  • How do I use the TOAU classes?

    Here's a funny story:

I bought FFXI for PS2 (came with the Rise expansion), then purchased the TOAU expansion. Turns out I needed CoP too, so I ordered it from buy.com and almost a month since ordering it I got it today.

This whole time I didn't bother to play because I figured I could jump right into the new classes, but now I can't choose them...

I'm guessing I have to get one of the default classes up to like level 30 before being able to use them?

If so, boy does that make me wanna quit. I wouldn't quit though because after you drop over $150 bucks into something it's pretty stupid to just not use it.

Right now I'm using my level 8 warrior, highest I got. Used to play on PC a long time ago but I forgot the account info so that's in the past. I'm also on the Fairy server with no friends and the linkshell I'm in, well I think I'm now the only one.

Anyone else play on Fairy, or could someone get me a world pass to a server where people actually team? Or could you tell me how to be a freaking pirate?

This game's emptied my pockets and annoyed me horribly, but even with all the crap it's still fun.

Yeah, the ToAU jobs are advanced jobs like Paladin and Ninja, so you need to get another job to 30 and do a quest before you can use them. Don't worry though, you can probably accomplish that in a week, maybe a week and a half if you play seriously.

Serious in the context taskmage used it - if you dont have work / school / family and friends to deal with. thats the only way you can do it in 1 to 2 weeks your first time through. atleast if you want to make it fun. just expect the game to take forever. then it wont be such a surprise when it does.

It'd be nice to have a linkshell with more members than just me, I'm sure that'd make things easier.

Thanks for the help though, but at this rate I'll be level 30 at around the time the FFXI servers are taken offline.

Yeah, you're probably right. I could probably level a job to 18 and another job to 30 in 10-12 evenings now, now that I know what I'm doing and know some good players. For the first time, I guess that probably isn't realistic.

I could do it, all I need to do is find some people. Well then there is my really bad attention span...

Task you think you could get me onto your server? Like I said I used to play a long time ago and I did manage to get to somewhere around level 20.

Plus I'm awesome at all video games, whether I've played them for a long time or five minutes. :D (Exceptions are expected)

My laptop battery is going dead! It's at 28% so I'll let it run down a bit more while I wait for a reply.

note that ffxi is not the game for instant gratification. it does take more patience and time than other mmo's. once you get into the swing of things, it wont be such a chore anymore. sorta.

Sure, I could get your a worldpass and a linkpearl if you want. Not a very big ls at all, but there's some helpful, experienced players and a few new players.

You know that a worldpass doesn't transfer an existing character, but just lets you make a new one on the new server, right?

Omni- I know what you mean, and I do like to work for things, so that's why I like this game.

Task- Yeah, I'll just delete this character and move over to your server. I got 30,000 gil and stuff, but it isn't that much anyway. Just gotta do some fishin' and I'll get it back in no time. XD

I'm a sackholder for an LS on Ragnarok that is currently recruiting and has members of all levels, located around the world. I could get you a world pass if you want while you haven't put much time into your current character.

Every job that you don't start with must be earned from a quest that you can only start with a minimum job level of 30. It's been that way for four years and they're not going to change it. The starting jobs teach you a lot of the basics anyway.

Task just sent me a pass but thanks for the offer.

Yeah, I just hate the fact I have to get to 30 just to then either abandon the class or sub it. I'll more than likely sub it, that way it isn't a complete waste.

Not sure why you'd want to play a MMORPG if you have a short attention span. FFXI in particular requires extended play to get to the really good stuff - if the thought of spending 3-4 continuous hours or more on one task horrifies you, you might consider just stopping now.
