  • Latent effect and Garrison effect items. How do they work?

So I was snooping around the auction house to see if I should buy/upgrade some armor since I had just some some things and had a bit of gil on me. I noticed these level 51 earrings that had this

Garrison effect : Adds "Refresh" effect.

So I thought to myself "How come i've never seen anyone use em"? I'm not that knowledgeable about Garrison, but I thoght for what it was, it was capped at 20? How would these 51 earrings work? o.o?

Another thing, latent effect. How does this work? Someone told me it was based on your subjob, but I didn't really understant to what he was getting at (he really didn't know either). Their are some earrings, or rings (I'm not really sure) that are Attack Magic +something. How does that work? o.0?

Thank you for any info that may come :3

From what understand the latent effec kicks in when your health is in the yellow or worse.

I've heard that before, but then how would the wrestlers earrings with a latent effect of plus 50hp work?

You need a certain job as your support for those earrings to work. Wrestler earrings activate when you have monk sub.

Ok, that makes sense, certain jobs will trigger certain latent effects.

Anyone know the subjob that triggers the Sorrecer's Ring that has a latent effect of +10 attack magic? I read somewhere that it kicks in when you're yellow health, which is fairly stupid considering that when you're that low in health, you really don't wanna piss the monster off even more

The set of level 30 earrings are subjob related, but that rule is not exclusive to all latent effects. There are a lot of different types which include hp yellow/red type, the rune stuff just needs to be in battle mode(like weapon drawn), you just gotta figure em out or find someone that knows for sure.

The quickest way to find out what subjob you need for the lv30 earrings is to look at the corresponding lv70 job specific earring. The matching earring is for one job only, and that would be the one you have to sub. The lv70 earrings are arranged in a specific order on the list, and it is the same for the lv30s.

All the level 30 items (capes/belts/earrings) can be activated by the proper corresponding subjob.

However, I have also been informed that all of them can also activate like normal latent effects (TP < 100%, HP Yellow).

So "HP+30" is going to come into effect when your hp comes below half? Makes tons of sense doesn't it.

There are other latent effect items that work completely different than what other people have mentioned so far.

                        Melody Earrings
                        Latent effect: Evasion Skill +5
Trigger: One or more bard songs active on wearer, hence the name

                        Save the Queen
                        Cover+1
                        Latent effect: Accuracy+20
Trigger: Cover someone, hence the cover+1 and kinda the name.

                        Enhancing Sword
                        Magic sword damage+5
                        Latent effect: Acc+8 attack+16
Trigger: Use a sword enhancement spell, like enfire, hence the "enhancing" name and the magic sword dmg+5.

                        All "Rune" Weapons
Latent Effect: Various things, look them up yourself i dont want to list them all
Trigger: Draw weapon, drains MP at 4mp/3secs, stays active till you run out of mp.

Those are just a few examples i can think of off the top of my head. There are other ones im sure.

Point being, latent effect just means you need to trigger it. Often times, the trigger hinted by other various stats on the item and hinted by the name of the item even. But you can usually guess that if there are various items all the same lvl with similar names and a running theme, that the trigger for them all will be the same.
