i haven't read the entire thread here, tho i've been curious about this whole gil selling buying thing that everyone's talking about. what's preventing square-enix from just shutting down ige or at least hindering them? couldn't they track delivery boxes down in the game and ban the accounts that are working with ige or somethin?

    just wonderin. :spin:

Can't you post something useful and that's not in caps for once?

The problem with gil-sellers is that they don't effect S-E's monthly income. If gil-sellers were hated to the point where a lot of people (maybe 1000?) quit because of gil-sellers and all sent e-mails or called customer services because of this issue that would get S-E's attention. For now the gil-sellers are just another paying customer and if you were Final Fantasy XI's money manager I doubt you'd want to cut money off. Either way we just gotta wait until one day gil-selling actually makes a big impact on the gaming community.

I have 2 friends in my LS. One buys gil, the other doesn't. Both have limited play times. Guess which one has a level 57 character they can play with the rest of the ls and her friends, and guess which one is level 40 and always struggling for money and constantly irritated that she can't ever do anything with us because she has to take 2 out of 3 of her day a wek to play farming?

I'm sorry, but gil selling isn't a problem. You can't prove it's hurting the economy. Hate to break it to you but the prices on a lot of items that people are screaming about are starting to come down. And the camps they take always suck anyway. Is it cheating? Sure, but pardon me for not caring about SE's little rules.

To be blunt, I've never met anyone other than me who likes to farm. And I've never met anyone, other than me, who has the time to farm 15 hours a day. And I've only ever met 1 person who could farm for weeks on end. So SE can take their little time sink, and you can take your sissy complaining about unfair advantages, and stow it. I'd mugh rather party with someone who bought gil and was well equipped than some tool who was perfectly fine with being sub par.

As an aside, nobody ever cares about an online petition.

See Arkadya, the point is that if you can't even put the effort to get gil in game then you suck at it. You suck at this game if you can't play it without an outside cheating source. If you can't put up with the farming, then you just straight up suck. Can I make this any more clear for you? What more is there to understand? Get a different game if you don't like farming, like Super Mario Bros. or something.

Oh and Outaru if you really didn't understand my post, its just I worry for the people of Fairy because now they've got a high level noob running around. How would you feel if you were trying to get a party together, invited a BRD thinking "hell ya good deal," then come to find out the guy is a noob and just bought the account. Maybe you're the dumbass for not seeing the harm in what you just did?

actually it effects you more then you would know. at 1 time i could farm 50k up to 500k in 4 hours. 50k being a bad outing, an 500k being an awesome outing. now imagine going to farm an seeing the same 4 drgs, 2 of witch have a whm partner. over an over. now on average i make 25k-65k an outing, an this is not a problem...???....

now think of castle oz. think of a tiny area with 8 lil gil bots. good luck gettin that nm. an you ask how does that effect you. well when they basically corner the market on said item. it does effect you, an the economy..

my buddy on another server bought vasagoo for 70k. an it jumped to 360k for awhile. an you say item sales are declining. sniper rings once sold for 280k on my server. last i saw it was at a steady 480k. an at 1 time was as high as 560k. emp hairpin was 280k now its 480k. an you say items prices are declining?? wake the hell up. i didnt have a problem buying top notch gear for my 60drk, my 60war, an now my ninja. brynie, haubergeon, sniper rings, emp hairpin, an leaping lizzy boots, an i didnt have a problem farming them all. i didnt hunt the nm's for the items. i farmed the gil for them. all with limited time.

heres the thing most fail to understand. gil farmer sells you 1 mill gil. for 500 us dollars. you want 1 item up for sale in a.h. this item has sold for 750k for awhile, an now only 1 is up. 800k later unable to buy. you finally get your item for 1 mil gil. an what you fail to realize. the item was sold by the same people you bought gil from. 500us dollars, to buy gil. to give the same amount of gil back for them to do all over again..

an for others. there was a service update to all a.h, an delivery boxs. can this be S.E putting in scripts to zero in on gil buys or sellers? one can only hope

All this self-righteous bullshit needs to stop.

                          Cheating:

OMFG Cheating is built into video games, hence the term cheat codes. Don't sit there and stand on your soap box and preach about never cheating when I know you have been to tons of FFXI's sites to find out about quest information, and that is just one example. Is that cheating, hell yes, you did not figure out the quest information you had someone tell you step by step how to do it. I have more to talk about so I'll leave it at that.

