  • Fishing: Power Level 0-10

hi im a lvl 34 drg kinda getting bored of lvling wanted to try soemthing new so i wanna rasie my fishing skill to lvl 10. Im from bastok so areas around bastok would really help. Basicly if you were starting over again and you were going to power level your
skill what would be the best process to geting to lvl 10 from lvl 0. Since im lvl 34 i got a shit load of gil to burn so expensive rods/bait are not a problem (as long as they dont cost over 5k)

so please somone enlighten me on how to raise my skill 0-10 quickly/most efficently

No such thing as "Fast" leveling for fishing skill.. If there is, someone please spill!

I've fished for over 10 hours now and i'm at skill level 3 =/

I don't mean to hijack your thread Deanx, But I have another quick question I can't find a straight answer on, and didn't really feel the forum needed another "Fishing Question!" thread.

        Fishing +1 Clothing.

Ok, lets say I have a fishing skill of 7, and I'm wearing fishing gloves, boots, shirt, and pants for a total of 11 fishing skill.

I'm fishing Bastore Sardine which has a skill cap of 10. Does this mean I can't gain skill off them anymore? My real fishing skill is only 7, but with the clothing my skill is at 11.. Which number counts?

        Thanks!

          wrong idea

ok mabey i worded this wrong "Power Level" may be not the right term what i really mean is what is the most "efficent way" of leveling your fishing skill

what rods you should buy at every level you from 1-10
what bait/fish/are you should fish that would be the best each levels 1-10

basicly im asking one of the really good fishers to shed his knowledge and help us noobs with an indepth post. Not half ass lvl 3 fishers saying you CANT do this post with really no information

Hint* maybey a forum moderator should make a new thread for a fishing guide like they did with the Dragoon guide, it was really helpfull ^_^

please somone post some decent info and help out us out

While we are on the topic, anyone know why I broke my Glass Fiber Rod fishing in Sandoria Port using insect balls as bait? I thought this rod is suppose to handle large fish and rusty items. What the heck took the bite? Sandoria Port has fresh water by the way, only caught small fish like crayfish, moat carp and tricolored carp.

Vulcan4d: As far as I know, glass rods will break fishing up rusty items. It's only the fishing rods made for catching large fish that will not break due to rusty times. The only large fish that I know of in Port San d'Oria is the Giant Catfish, which cannot be caught with Insect Balls. With that information, I'd have to guess it was simply a rusty item that broke your rod.

Deanx: Getting from 1-11 in fishing is fairly easy since you can do it all at the same location using the same rod/bait. Simply grab either a carbon/mithran/composite rod and use either little worms or insect balls and fish anywhere that moat carp can be caught. Moat Carp have a soft skill cap of 11 so you'll gain skill raises up to that point.

              or

Grab a carbon/mithran/composite rod and use either a Sabiki Rig or Lugworms at various saltwater locations like Selbina. This will allow you to catch Bastore Sardines, Quus, Yellow Globes and Greedies.

I thought full moon is nice for big fish, no? small fish best when there's no moon

Fastwater has almost 0% chance of breaking with sabiki. It only works in salt water though. I'm at skill L9 now and soon I won't be able to gain skill from bastore sardines, so I really don't know what to do next.

I broke seven fastwater poles with a sabiki before I hit 5 in skill. I was fishing in various places in and around Balstok.

I'm too durn lazy to keep buying insect balls, is there a rig I can pair with the mithran rod to catch moat carp in port san? The sabiki won't work, will it?

To throw my $.02 at Deanx, I've read in several places that you want to hit saltwater with a mithran/sabiki and tag sardines to your heart's content.

Nope...I haven't seen or heard of being able to catch Moat Carps with anything other then insect balls. If you level up your Alchemy a bit, you can make your own Insect Balls pretty cheaply. Well...i'm guessing it's cheap anyway. Because this one time I was fishing for moat carp, this japanese player was fishing as well. He made a bunch of Insect Balls and put some up on the Bazaar for 18 gil per ball. That's 216 gil per stack instead of 300. I doubt he'd put it up, if he wasn't making any profit from it.
