Even a Paladin cannot break a white mage's benediction with one provoke, no matter how much hate he/she's built throughout the battle.

However, this is what the Paladin's cover skill is for. At level 35, the Paladin gets this, and anytime the WHM uses benediction, if he/she is smart, the WHM will get his/her ass behind the Paladin and NOT RUN, and the Paladin will use cover to protect the WHM from all attacks for 30 seconds until aggression is controlled again.

Just another reason why Paladins are highly demanded.

The only skill that can pull more hate than a WHM's benediction, is the Paladin's own 2-hour, Invincibility.

      Or

The paladin could use invincible and out agro the whm.

I would rather do that only cause i know the whm would start running like a chicken with its head cut off.

Just a few things to add...

A Paladin as a tank, or Warrior, whoever the tank is needs to be verbal. They need to let people know what to do, when he tanks.

        * If the tank is not the puller, then the puller should try to pull without provoke. This may seem stupid to some but provoking off someone else with no aggro built up, sucks.

        * Mages need to help the tank. Speak with your BLM specifically, tell them to not chain nuke 2 seconds into the battle. Because they will overcome your meager amount of hate and get smacked.

        * Instruct the other people with provoke and let them know who should use it and who shouldn't, nothing is worse then four provokes going off at once, and the mob goes anywhere else but the tank.

        * In reality you only need one tank. It may seem good to ping pong, but if your tank has proper armor, and resources you only need one end of story. designate a backup for when things go wrong, horribly wrong.

        * Do not tank at level 29 with Lizard Armor, i.e. mages without right spells are a pain in the ass, as are warriors without the right weapons and armor. Do your party a favor be properly equipped.

        * Instruct your mages to not CHAIN-NUKE! This is the biggeest enemy to building up proper Hate, and they will get smacked and if they whine, then tell them to not chain nuke if they do it again, they deserve whatever they get.

        * If you are a mage, don't run when the mob starts mauling you. Guess what they can hit you over distance, and you make the warrior's chase you before you die. Take it like a man, chances are you wouldn't make it to zone anyways. ^^

        * If the party does get more then one mob, a warrior needs to break off right away and pull it. Because if not it will go straight towards the mages. It may suck, but it sounds like a bad situation anyways, take it a like a man, and provoke.

These are just some of my thoughts. Tanking is not easy, very frustrating when the people you are trying to protect make your job harder. But if it works out right things are sweet.

Yep... as I said before Mages don't run, in this game it is damn near pointless.