                          You suck because you farm:

Anyone who farms (defined as killing the same shit over and over for cash) is more of a noob than you know. Go figure out how to make money!

                          Selling my account:

Look moron, I have no intention of every coming back to FFXI, lets see here close my account and leave with nothing or sell it and get 300 bucks. Any half intelligent person would choose 300 bucks over nothing.

As I stated at the start, all this self-righteous bullshit needs to stop.

Now youre insulting people who farm? WTF? It's a very effective and legitimate way to make money in this game. You seem to think money falls from the sky in this game, but it doesn't. I can list all the money makers in this game, until really high level, none of them are going to get you much more than farming.

                            1) camp NM- some people like to do this, and if you get the item it is a lot of cash. Problem here is competition for the good NM's are fierce, and you are not guaranteed the drop even if you do claim it. Some people prefer to spend all these hours killing mobs for sure drops, and build money slowly but surely.

                            2) BCNM- can't do this by yourself, and the most popular one, BCNM 40 requires a Bard which isnt always easy to find. On top of that, you are limited by the Beastman Seals you have. Once they are gone, you can no longer do BCNM until you collect 40 more.

                            3) Craft- To really, really make money crafting, you have to invest much more, and some people who are just trying to save for an item don't want to go backwards before they can go forwards. Crafting is a long term commitment, and often takes a long, long time to see significant payout.

                            4) Fishing- relatively easy to do, but can be extremely frustrating, as you can often go hours with only a few fish caught. I fished in East Ronfaure yesterday to skill up. 1 hour, no fish, composite fishing rod, fly lure, full fishing gear, lvl 11 skill... zilch. NOT a reliable money maker, even if you go for carps. Damn moon plays too big of a factor.

                            5) Gardening- time, time, time. Those who can get elemental ores on a semi consistent basis will have some nice spending money, although the 18 day wait is a bit painful. Still, with more and more people learning how to make these ores, its only a matter of time before tree cuttings, saplings, and ores prices hit rock bottom.

                            6) Teleport Taxi- decent money to be made, but leveling WHM to high enough level is a real pain, especially if you hate the job. On top of that, i sold all the scrolls I quested for, so I would have to buy them all again. It would take a large initial investment, and competition is getting more and more in Jeuno, as there are constant shouts from teleport whores.

                            7) Raids/HNM - probably can be most profitable but requires a high level character 65+ and a large amount of people who can get together on a semi regular basis. Again, something you cant go do by yourself.

                            8) AH gouging- what I mean is getting items that sell cheap in one place and raising price in an AH somewhere else. Jeuno spells, little worms, arrows, flowers, etc come to mind. Chump change.... you're much better off farming.

                            9) Quests- mostly non repeatable, and those that are repeatable require you to farm the items (ie Quadav Helms, Tiger Fangs)

                            ***********************************

I think I've presented a fairly reasonable argument as to why farming is not a n00b thing to do, care to tell me why it is Outaru, or are you going to just keep talking out of your ass?

And you're wrong. Being able to put up with farming or not has no bearing on skill or appreciation for money. I've farmed just about every cent I've ever had and I will tell you that only once have I ever seen an item priced too high for me to buy (when snipers were 600k, now down to 500k, omg prices ARE dropping).

Yes, because if those gil farmers weren't there, you would have the camp all to yourself. There is absolutely no reason to believe that if they weren't there, other people would not flock to the camp spot . For 2 months I had a camp to myself, and while it wasn't particularly good money, it was enjoyable to camp there. Now there's almost always someone else there. Camp spots get moved in on all the time. Whether it's gil farmers or actual people really doesn't matter to me.

I went to this spot once, I outvoked (chi blasted actually) every one of them. Maybe they have a monopoly on it because nobody cares about that spot anymore? Everyone knows it's a shitty NM camp with a shitty drop rate(aren't they all?).

I used to know someone that was a programmer for a couple games. Asked him what the purpose for cheat codes were. His response (common reasoning for most of the industry as he'd stated):

We put the cheat codes in there generally to extend the life of the game after it's been beaten, and for those who aren't skillful enough to get to the endgame on their own so they can still get to the end (and don't make trash reviews for stating the game is so hard).

Again, that's coming from people in the industry. Food for thought.

Again Outaru, if you're never coming back to FFXI, why the heck do you care?
