  • Goldsmithing - why??

The materials cost alot, i fail most of the time, and when i do succeed in making something, it doesnt raise my skill much

im lvl3 Goldsmith, im makin brass ingots and sheets which are supposed to be for 3 - 10, and when i succeed in making them, it only raises my skill by 0.1, and only once every 4-5 ingots, which is costing ALOT, and i doing something wrong? and if its normal, then will this pay off when my skill is higher later on?

thanks in advance for any help

    Crafting

Crafting in general doesnt pay at earlier levels. I have been breakin my hump w/ cooking and am up to lvl 17. I have yet to turn a profit, but as soon as I can make insect balls I will be ok ). You just need to realize that you are going to spend a lot of cash before you start making profit.

Fireslash, you can improve you chance of success if you do all your fire crystal synthesis on firesday, and if you keep advanced image support from the guild active at ALL times. Yes, I am referring to the one that requires a donation(30 gil at your skill level). The money is worth it.

On a side note, brass ingots alone should get you to 4 skill. You should stockpile the ingots and make them into sheets once you get to skill 4, and then convert all the sheets into scales once you hit skill 6. Scales SHOULD get you up to 10 skill(don't forget to take the test at skill 8).

Also, if you have a workbench in your mog house, that can add another small amount of chance to success, but it's rather insignificant, and you don't need it. Low level crafting is almost always lossy, in that you will not see a return on your investment. However, it's usually rather simple. On average, you should also expect to see one point of skill increase per 12 synths. This will vary, of course, and getting a lot of failures may stunt your growth unless you're trying a very difficult synth.

one point per 12 synth??!? You are doing something wrong if thats how often you are raising your skills. Chance are you are doing something a little too advanced for your level. For levels 0 to 2 I did copper ingots then brass from then on and I was getting at least one point every 1 out of 2 or 3 synths.

i think he misunderstood and thot drmrlordx meant getting only 0.1 skill pts per 12 synth. what he meant to say was you should gain 1 entire skill pt on avg with 12 synth.

If you mean he was getting one Skill LEVEL per 12 synths then yeah that makes sense.

Oh and Chezgod reread my post... you obviously misunderstood me. When I say point I mean 0.1 point towards the next level of crafting
