An LS mate who did this 250 times, and had level 2 Windurst fame to start with also saw no shift. I currently have 9 Bastokan, 9 San d'Orian, 7 Norg, 7 Windurst.

The quest "Mandragora Mad" which you can repeat with (cheap) Cornettes apparently lowers Bastokan fame. So while you may earn Windurst fame, if you've got a lot of Bastok fame you actually end up being crapped on. I lost 1/15th (by price) of my fame in Bastok by doing 32 repeats of Mandragora Mad. I've done over 100 repeats in Bastok trying to repair that damage, but I can't seem to shake it off (I've been tempted to page a GM even.) So from what I can tell you end up net losing, as you face at least 100 Bastok repeats to repair 32 repeats worth of Windurst fame by doing Mandragora Mad. The only other quest which apparently lowers another city's fame is "Only The Best" in Selbina, which seems to counter Norg Fame, but is an amazingly cheap way to get hero in Bastok and San d'Oria.

As for good Windurstian repeats, there really aren't any that aren't ridiculously time consuming, require you to zone, or cost you about 200-400 gil a repeat on my server.

    I hope this helps.

What exatly is Only the Beast quest? I need bastok fame for my first homesick moogle quest, i think i'm fame2, or 3.

It was a typo... it's actually called "Only the best"

It's a quest offered by the sheep guy in Selbina. He wants you to bring 5 La Thiene Cabbages = 100 gil, 3 Millioncorn = 120 gil, or 1 Clump of Bohyada Moss = 600 gil

It raises fame in Bastok and San d'Oria.

More on my experiences with fame.

Person A with 0 fame pays price X for an item.
Person B with maximum fame pays price X times .85 for an item. I've checked this with over 20 items in Bastok with the help of a friend, and price differentials for extremely cheap items varied from 12% to 18%, while items that were valued at appreciable gil amounts (over 500) almost always mathematically worked out at this 15% discount, with a variance only noticeable in the thousandths of a percent on items valued over 10,000 gil.

Sold items also gain value (to NPCs), but I haven't been able to mathematically gather evidence and attempt to find a formula for fame's effect on it, though I think it is the same as the purchasing formula.

I have watched and measured fame movements in increments of this 15% change in price. While a change in 1% of an item's price is not necessarily an entire level of fame according to the NPC, it is definitely representative of changes in fame. We are aware of 9 levels of fame, but there are 15 tiers of pricing.

Due to the fact I still haven't been able to regain my "lost fame" in Bastok (Well over 100 various repeats now), I am not sure exactly how these negatively impacting quests take effect. However, weeks later it hasn't self corrected, and my prices in other shops continue suffering, as well as my sell-to-NPC prices also retaining this 1% hit.

My experiences were nearly the exact same as those listed by Shamaru. I returned to Bastok, ready to buy my next load of Cornettes only to find the prices now at 222 gil, from 219. Realizing that this was symptomatic of, though perhaps not explicitly a drop in fame, I stopped my actions and have been attempting to get to the bottom of this ever since.

On the theory of prices raising based on demand: People purchase hundreds of items everyday from regional vendors, and guild vendors. On top of this, many people buy dozens of spells, and newbie pieces of armor. Those NPCs aren't typical of city vendors though. However, I have personally bought 50-100 of stacks of rock salt from Raimbroy's Grocery in Southern San d'Oria and never experienced this price alterations. Similar situation with Distilled Water from Bat's Lair Inn in Bastok Mines. (I made Tsuraras for alchemy skill, and then later again more for ninjutsu skill.) The prices did not rises in other stores either.

While I can offer no proof or information about "Only the Best" and Norg fame, I have heard it as a rumor, and merely suggest precaution for those who wish to repeat the quest. If anyone can dig up information about any other quests that have similar effects to "Mandragora Mad" and/or prove the "Only the Best" case, it might help us solve this mystery.

If I typoed "Only the Best" in my original post it must have been fixed by a mod, for it was already corrected when I went to edit it. Thank you.

This page has several lists of how to get fame in different places and explanations of other things involving fame, such as how to check your fame, setting your title, and the relationships between different fame groups.

Jeuno fame is an average of your fame in the starting cities. Doing Jeuno quests will also raise Jeuno fame.
              Ho-hum.
