  • Warp II Abuse

So this happened to me the other day and it *really* pissed me off. I figured I'd share my misfortune a bit...

I was hunting a monster with a "friend" when he invited me and another guy to a party. He was a 50/15 blm/thf at the time. Anyhow, he turns around and casts warp II on me and then on the other guy, thus taking the spawn point to himself- and there wasn't a damned thing I could do- I couldn't leave the party fast enough. I was totally infuriated by this behavior and I naturally contacted a GM only to be informed that I take responsibility for this player being an asshat by joining his party.

I contacted Square in detail on the matter of their superfluous user conduct code and I also suggested that perhaps Warp and Teleport ought to have a confirmation like Raise does. What's to stop other self-serving players from doing this in the future?

I'm interested in hearing your own opinions.

P.S. The person who did this is named 'Blinky' and he resides on Gilgamesh- give him hell if you're on the server.

aww that sucks, I'd be pretty ticked off too. I'm sure his name will spread through the server though if he's a constant loser. There's a few people like that on Asura...will never get a party again!

      Wow what an ass.
That's why you don't PT up w/ someone and camp NMs unless you know them.

Warp II definitely needs an "accept" feature and I'm surprised S-E didn't implement one.

Yeah no kidding. What's stopping them from using warp on someone whenever they please. I would be ticked of myself if that happened to me.

            Re: Warp II Abuse

I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune. It's sad to see that a few jackasses ruin the game for nearly everyone. My advice to you is to just blacklist him. As Vittra states, if he continues his actions, soon a lot of people will find out about him.

As for Warp II having an accept feature, I disagree. There is a reason all transportation-spells do not have an "accept" feature like Raise or Tractor.

If you were to add an accept feature to "Warp II", then you would also have to add it to "Escape" and the WHM Teleport Spells. Each of those spells' functions besides transporting people from A->B is to save the party in bad situations. This is Escape's primary purpose, but Warp II & the Teleport spells have the same function. I have been in *many* situations where there is a call for this. Had there been a choice to "accept" the teleport/warp/escape, that 1 extra second would've cost someone their life.

Scenario #1 (Teleport-XXX): You pull too much agro, your party is getting beat down. You either have no BLM, the BLM has not enough mana, or the BLM is asleep. What do you do? Cast Teleport-Holla/etc. I've seen this a couple times. Yes this may cost you a long trip back, but would you rather have your party annihilated? Thought so. Adding an accept feature would cost at least someone their life.

Scenario #2 (Escape): Same as #1. You're doing it to save your party's life.

Scenario #3 (Warp II): I've been in situations where I've either helped someone with whatever quest their doing. For example, Genkai 3. The person pulled about 6 VTs & ITs on him. They were decent challenge to me, but there's no way a mage can stop them all. I Warp II him and then I Warp myself. He lives, I live.

Now, what you described is just bad etiquette. You cannot directly compare it to Tractor or Raise because the downfalls of Tractor or Raise "abuse" is more detrimental to a player than Warp II would be. How? Take for instance your typical "asshole" player. With Warp II, the worst that happens is that you lose that NM you were hunting for. Big deal. Now look at Raise or Tractor. If there was no "accept" command, a person could tractor you to the middle of mobs that would kill you the minute you got raised. As for Raise, XP loss is a BIG deal, no matter what level you are. If you're level 60 or so and you're dead. Think of the effects if Raise I over Raise II or Raise III. You would lose thousands of experience which equates to several hours of leveling up again. This is where its more detrimental than a Warp II on you.

However, the difference between the three is that Raise & Tractor are available to everyone. Warp II is only available for "in party" members. So despite the misfortune you experienced, the GM was right it was your responsibility for joining his party. That reason alone is why I never party with anyone except people I know, especially during NM hunts.

I agree it should have an accept option, but there are times warping an unwilling person is useful, if not funny. I was in a pt with a bunch of friends and we took on a pld known of us knew. We were in gustav killing goblins and bats. the pld was extremely rude and actually a crappy player. Eventually, since we were all in the same LS we agreed to kick him since he wouldn't leave. He had died earlier so we knew his HP was in windurst. while waiting for the replacement to show up, he would just run around us doing slap and poke and shooting his mouth off. so we invited him back and had our blm warp him to windurst. was this nice? no. should there be an accept option? yes. But I have to say, warping someone like this was the equivalent of sending him to his room.

I also think that an "Accept" option would be good on DezoneII. I would also add an "Auto accept" if the character does not move for 30 seconds or have a player acceptable time limit as someone suggested.

There are some positives to current DezoneII.
In Terrigan PT last night, our WHM fell asleep and would not wake up. BLM Dezoned her and everyone else to end the PT.

Server went done while I was posting last night but I was trying to say I realize that Warp II and Escape have their merits but perhaps they should at least have an option in the config for auto-accept. *I see some of us think on the same wavelength.*

As for posting the name, I feel that it was a good way to get the asshat's reputation exposed to other people, I wouldn't have posted this if I were said asshat. Perhaps I am a troll, but at least I have a good reason.

While we were fighting Ifrit the blm in my party warp2'd
a guy out he hated right before Ifrit died.
It was messed up, but it was also funny.

i do agree 100% on adding accept function on Warp II ... cause it targeted 1 person spell .. unlike Whm tele and Blm escape were all the party inclouding the person who casted the spell gets to go as well .. in EQ targeted single Teleport had and accept/decline function too while the druid/wiz group teleport didnt for the same reason.
