You can also skip step 2 by right clicking at the FFXI title screen, and selecting "Log out".

That only leaves steps 1, 6, and 7.

      This doesn't work.

Step 2 is the full-screen FFXI title (showing flybys of various locations, including crags) that allows you to Select Character, Create Character, Delete Character, or go Back. Right-clicking at this screen does nothing.

You're talking about right-clicking at the windowed POL FFXI screen; the one that has the little moogle in the corner asking if it's your first time in Vana'diel, etc. This is step 3, and as has been noted, you can hit F11 or mouse to the upper right and select Log Out, for the same results you're talking about.

If you didnt create new macros or anything else that is PC side, you can use Windows Key or Ctrl+Alt+Del like I do. However if it is server side it does not matter how you log off.

I would discourage logging off with the windows key or ctrl-alt-del while still actually in game...I lost a character in beta due to messed up logout...nobody wants to lose their character...
Ending task on POL after FFXI app is closed is probably much safer.. considering allc haracter information is put away and won't be touched til you start the FFXI app again..

I run the POL in windowed mode... and as such, POL is practically never off.. I can run other games while POL is running, and do whatever.. *shrug*

The entire POL system was set up originally for those that play through the PS2.

Since the PS2 doesn't have an operating system that allows emails, pictures and other features, Square decided to include these for the benefit of the player.

That being said, most people who are playing the NA version have their own computers and operating systems with the same features already in place. POL is therefore extremely redundant in this case.

I personally think that they should add a "quick start" feature of some sort that lets you log into the game directly from Windows. Logging out would put you back directly in Windows.

What are the odds though that they will spend the money to implement this feature? Next to 0. Is forcing the playerbase to go through an extra 3 minutes of useless menu's worth the thousands of dollars spent to develop more code? Again, probably not.

It was nice of Square to include POL for everyone, but if I had the choice, I would've said no thanks. I already have 3 email address and I don't really need another.

Everquest used to (don't think they have it anymore, kinda died in a patch a year back or so) have a way you can log out all the way to the desktop simply by going "/camp desktop" or something like that. You still had the 30 second camp-out time, but it clicked you right to the desktop, instead of the log-in screen.

Don't see why FFXI couldn't do the same thing. Maybe if a lot of people request something like that to the dev's they might put it in? Don't know how responsive FFXI dev's are to there costumers. (I come from EQ where they simply don't care...)
