It took me to level 21 to get all my subjob-items, so on the way I picked up my chocobo license.

I was on the way to the dunes to get my skull, but someone on the way to Jeuno passed me, and we joined up and went to Jeuno. I died once in Batallia Downs, but then got a high level paladin escort and all was good.

    Vrtra downed.

As for Chocobos, they can run the tunnel fine. You should have no problem making the run from Jueno to Bastok on the same chocobo.
You could always use the Rolanberry -> Passhow -> Highlands and save yourself 2 zones

Regarding the Chocobo requirements, I've read they will lower the requirements to ride a chocobo to 15, not the quest required level. It sounded to me like the second time around you will be able to ride a chocobo at level 15 but you need to have a license (Leveling Adv. Job, subjob, etc).
Again, its just as I interpreted the developer notes. I could be wrong.

Damn, and I already ran to Jeuno with my level 16 in anticipation, as I won't be able to play much more before the patch.

Well, the trip was worth it, because I was able to do the first gobbiebag quest with just the San d'Oria fame I had. Inventory increase from 30 to 35 doesn't sound like much, but in fact you lose 20 inventory slots to equipped items, so your "free" inventory space goes up from 10 to 15 by the quest. Well worth spending the 17k gil the stuff cost me on the AH.

          Er, yes you can...

Zoning into VK works just fine from the La Thienne side as well as the Konshtat side while on a Choco. If I'm going from Jeuno > Sand or Windy > Sand, I'll often stop in the highlands to get a new choco at the Crag of Dem, then roll on into Valkrum on my way over to La Thienne and Ronafure. (Yes, I can use Jugner Forrest, but I tend to avoid that zone since all the trees just KILL my machine)

As for the tunnel that connects to the two sections of VK, chocos fit inside it just fine.

As for the original post about can you make it from Selbina > Bastok as solo RDM? It's very doable, people often make the run at even lower levels in order to hook up w/ their buddies who have different home towns. It's been mentioned, but your only true point of concern is said tunnel in Valkrum. The bats inside it are sound aggro on lower levels and being a fairly tight tunnel, at your levels, there's not much taht can be done to go around them (i.e. no Sneak spell).

Your choice is to basically go *through* them, but a solo RDM, it'd be a pretty iffy fight, you'd probably win, but be badly damaged. It's not uncommon for lower levels to reach the tunnel and then just sorta stand there, waiting for the bats to get cleared. Higher level players (25+) are often in Valkrum hunting lizards and similar for the skins and other items for crafting. I know I will always kill those bats in the tunnel if I see em in order to clear it for lower levels, and I see other high levels doing it all the time as well.

Doh... Yeah - I meant to say San D'oria to Bastok... There are two departure/destination points rattling around this topic...
