y and after 10 mins they would be there saying "I'm done!!" with a big smile. When I went to see this "done", it was usually just a surface cleaning and nothing more. The point is, my idea of clean and their idea of clean were two entirely different things.

One of the best things to do is to ask your mom to sit down and have a serious talk. Express to her why you feel you're responsible and how you would like to play FFXI. Tell her that you are willing to have limits set on your time playing if this would make her feel better. (I personally made my kids earn time to play video games by giving them X amount of time for completing homework, cleaning their room, going outside for an hour, etc.) After you tell her that you feel you're responsible and give her examples of your responsibility, be ready to hear her tell you why she thinks you're NOT responsible. Remember, your idea of responsibility and her's could be entirely different. And a HUGE thing to remember is to keep your anger in check. Even if you're getting really pissed off, do NOT yell or get angry!

Thats about all you can do because in the end your parents have final say. That pretty much goes until you leave their house so you'll have plenty more of these "run-ins" with them. It's how you handle yourself that shows how ready you are for more responsibility.

listen, not playing this game is not the end of the world. actually, it's probably one of the better things you can do for yourself at your age. MMOs are a time sink and addicting. This is really bad for your studies and social life -- things you should be working on/developing now.

There will be other MMOs in the future don't worry about it.

I agree with what TheGrandMom said, and in addition, please do make sure you have a parent watching or being aware of what you're doing online, to make sure you don't make any mistakes, or your parents getting any unexpected bills! x.x

Speaking of worthless replies....

Neighbortaru's advice was very good. There will always be games to play but you will not always be 11 years old. Developing your social skills and getting out and doing things at that age is far more important than sitting in front of a screen for endless hours trying to get that next lvl.

Alright, I thought about GrandMom's reply a bit more and have something to add...

It was where she mentioned that you sit down and talk with her about how you see yourself as responsible and that you'd like to play. Well, you also have to look at things from your Mother's perspective too:

Maybe she's uneasy about lending her Credit Card number to a video game company for a monthly debit. It took me a lot of convincing myself to use my own credit card for the game. It was the first time I had ever used it for anything online; maybe your mother is feeling similarly reserved?

My suggestion is to sit with her as GrandMom said, but also print off Square-Enix's privacy policies and whatnot. Even if you have to leave the material with her for a week, she'll have something from the company that she can read over. Testimonials couldn't hurt from users like ourselves and even if you have any friends that play that your mother knows... if she sees that their parents are comfortable with Credit Card debits, maybe she will be too.

Just a thought, but try to look at all the possibilities.

I started this game when I was 15 years old... Yes, I was young, didnt have many friends (i had 1 and that was it), I was horrible in my studies, etc. I was the poster child of how to siclude(<~ probably not spelt right) yourself from the world. I started up FFXI because ive been a huge fan of the Final Fantasy franchise and my parents didnt like it at all. They thought it was a waste of time and effort. And in some aspects they were right.

Now when I was 16, been playing for awhile... had my first level 50 character, FFXI was all I talked about. My mom got sick of it and told me to shutup or she would take the game away from me. In response, I told her if she took the time to even watch me play for a few hours, I would stop talking about it to her. We came to an agreement and she started watching me play. She slowly learned that the game was not just about killing and chatting... that there was real math invloved in it. The game taught you how to manage money, how to work with an economy, etc. She slowly learned it wasnt a bad game. Well... one day she said she wanted to try playing. So I made her a new character on my account and she started playing... she only got to lv15, but she stopped that character and got her own account so we could play together. That was over a year ago! Now her and I play with my Uncle, my Aunt, my Cousin, and a few of our friends. This game has a way to unite people.... my mom, aunt, and uncle were NEVER into video games... but now they love FFXI.

Why I shared this story with you, I dont really know... but maybe it will give you hope that someday it will work out.

P.S.~ For the record, Im 18 now... been playing for 3 years ^_^ and still love this game.
