Charmed by Enkelados

Yeah, I've been charmed by this guy myself. At the time, I didn't know it could charm. So I proceeded to take his bat out and then him, thinking he was just like the other Gigas BST's in Delkfutts with bats. Then, taking him about half-way down his HP, he charms me, which means instant death for my wyvern and me just running around and following him for a good long while. After he recovered his HP to full, I was released from charm and then free to go my merry way, running the heck away. x_X

Yeah, basically the best you can do is just buff your light defense and hope it's enough to resist it. The nice thing is it only does simple attacks as far as I've had happen to me, that would just suck if I ended up using my Barrage and Eagle Eye on some unlucky person to come by.

I fought this on the way out from finishing zilart mission 8 fight and our monk was itching to use his 2 hour he hadn't needed during the fight (you can tell where this is going. :sweat: ). 2 had warped leaving me, the brd, pld, and mnk. We engage, lvl 74 monk activates 2hour and he is instantly charmed. Our poor ~65 pld didn't stand a chance. :dead:

if you have a pet he can't charm you or at least that's what i read somewhere

I thought that you cant kill a pc even if they are charmed by a mob. o.O;

And yes, I've kill quite a few people (yes they lose xp) in my Dynamis LS when charmed, taking the knuckles away from a 75 MNK...reeeeeally doesn't mean much...I just attack faster, for less damage.

I thought that he spawned on the 10th floor. Which ever floor it is, it's the same floor that you kill the NM Gigas for a Rank Mission.

Um, yea. It is the 10th floor for Enkelados. Same floor as Pophyrion. Pallas above him (11th floor), Alkyoneus above him (12th floor), and Stellar Fulcrum above him (13th floor, ZM8)

Lol, wow what bad luck that PLD had. Yeah but the MNK was charmed AFTER he activated his 2hr, I ment it's good that you won't activate an ability while you are charmed.

EDIT:

But with what you mentioned that means if I were to use my bow while charmed then it would be possible for Barrage to be used against someone. I've never had my character use the bow while charmed though so still not a chance I'll do that hopefully

Ick, I could just imagine being charmed when I have Patriarch Arrow and the game having me fire that without Unlimited Shot. That would suck so much.

You can buy a 100G CRACKER in Lower Jenuo that gives you resist charm. BST's have the abilty already, and the cracker is worthless =)

Maybe beating a dead horse, but info is info.

While charmed, you autoattack, and nothing else. No ranged, no magic, no nothing. You DO however use WS, and those are completely random.

so if you unequip your weapon (save for mnk) you'll be totally harmless. Ohnoes, rdm readies Combo!

I believe they left ranged attacks out so drk's and war's wouldn't get their bomb cores tossed. Same with tsars egg and such.

Dispel doesn't remove charm in the instances I've encountered it...

Well, that's about it. Always melee attacks, you're treated like a mob (no aggro from other mobs), use ws randomly after getting 100%tp. Just good to know.

On Remora a lv75 Rng with pimped out shit was fighting it~ while a few 60's were sitting by watching.
The RNG got charmed, and some DRG used provoke when it was unclaimed, probbaly thinking "Tee-hee, this NM is almost dead, so it's mine".
But, the Gigas had the other player as a pet. And the RNG opened with EES, instantly killing the DRG.

Funniest thing ever.


I don't know if EES counts as a ranged attack, I'd assume it would.

Corses in Attowah can Charm people too. My LS was there fighting Corses when CoP came out and our MNK75 got charmed and started beating up on the RDM @_@

Oh the memories this brought back when I saw this thread! Everyone HAS to get charmed at least once in this game. Totally hilarious!

First time for me was when I was exping in the tower in Qufim. Enkelados also I believe. We decide to try and kill him. We were doing well too and then oh ya, charmed! Our Japanese pld raped everyone. All the while apologizing over and over. I was crying I was laughing so hard. My husband and son stopped playing to watch it unfold too. One of my favorite FFXI memories!

Then we were all dead and away walked the pld as the NMs pet! He was making distressed faces and we were all cracking up!

Oh and then there was the time..... LOL ah memories!

Yes, the cost to enter dynamis is 1 mil gil. Up to 64 people can enter, so if split 64 ways, its not so bad... like 14k each.

The best way to deal with the Orc NMs in Dynamis (all of which use Charmga, it's a TP attack called Fanatical Dance), BST NMs don't use Charmga, just Charm) is to have a Paladin or Ninja tank it, while everyone stands back and uses ranged attacks. It works quite well since you don't waste time sitting around being charmed (the other trick is to have everyone stand close so they all get charmed). Anyway, if the Paladin/Ninja is charmed, alone, they can't do much damage to everyone else.
