^^^Is it harder for a white mage to level up a guild than, say, a warrior? ^^^

Does it matter what guild a white mage is in if it is harder or easier? what guild do you think, if there is one, that is best for a white mage?

    Thanks to all who post.

No job has an advantage at any guilds... However some guilds are more useful to some jobs than others... For White Mage, a good guild to level is Weaving (you can make tunics, robes, etc...).

The only craft I think white mages have a definite advantage in is Fishing. Due to the requirement to travel all over Van'adiel to reach fishing spots, a white mage with a full complement of Teleport spells can significantly cut down on the time spent without spending money (other jobs can, of course, use the teleportation service to outposts, but that can be very pricy).

The only job that really has an advantage in crafts is THF - because crafting needs either money, or items obtained from monsters, both of which thieves are better at getting.

Expensive jobs (RNG, NIN, mages) have a slight handicap but not much of one.

WHM has advantage over warrior in most of the guild once your job is high level enough. Here's why:

            1. Port - you have fast travel ability to different towns/guilds to sell your stuff. Some items goldsmithing guild won't buy in Bastok but they'll buy in Mhaura.

            2. Invis, reraise, sneak - This one is especially nice if you are a 75 whm and mining in Ifrit. When other people died, they have to release and take 30 minutes to come back. When a whm dies, just wait till the mob moves, reraise then continues.

            3. Easier access to most of the vendors cuz #1. If I want something from Kahzam, if I don't want to bother my friends or ls who happens to be there, I have to take the airship from bastok to jeuno to kahzam (I normally bind in Bastok due to alchemy guild). But if I was a whm, I can just port myself over then warp back once I am done.

            4. Farming: elementals - mage job wins anyday. Fighting monsters depends on what kind you'll be fighting, but most of the time with Hexa Strike, whm > pld - assuming it's no xp mobs of course.

Um, actually, crafting skill is almost required for rng and nin for different reasons.

Anyone with nin and their main or sub needs shihei, and being dependant on AH supplies of shihei is a major pain in the ass. Nin will also want to be able to make other tools for themselves, along with shuriken(if they go for that sort of thing).

Rng will want high woodworking to make their own bolts/arrows or high alchemy to make their own bullets.

That being said, I thnk it is most accurate to state that expensive jobs such as rng and nin have a significant handicap if they DON'T invest in crafting.

It's true that rng and nin have a greater need to craft - but they also have to work more to do it, because they have the expenses of their job (even if you can craft your own tools/arrows you still pay nearly as much for materials) *and* the expenses of crafting (raising your skill - in multiple crafts if you intend to make all your own ninja tools).

Fortunately both are advanced jobs, and anything 30+ can farm at least somewhat.

Having tried to craft at low job levels, I would now advise against it (except for very simple recipes like lumber, sheep leather, or breaking down yagudo necklaces). It's just too expensive to raise craft skills to any significant level unless you have a high level job to farm tens or hundreds of thousands of gil. Furthermore you will need gobbiebag and mog safe quests (which are also expensive) so that you can carry and store synthesis materials, and bring back more loot when you do go out to farm. And you will want Treasure Hunter regardless of whether you are farming your materials directly or farming stuff to sell for the cash to buy them - getting Treasure Hunter as a sub requires that your main be 30+.

All jobs will probably want to level crafts for one reason or another. What helps the most is being higher level to farm and having some means of getting at least some gil or materials because crafting will be an investment. If you're higher level and have some start up capital that you can use without having to worry as much about basic spells and equipment, you can level a craft much faster for the time you put in. But people have their own comfort zones and style of leveling anything. ^^ So have fun with it and don't get discouraged. ^^

THF = the money making class. You must sub a lv15 thf to farm, else you're in for a much lower drop rate for the time you put in. MUCH lower. THF sub is given up grudgingly usually only for the ability to even find the mob (such as Elementals, they always drop clusters anyways), or you need to pull fast, such as with provoke, or if you're not farming at all (AKA mining/logging). Even then, flee is great.

In all the crafts, there's SOME small profit to be made along the way. Usually crafting materials that higher level crafters need such as various ingots, leathers, bait, lumber, etc. So if you're a lower level, and say you mine in Zehrun, you can level til you can make ingots and make a bit more profit from your mining and save on inventory space, and then stay at that level making a bit of profit until you can afford to move on.

Keep in mind it's good to level any/all the crafts to some level and you don't have to make a commitment to one craft until 60+. Most crafts need others as high level sub crafts anyways, or need materials from other crafts (example: woodworking arrows need clothcraft fletchings), so it's not a loss if you change your mind later. ^^
                  I am still a noob. T_T

No. Job does not effect skill gains for any craft. So there is no good job for crafting.

Yes, there are jobs that farm better than others, so if you want to farm your ingredients or your crystals, the job does matter. WHM is not really a good farmer, at least in the lower levels. Either way, you'd need thief.

If you want to do goldsmithing/blacksmithing, and want to mine your own adamant ore (which will take a long time before you can use it), then yes, WHM may be better because of reraise and invis/sneak in the Cauldron. But that's only for those two crafts, and only if you want to mine that ore.

Farming: elementals - mage job wins anyday.
Uhh...what does the white mage use? Banish? I was surprised to find that my lvl 30 ranger was much more effective in killing elementals than my lvl 30 red mage.

Melee dmg are weak against elementals. So mages are better of killing those unless the elementals are very low level.

Whm - banishga, holy, + blm sub with blm spells => dead elementals

                        4 arrows=dead elemental.

Whatever, both work fine, just saying that mages do not "win any day."

Hunting Elementals to make money with arrows/bolts/bullets that cost money is rather counterproductive, don't you think? That and it only works on a few elementals in the weaker regions... high level elementals have very serious damage resistance.

The only melee job that can consistently win faster than a mage against a the tougher elementals is maybe Dark Knight (and I dare any melee to try and farm Dark Elementals that cast Bio III. Go on, try it... =P )

For farming, I'll take BST over any other job... Those jug pets hit very hard, plus you don't take any damage...
