That would be Senior Airman he has on his sleeve (sportin the oh so comfy new ABUs), so he's Air Force.

What base you out of Cot, if you don't mind me askin, and AFSC? I just recently started ALS myself, and it's already been rather interesting (and laden with homework).

The official line is 2W1X1, Aircraft Armament System Specialist (the "X" can stand in for either 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9, the different types of skill levels inherent to the Air Force Specialty Code [AFSC] system; the higher the number, the more skilled a person is, to put it in the most basic of terms), but the layman's terms are Weapons Load Crew Member, or Load Toad for short. I load missiles, bombs, ammo, and other munitions on aircraft so the pilots can "put steel on target."

My day is mainly filled with launching jets, recovering jets, and replinishing expendables such as chaff, flare, impulse cartridges, and argon for AIM-9 L/M missiles. Other duties I can perform involve the down/uploading of munitions from/to aircraft, maintenance of armament systems (to include, but not limited to, launcher rails, munition stations, wire components, and the Stores Management System computer, depending on aircraft and model), and troubleshooting said components.

The pictures of me in the desert-like setting were taken at Nellis AFB, Nevada. They were taken at End of Runway (EoR), another task of a Weapons troop. Aircraft come to EoR to be armed (as well as inspected by Crew Chiefs and Specialists for any defects) just before they take off, and when they land, they come back to EoR so we can check for hot brakes and to dearm the jet if needed.

It's one of the three main jobs that get the jets in the air, the other two being Crew Chiefs (airframe, propulsion, and engine/enviornmental systems) and Specialists (mainly aircraft avionics and computer systems). Long hours and difficult work all around, but tasks needed for the mission.
