How exactly do you port?

I tried a search on the website, but either I looked up the wrong words, or no one really explained.

I'm completely lost on how to port one race to another. I've seen people do it, but I never could figure out how. The most I can do on VRS is combine same-race models into interesting combinations. So how does one port one thing (say, mithra) to another (say, Elvaan female)?

I figured it'd all about the skeletons, but I still can't figure it out x.x can anyone explain, or guide me, to a sort of 'walkthrough' about it?

Weapons are easy.

Armor ranges from 'inconvenient' to 'excrutiating'. You have to modify the skeletal weights for each body segment within the piece using VRS, of which I've seen up to 9 marked ones alone (excrutiating), and then readjust the texture to fit (inconvenient).
