FFXI and Lineage 2

alot of good points being mentioned.

im sure there is alot of faults with the game just like in ff but it can't hurt to tryout games.. you never really know how a game is going to be untill you try it out yourself.

it does seem for really hardcore gamers and i am pretty hardcore maybe not as hardcore as those koreans who beat people up for games hehe but i can go on sieges at 3am and stuff.

also if you get in a good clan koreans wont be killing you cuz you could travel with clanmates or hunt with them and if anyone try to attack you you could lay the smackdown on them.

would be cool if they let you download a demo or soemthing to try it out for free instead of paying 50$ just to try it out.

Well I registered for the Open Beta... Dunno if I will get a spot or not but I can imagine it being better than being one of 10 lvl 31-33's on the entire server during my prime weekday playtime. Besides people that only play Betas because its free have themselves to blame for a shitty game, your playing it to make it better thats why its free, if you beta play because it doesn't cost any money then when the game comes out fucked up thats your own responsibility.

Desmar I played a little on all servers. I was most frequently on Ken because I got sick of getting pk'd as a newb on dep. When I got bored I tried out the test server (great drops but full of total asses) and I messed around on LOA when it first came out. I liked some of the newb stuff on loa they gave you to start off with but man that wizard hat was the ultimate pk tool. Mages would camp TI and just totally rape any new player they found.

Also my roommate got into the open beta via fileplanet so I finally got to see the game in action. So far nothing I've seen that impresses me. The one thing I'm most curious about is what I heard about zels and dais now having several levels. Not totally sure how it works but as Tarius stated early one of the most frusterating things in lineage was blowing your gear in the effort to get better gear and if they carried that over to lin2 that gives me one more reason not to play.

The game's simply like a combination between Final Fantasy XI and Ragnarok...

The land is so fricking huge I can vouch for that... there's no download zones like Final Fantasy, but exploring in Lineage will get boring fast... the lands all look the same for the most of it.

Another feature i like is you can swim... well not really, you can walk underwater. Once I missed the boat ferry and got pissed so I crossed to the other island by foot XD

Eventually I drowned, I almost made it... but then I respawned at the nearest city, on the island im trying to get to :D

lineage 1 registered IP including lineage 2 one. (can play lineage 2 if the internet cafe regitered thier IP on lineage 1) so it can be added account numbers roughly.
personal account means pplz who have played lineage on private pc only.

I beta'd Lineage back in 2000 but quit when I got some wierd error... I picked it up when I left AC in the beginning of 2003 with the 'new' lands of aden server... That was actually pretty nice I had a knight & a mage, mages were actually fun to play... But when you were talking about lowbie mages pking them, it was also common for 45+ mages & elves to go to the Island to hunt newbie PK's.

The whole diaing & zeling of weapons/armors (for those not in the know Dai = Enchant Weapon & Zel = Enchant Armor; generally you can use these to raise a weapons attack up to +6 safely & armor up to +4 although there are exceptions) though keeps prices consistant, otherwise weapons/armors become dirt cheap because they never leave the economy and their prices fall.

I have applied for beta because if I can get in I will try to promote a movement for another 'Lands of Aden' (including the Hell system) simply because a majority of NA players have greater MMO playing experience then Koreans do for the most part. I got the red knight set implemented, had a hand in getting destroy in, and a couple other ideas.

I think the biggest problem with FFXI is that there really is no 'official' forums, so the developers really aren't confronted with player issues up front. And this also stems from the "Square can do no wrong" which has showed in their latest efforts (I.e. X-2 and probably XII when it comes out). This game is designed from the ground up to leech money with the minimum GM/designer effort theres no wonder theres a surge of people quitting.

That data was taken 1 month after release in 1 country.

There is also a key difference in the way korean accounts work & the way playonline accounts work. A majority of korean players play via netcafe's. And it is also true that a majority of Korean accounts are played by multiple people. In affect NC distributes Korean accounts to Netcafes for free. Then levies a charge with the netcafe for access on a pay-per-hour basis for playing. This is also the reason why NC attempts to prevent Koreans from playing american servers because their accounts are free and if used at their own houses they get free unmetered access.

However in Lin1's case they were required to 'Grandfather Clause' some accounts because they were made & paid for before the rules came into play. And also Koreans weren't the only ones playing, there were HK guilds & JP guilds in Lin1 as well, I camped bosses w/ this chick from Japan she was pretty cool.

However this game is no longer in beta, and many of the issues that can make it a better game will likely never be addressed. However Lin2 is in beta, so good players, with good intentions need to direct that game in a positive direction. That is the job of a beta tester.

I agree with you Desmar on the fact that FFXI doesn't really have an official method of interaction between the players and the company. One thing I really did like was the fact that every month or so there was an IRC chat with two of the top people of NC in america. The only problem was most of the stuff players asked for didn't really get addressed until they finally started a server that was under control of the US section of NC. Before that the other servers were simple mirrors of what the Koreans got so there wasn't much customization to mee the NA market.

Squaresoft needs to change their public persona I believe. They don't really interact with their customers enough to know what they want. Granted they do have a pretty good phone support line but honestly that has limited uses and isn't really a vehicle for input into how the game should evolve.

Lin2 being in beta means some things may be addressed but the problem with beta is that it is too often not long enough for people to discover everything in the game and not enough beta players give their input.

In the end my main problem will always be that the end game of Lineage will always be about dominance. You get high enough in level and you can dominate other players. That isn't really the kind of game I enjoy. I'm not saying others won't enjoy that but I sure as hell don't. Let's not kid ourselves here both games are going to be a level grind. I prefer FFXI because end game consists more of completing a good story. If I get rank 10 and finish the zilaart missions and find there is no more high level content asides from camping NM's and dynamis I will probably move on. But that still gives me a good year at least of having fun in a game. To me thats whats important.

The reason I am trying to get into beta is to push for a "Lands of Aden type server" which is basically updated separate from Korean servers right from the start. If we get a Land of Aden type server right at the start, then we can mold the game to a certain extent how we want it. True there will never be missions and the like... However in my timezone parties are scarce anywhere 25+ and I would rather spend my time playing a game, improving & progressing my character rather than farming & NM camping because thats the only thing I can do until more NA's logon.

I beta tested Lineage 2 and I have to say it was one of the most BORRING games I have ever played. Seriously the game stinks beyond words. It's main flaw was the controlls, you used the mouse for EVERYTHING. The keyboard was ONLY used for typing messages. Back then there were no controller option, and from what I read there still isn't so you are limited to mouse only. Using the mouse to run, fight, move camera, select stuff GOD, click, click, click, click.....zzzzzzz. It was utterly unbearable, if I played the game again I would tell them to pay me to play it not the other way around. Seriously the game "FEELS LIKE WORK!" Because you only use the mouse, everything takes time so the game feels slow.

Compared to FFXI the game falters in other areas too. Sure Lineage 2 may have better graphics, but FFXI areas are better designed and character animations are smoother giving a much better realism to the game.

In conclusion Lineage 2 is on my list of being the 2nd worst game I have ever played.
