  • Chocobo License Quest and Levels Question

I'm currently a level 18 White Mage in Valkrum / Mahura.

Last night my Linkshell friends helped me do the subjob quest, but now I'm wondering if I should level up a subjob (Black Mage), or if I should get to level 20, then do the chocobo quest, then level up my subjub.

    What do you guys suggest?

If I should do the quest first, should I stay in Valkrum until level 20?

    Is the Chocobo quest hard?

    (Sorry for so many questions!)

You have to feed it five waddi hares over the course of 5 real hours. It isn't really hard. I would say get the license first.

Didn't they just lower the choc. license to lvl 15 now? Anyway, you need 4 Gausebit Grasses from Wadi Hares in Wadi. I recommend G-7. Also, it's over the course of 6 hours. The first two, it doesn't eat.

get your sub to 15 first before doing choco. Because once you hit 20, you will spend the next 10 lvls of lvling in Quifim and Battalia. Plus getting the choco takes so long, you will run back and forth to quifim and lvl and being a lvl 20/10 will make it easy. i say get sub to 15, because you will most likely stay in that area from 20 to 30.

This is what i did and it worked out great. when i hit 30 and started my adv jobs, i have 2 jobs to plug into my sub till lvl 30 and lvl 60

Ok, since I have to run to Mahura to actually do the quest, should I continue running back to Windurst and fight in the Sartuabarta's?

i would. here's the course of what i did and you can figure it out for yourself. mine was in valkurn and san d'oria, but you can get the idea.

lvl to 18 in dunes, complete subjob quest.
Went to San D'Oria, change jobs
            lvl subjob to lvl 15
went back to dunes and lvl main job to 20
go to dangruf wadi and get grass
go to jeuno and start choco quest
meantime, lvl in quifim with your 20/10 character

that's what i did and it was the best way i found to use my time. also kept my mog house inventory low by not storing my subjob equipment after lvl 15.

            hope this helps

So is the Chocobo quest 20 or did they lower it to 15? I've heard this rumor on the boards quite often, Whats the level requirement?

The level requirement today is 20. But it was officially announced that in the "December patch" this level would be lowered to 15. That will probably happen on the 16th of December, when the next patch is.

What I did was to buy the 4 Gausebit Grass for 900 gil each from the AH, switch to a job in which I am level 1, and run to Jeuno, binding myself at each guard and outpost on the way. I got killed once in Jugner Forest, setting me back half a zone to the outpost, but then made the rest without problems.

If you are coming the same way, from San d'Oria or Selbina, keep on the road in Jugner Forest, avoiding Tigers and Goblins. In Batallia Downs it is better to stick to the right hand wall, the road is making too much of a detour.

It's better to go ahead and level your subjob before you try to hit 20. It won't take much time at all to get your sub up to 10 or so, a little longer if you want to get to 15. Keep in mind that your subjob's level doesn't affect you nearly as much as your main job level; the big reason for keeping your sub up-to-date is for abilities and spells, not stats and HP.

And I think (could be mistaken) that the patch is supposed to lower the chocobo riding ability down to 15, but not the quest. That is, you'll still have to level up to 20 in order to do the quest in Jeuno and obtain the license, but then you will be able to rent a chocobo with other jobs while they are still only 15th.

                    Just a question.
I want to get my chocobo ASAP because I'm VERRRY interested in doing chocobo races
Just want to know if there is any problems to travel from
selbina --> bastok with my LV15 RDM in solo?
I heard there is a underground pass with powerfull monsters, but if its true, it would put bastok in a HUGE disadvantage because no bastokien would be able to travel to the san'doria without partying with a high level group.
Please, correct me or forget my ignorance.

as the above post said, you can't get your chocobo till lvl 20, but afterwards you will be able to ride it with a lvl 15 job (after the patch). I don't know of any underground passage, but it wouldn't surprise me if it existed.

what chocobo races are you talking about? i've never seen any in-game races in my travels.

from bastok, going to the valkurm dunes, there is a little tunnel at some point connecting 2 parts of valkurm together. its not so long. but i dont know if chocobo can fit in there. i tried to run to selbina from bastok at your level, but there were a lot of monsters. i got killed  so its best to go with a party. and i also went at night which was a mistake.

You can get from Selbina to Bastok without much problems. You'll have to dodge some goblins in the Dunes, but it's easy after that. You can't take a chocobo into the Dunes from the Konschat Highlands either. I've seen people with chocobos in the Dunes, so I assume you can enter from La Theine with them.

Well, it's an idea that i got, but as every idea concerning computer, others got it before me, so I would like to start a linkshell where we'll do chocobo racing. It's not programmed, but i plan select a field with 3-4 check points, at each points, a player will be telling the passing racer a word, the winner is the first on to come back at the starting line and tell me the words in order, if they are correct, they'll win.
Prices will be awarded to the 3 first to finish.

As i said, its not a real part of the game, but it add deepness to it

The cave between Valkrum and Bastok is pretty easy if you are patient. I ran from Bastok to Selbina at level 12. At that level the main concern in the cave is the sand bats.

There are two sets of them and they aggro up to almost level 20. At around lvl 17 I was able to solo them with my RDM. The easiest way to get through the cave is to wait for someone around 17 to run the cave. If the bats are inside they will most likely train them. This isn't a big deal because the N Gustaberg/Valkrum zone line is reachable easily so if you are headed south and have been trained by bats you should be able to make it.

The other consideration in the cave is goblins. They are usually only inside the cave if they have been trained there. If you see a goblin in the cave and don't want to mess with it, follow the strategy outlined for the bats. Sooner or later someone more impatient than you will come through and train them for you.

As for Chocobos, they can run the tunnel fine. You should have no problem making the run from Jueno to Bastok on the same chocobo.

*EDIT* Err... that would be San D'oria to Bastok via the tunnel...
