learning this stuff takes a lot of paitence. This is one thign some people are deprived of, and sometimes even me. Learning how to model, you can do that with and 3dsmax book. For encrytption and cryptogrophy I HIGHLY recommend Applied Cryptography: Protocols, Algorithms and Source Code in C by B. Schneier. That book is a really handy guide which teaches a lot about cryptography. The only bad thing about the book is that it gets extremely complex later on. So complex that there are some stuff I'm still trying to figure out. For me this book iss very interesting, but I'm absolutley sure that you would find this book dull. Crytography is not really applied to game hacking unless you're talking about age of mythology which has a simple XOR encryption on their memory banks.

Now for the fun part. If you have a general idea of how computers work and how internet works, you should really get the book: Hacking Exposed Second Edition: Network Security Secrets & Solutions. This book reports basically a lot of famous doings by hackers and tells people how to defend against them. Of course this is also a haven for a person to fix their own mistakes. This book will help you understand the internet more, and possibly provide insight on how to hack online games. As for actualy game hacking, I go to a couple websites if I needed help. The best website for n00bs is http://gamehacking.com. This site has some awesome tutorials. Some tutorials are confusing because they expect that you know the basics of game hacking. The only way to be good at game hacking is to actually attempt it more. Most of the best game hacking secrets were never written down, and were passed on by word of mouth.

Game hacking is not based on a linear thought. Sometimes, the same hack can be approached from different angles, and thats what you need to get good at. You need to train your mind to think of different ways to approach a certain gooal (gold in a game for example). It's just like programing. People can make the same program using horrible coding, and then there are those who do it extremely simply. This is what defines the experts and the newbs.

gyuhh. . . i respect "hackors" for their knowledge and capabilities. .. but can't they realize that sure - earning urself quick levels or quick money is fun at first, but all n all ends up ruining the game or shortening the replay value. imo haxors who try to exploit a game in order to obtain somthing another way other than ligit are the definition of a "lamer" if you can't handle the game the way it was ment to be played? tough shyt - don't ruin it for those willing to put in the time and remain legit.

Reformed hackers make a ton of money, and are sought out by all corporations across the globe for their skill and knowledge... There's nothing more entertaining then reading a resume and the legitimate job description for that line of work, let me tell you.

I mean, if people can change mog into ifrit, I don't expect to see ifrit jump and dance around.
OK I can seee you have the game so you know the files and all that.

But the movement thing I was talking about were this.
If lets say you changed the model of an npc to one of your "Standing" darth vader.

And suddenly the server tells the NPC to walk and the animation movie is going to start, then there are no animation movie to use and probably the model would be floating but it could crash the game.

Anyway the reason why they did "hack" the moogle were because they wanted to see all the hidden chars in game which ppl werent allowed to see yet.

But if you can make Darth vader or any model be instead of you moogle I would very much appreciate to see that. (FFXI models does not count )

Then I would have no doubt and it should be fun to watch to.
(I understand if you dont want though due to the risk of being banned and all that but I am intrested really)

As for PSO...using a packet sniffer i see the packets are encrypted unlike ver1 and 2. FFXI will have ingame moderators and we all know if theres a cheat they will be informed somehow. and unlike sega sony is ontop of their games :D with that in mind lets allr emember that ffxi can be patched up unlike other console games and i think i lost train of thought and i cant sleep. good night.

You know what, if it weren't for hackers games wouldn't be safe at all. In fact, the people that develope the game can probably hack games, which is how they develope game security. If you don't know your enemy, you can't defend against them.

When items are dropped, they are lost forever. You can't just pick up items. Unless you are talking about rolling for items in a party.

i ment he could get an item from a monster or equip one. sorry about the pick up mistake:sweat: the guy lives in japan and my friend whent to see him last spring. i kind of hope its not true because i would hate hackers on ffxi i mean i hack on games when i beat them from time to time but i would never want to hack on an online game because i feel i hurts the other people who just want to play the game.

I seriously doubt that. That's a big hole that I doubt Square-Enix would miss.

did the guy that made odin's eye and show eq say he was going to try SWG and FFxi next? i mean their basicly the same programs just different information is sent. As long as you have another computer running linux on the same router as you play i don't see how they can stop all hacking.

The unfortunate fact of the matter is that no program, game or otherwise, is completly safe from hackers. If there's someone out there that wants to hack it bad enough, they're gonna be able to do it.

As some people of stated, hackers aren't all bad. If they find a potentially bad bug and report it, they're doing something good for the community. If they find a bug or loophole and decided to exploit it for their own benefit, that's not a good thing.

I remember there was a problem awhile back in Asheron's Call with people using a hack program called Gear. It somehow fooled the servers and allowed you to move extremly fast. It's also apprently been used in FPS type games, and in AC I believe it was mainly used by PKs. Needless to say, this was a big problem. The AC1 Devs were able to implement code to check for the use of Gear to help prevent this. I'm not sure if it's 100% effective, but I haven't heard much about people using Gear recently.

Anyway, my point is that there's no way to completly stop the insanely hardcore hackers. However, if it's made extremly difficult (which I'm sure most online games attempt to do now), it will hopefully discourage those hackers that are less obsessive about these things.
