  • Worldshifting: Ragnarok to New World

Whether or not to worldshift to the new server now is a tough decision for a lot of people. Here are the different scenarios that have been discussed:

1.) The worldshift right now will take people to the server that will eventually become the first official JP/NA server that NA players will begin to join October 28th with the NA PC release.

2.) This shift is too early. There could be another one closer to the NA PC release which will shift players to a brand new server created for the NA players to get started on.

3.) There will not be a shift to a server which NA players will start on.

It was my original idea that this server shift was too early. I thought that Square would create a brand new server where all of the new NA players would start out, but also new JP players could join too since Square says they want both on the same servers. I, myself, was planning on waiting until closer to the NA release date to see if there was another worldshift to this new world. My main reason for wanting to switch to a new server is that I want to create an HNM LS, which I have been planning for a long time. The decision would be much easier if Square would just tell us how they are going to handle the server situation when the english version is released. I think they may be waiting to see how many people actually shift to the new server during the current worldshift, and then if there is still plenty of space, they may let the english population join it. Regardless of what I think, I want people to look at what we know and make their own decisions. I have made this thread in order to help with some of the understanding so far, and also to list the names of the people who are definitely switching to give people a better idea of who they would be moving with if they left ragnarok on October 2nd.

    Alldo
    Mumm
    Sey
    Stryder
    Awntawn
Drako (maybe he really will this time  )
    meoto
    xuande
    sweetness
    ellone
    mithramage
    vcross

I am still undecided, as are some of my best friends in-game. If you are planning on moving, please state that you are. Please do not turn this thread into a flame war over anything. This is just to get an idea of who is moving. I know that Jei talked to a GM who could not give him all the answers he wanted, but I have a few more questions so I am emailing square.

Here are my and others' thoughts on what it would be like if we moved now: If there was a later shift to the new "mostly eng server," we would be able to shift from this new server to that one. The only real concerns about shifting to this new server now are that the economy could be bad for a while, and it might be difficult to find PTs depending upon what kinds of players switch. Also, if the server is not what you want it to be, and there is never another shift to the new "mostly eng server" and this new server doesn't become "the mostly eng server," you could feel like you're stuck. I'm becoming more inclined to just go for it and switch. The only thing holding me back is that I have a lot of friends on Ragnarok who are definitely not switching and I will miss them.

That should be enough for now. Let me know what you think, and if you are not on that list but plan on switching, post it. Please, make your own decisions based on what you want.

I just want to emphasize gatts' point that you need to make your own decision. Don't world shift because of someone else, your friends, what not. This is a serious decision, as serious as one can take a video game. You have to be determined that in the end, you are doing something you want to do and not something that everyone else is doing.

I hate to see some of those people go ...When you shift do you keep your items, character levels, and so forth?

The following was posted by me in strictly IN-game talk. I felt it important to repost here because I'm currently a citizen of Ragnarok, and some may not read topics in strictly IN-game talk. For those of you who might say I'm trying to discourage shifting, you might be right.

This post is to those of you who are switching because you believe: this is the world shift that will allow you to play the English version; this is the world shift that will allow you to play with all your non-importer friends; this is the world shift that will allow you to be super god like to all the new north american gamers; this is the world shift that will............

This is not it. Certain ideas on this forum have gained so much popularity that they have gone from idea to fact. There is no evidence that Square will provide a world shift so that Japanese players can switch to an English server. There is no evidence at all that there is even such a thing as an "English server" and respectively "Japanese server." Nobody here has any idea how Square is going to implement their vision of shared servers, so don't base your world shift on somebody's "idea."

This world shift should be taken for face value. Like in the past, Square has created new servers to switch to when population issues come up, and this is just the same. Do not assume anything, and certainly do not base decisions on said assumptions.
I apologize to everyone whom this was already obvious. To those it wasn't obvious, I hope I have helped you make your decision.

hehe...most of you wont see me in Rag Server anymore, that's cuz I shift to The World~ The Outside World

Why dont you just create a sub character and testing out by talk to the world shifter, and your friend do the same thing. If you 2 ended up in the same server, then maybe it's possible to shift your main character to the same server.

