  • Powergamers: How fast to level 30?

For all you power gaming beta players and importers:
How long do you expect it to take you to get to level 30 (in hours played)? 4, 8, 24, 48, 72, 168? I am just curious how fast the low levels go by once you have the game figured out and are just doing it because you have to create a new character or start a new job.

There is no way someone can get to 30 in under 24 hours, so you can scratch the first 2 choices out. 72+ hours is probably what you're looking at for a decent player.

Well I got to lvl 30 with a lvl 15 subjob in 8 days of playtime during Beta. Don't know how much faster I could do it the second time around. Remember that you need to do the subjob quest, get a chocobo plus farm gil to get adequate equipment/spells. Then there are the missions and regular quests that take more of your time. There is also the waiting around to get a PT organized. I'm guessing that if you play at a hardcore pace you can do that within a week.

72+ hours is without a sub, quests, or missions. Just straight leveling to 30. If you count all that other stuff in, then yeah it's gonna take you waaaay more time.

Again, this is in hours of play. Which doesn't count for eating, sleeping, working and other real life things.

I really had no idea what time frame we were looking at when I made this pole. So I just threw up some guesses. :p

Gil farming (for equipment) is definately a factor. But doing side quests was not part of what I am looking at. I am looking at it from the power gamer's perspective, where unless the quest item or gil return save as much time as the quest took to complete, then it's not worth doing. Also, I am not sure (haven't played) how necessary a subjob is pre-30, if it is something that is really quite necessary then it should definately be taken into consideration. But if it's just kind of nice... don't bother.

Thanks for the responses guys. 72+ hours of gaming isn't so bad, I am interested in some of the elite jobs which is why I am asking, I wanted to know how much time I would have to waste on a job I am not going to play (other than subbing).

Micah, for your first time playing this game, I would recommend you don't just power level to 30. Take your time and enjoy the game.

When I said 72+ hours, I am talking from a perspective of a gamer who is already familiar with the game. As for the sub job, it is not a necessity, but you'll find most players around level 20 will have a sub job. Depending on the sub job, it can be very helpful or just nice as you said. I know as a Black Mage that a sub job was such a necessity for me. Although I waited until level 25 to get it /slap Asharu

I have played through too many MMPGs and killed too many rats/rabbits to spend any more time than neccessary at low levels. I agree, that most players should take things slow and ease their way into the game, you will have the most fun that way. But I am the type of player that would rather power through to 30/40 (hating every minute of it) and then go exploring when I don't have to worry about dying, but there are still some things that are out of my reach (encouragement to get back to playing after I go exploring and make friends. ).

Maybe it's just that I have a problem, I can't quit MMPGs. So I just keep getting the next big one out there, powering through it and maxing out before the next one is released. One day I'll get help. For now, it's back to powerleveling!

Hey Micah, if you're interested in getting to a high level quickly, check out the other forum "Joining a hardcore LS". We can use as many hardcore players as we can find for the linkshell

Or accepted the Mhuara subjob quest.

Me: "You're lvl 24 with no subjob!?"
lvl24: "I was tricked into accepting the Mhuara quest."
                      Me: "D'oh!!"

I bet the person had that response macro'ed.

Btw, I think its closer to 72 of actual game time hours. Maybe less if you don't do missions or quests. But why the rush?

From what i have heard from people in beta, there are some places/encounters that can only be done when you are a certain level. Plus, you really cant do the Special jobs by yourself, so unless you are going to bribe people into helping you, that may be a problem too.

And honestly, if your tired of killing rabbits, etc etc, and starting over, then you really shouldnt be playing MMORPG's. Play a nice console game, get yourself a game shark or some cheat codes, and be uber in a minute. Otherwise, your really screwing yourself out of what it means to play a MMORPG. Ive been playing MMORPGS for over 5 years, and i can tell you that i havent had as much fun leveling since EQ was orginally released.

Add into that it seems FFXI has a sort of level based loot code, the higher level you are than the monster, the less loot you get. Honestly man, find a linkshell, some friends whatever, and just play to have fun. Chances are your all gonna get stuck 50+ when the xp per level really ramps up, and all need to start over once you get a special job anyway.

It'll take you waaaaaay longer if this is your first time playing FFXI and you weren't in beta.

Our characters may have been deleted in beta, but the knowledge on how to play hasn't, and let me tell you, that is an ENORMOUS edge. Not only that, people also probably know what main/sub idealy they are shooting for now.

But if this will be your first time playing, don't expect lvl 30 to happen overnight .

In beta after the Expac was given to ppl above LVL 40, i seen 3 or 4 ppl go from LVL 1-22 with there new jobs in less than 18 hours. But once they hit quifim it took them about another 2 days to get 30. But yeah if you just LVL you can get it pretty fast, escpeicially if you know where to lvl.
