  • Hug meh!...I mean..New player?

Heya guys. Gonna be joining ya'll in Vana'Diel pretty soon, getting the game for xmas ^_^

Just thought I'd join a forum to get some advice about the game before I even started, so why not ask the experts (thats you guys)

But anyway, I'm thinking about a Blackmage TaruTaru? No idea about server though thats where you guys come in xD.

Well look forward to hearing from you.

Unless you get a World Pass, you cannot choose what server you go on. Although unless you know somebody in game already and want to be on the same server you might as well just let it choose for you. They are all roughly the same.

A Black mage taru sounds good. A good match of both job and race, though later you'll learn that race does not come into it as much as long as you have the right gear and skill.

Nothing really to advise, except have a good time and ask here if you get any problems. Oh actually 2 things I would advise:

    1. Choose Windurst as your Home City. You'll get the Nation Ring as a result which boosts certain stats. I mean, you could choose otherwise, but why not?

    2. Look for a linkshell. This is like a guild where only people that the creator invites can be in. They will (or should) offer you great help in game and gets your a friend base going quickly in-game)

Thanks very much dude, really appreciate it. It chooses a server for you? Cuts out all the fuss I guess.

Been playing World Of Warcraft up until recently, I've got quite a bit of experiance with MMOs. But Final Fantasy XI just looks like it has that bit extra than most MMOs. Really looking forward to it.

Well FFXI is definitely a less forgiving experience than WoW. Most of the things you're gonna wanna do, you're gonna need a party to do it. But if you can get the hang of that and if you're a social type of guy you have a good chance of having a great experience with the game.

Good to see you and welcome to the game ^^ I'll hug you when I'm sure you'll be around for more than 30 days. :p

Hehe....30 days? I have to wait that long!? It better be a worthwhile hug if I have to wait as much as 30 days.

I'll let you all know about my character details and such when I actually start playing the game.

See you on the otherside ^^

              Re: Hug meh!...I mean..New player?

Welcome to FFXI, as well as our forums here at FFXIOnline.com - Dreams in Vana'diel!

Letting the system pick your server if you're new is a good idea. The system prefers to place new players on less populated servers, which means that more new players will be on your server if you let it pick for you (and thus more opportunities to make friends).

If you already know someone who is playing, then you can choose to World Pass onto a server instead - this is a code that lets you force character creation on a specific server. The World Pass code is purchased with in-game currency (gil) by a player on the server you want.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask them. That's why we're all here - to share knowledge and learn. A lot of questions can be answered just by checking the sticky posts in each subforum, or by using the Search function (at the top of this page). However, if you need more specific information, don't hesitate to ask.

Just a quick question, I mean the jobs to me seemed fairly easy. Until I clicked on some of the members character information.

I mean, how many jobs can you have? Can you have levels in them all?

Because in all honesty it's got me quite baffled. Sorry if this is a silly question.

                  Re: Hug meh!...I mean..New player?

unlike every other mmorpg, you are not set as one job in ffxi. you can conceivably level every job on your one char.

oh and welcome to dreams in vanadiel

                  Thanks Yyg!

                    Re: Hug meh!...I mean..New player?

And then you get into subjobs as well, where at Level 18 you have to ability through the compleetion of a quest to be given the ability to have 2 jobs at once.

The second job operates at half your main job level, etc etc....Ill wont go into too much here but yes, jobs are not just straight forward 1 job per 1 char!!

                      Re: Hug meh!...I mean..New player?

Yeah you can lvl all these jobs well the starting jobs wich will be WAR, MNK, WHM, BLM, RDM and THF. You can change to any job you like at any given time by you being in your moghouse that is. When you reach lvl 18 you'll be able to unlock your Subjob trait...and when you get to lvl 30 you get a chance to open up an array of other advanced jobs.

Dragoon, Beast Master, Samurai, Ninja, Summoner, Dark Knight, Puppet Master, Blue Mage and Corsiar. (For the last 3 jobs assuming you are getting the Vana collection `07 so you'll have treasures of Aht Urghan)

All are great jobs. One thing i owuld recomend...lvl a starting jobs past lvl 37 so you have some basic gameplay and mechanics of a party. Observe everyone in your party. It also helps to know how other jobs work so you can anticapate well balanced parties from begining to end.

I'm guessing you're going for a mage role. just make sure when you nuke/heal you stay a good distance from the party due to AOE attacks and Aggro from over nuking/healing so the mob will have a long delay from getting to you so the tanks can get hate back.

Yag drinks and ginger cookies are your friends.

                        Re: Hug meh!...I mean..New player?

Also to add...as a new player you'll have a tough time raising gil to support your job. Make sure when you first go out to lvl get signet! you gain points for every XP you gain that you can use towards gear sold by the gate guards then in return you can sell for gear on the AH or NPC. just remember weapons will sell for more sold to a weapons NPC, armour will sell for more to an armour shop and any spells ou pick up from beastmen you can sell to the magic shops.

                        Some extra points>>
Save crystals you get from mobs to start a craft or sell the stacks on the AH or Bazzar them.
save any type of seeds you get off of plant type mobs to use later for gardening or sale on AH.
Always have signet up to collect more points to buy other equips and sell to NPC or AH.
Make time to farm! your gear will depend on it! lol
If you ever find your way to The fariy server give Malevolentemper a /tell i'll teach you the ways of gardening elemental ores. AND WE'LL MAKE MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS!!! MUHAAAAA!!! to start gardening right you roughly need about 600k just to give you an idea.