The world shift all happens at once during this weeks maintenance on wednesday, making it impossible to test. You just gotta have faith

I look forward to seeing you on the new server seishi

Ive been trying to find this out for a while now, does this mean that if i were to world shift now, it would take me to the new NA servers?

Or are the new servers gonna be designated for NA, and low lv characters only. It wouldn't be to great if you can move your lv 70 charcter to a new NA server with all low lv characters.

Other Names to include on the Going List:
                  Lemia
                  This is a ?gmaybe?h list:
                  Herodrink
                  Fureiya
                  Roaddog
                  Arvy
                  Blizzy

It has come to my attention that other LSs are now planning on doing a World Shift because they think EVERY other LS is as well. (Ex. The Confederation: ?gThe Council has decided that we are going to worldshift because all the other EN linkshells out there are as well?h) (this isn?ft exact text, just what I could remember what was said on our on our LS). This is NOT the case. As you can see from the list there are only about a LS size worth of people shifting out of about 6-7 LSs on Ragnarok. We are mostly moving because we are all getting bored of Ragnarok, hate importer politics, too much competition, can?ft get on the top, ect.
We would love for all the importers to come along as well but another main reason why we want to switch is because of the bad Reputation we have on Ragnarok. We don?ft want 20 new importers going around giving a bed rep to the importer name and turning the new server into another Ragnarok. I realize there has been a big flow of new importers lately because people want to get a head start for the NA. Please DO NOT World Shift because you want to be around all these high level ?guber?h players who you think will wipe your ass for you in power levels or helping you get your AF. (I know that was kind of harsh but I already know a lot of people are thinking about it.)
Our LS (Requiem) has decided to make a new LS when we shift over (name and color are pending). If like 8 random people from The Confederation or another LS randomly ask to get in the LS and we don?ft know you, you?fll most likely not get in. We want to keep the LS like a close group of friends like the old Evil LS. Personally I think it would be best if all the importers on the new server are on one LS, but if multiple LSs shift over then we?fre just gonna have to be separate like we are now. The new LS list follows:

                  Alldo (war)
                  Mumm (blm)
                  Sey (thf)
                  Stryder (pld)
                  Awntawn (drk)
                  Drako (pld, drg, bst)
                  Meoto (bst)
                  Xuande (drk, brd)
                  Sweetness (bst)
                  Vcross (pld)
                  Herodrink (drk)
                  Roaddog (rdm)
                  Arvy (blm)
                  Blizzy (whm)
                  Lemia (drk)

So far this is our definite LS. We?fre most likely going to keep the member cap of 20 members as much as possible. So we?fll leave room for like 5 friends. I know Vcross has a friend and stuff. And we think Fureiya might switch with us as well. Anyways, we?fre just letting all the Rag people about what?fs happening. I?fll miss a lot of people myself who aren?ft going to shift. People like: Zoey, Aseuk, Atrox, ect. People I use to know back in the NeoG days. I?fm gonna keep a storage character on Rag so I can pop in and say hi and stuff :p

Sey you raise a very good point, one I hadn't thought of before. It makes me think that yes, this some I should do. I would transfer my main plus my mule to The New World, leave one behind. I'm sure I'd like to shift, but how bout getting into dat LS. I don't wanna start on a new server friend-less.

You really think they will add only one server to these new shifts? I don't know 100% but i'm fairly sure that in the past there has never been only one server created when this sort of thing happens and, seeing as they're moving people out of the two most populated servers plus giving the option to everyone else, just one wouldn't be enough. Remember, you do not get a choice so if you are whisked off to some new server without any stable economy to fall back on and only a handful of people incapable of bringing down the big guns you are in trouble.

As Xuande said make sure you have thought your decision through before commiting to this as there is no going back if things go wrong. Theres a few people on that list I would be genuinly sad to see go so to think of them stranded on a shitty server if this backfires would be horrible.
