  • Weapons Classifications questions

Hey everyone I have a question, hope you have an answer

By now I think everyone has heard about "blunt" and "piercing" weapons, how they are weak/strong vs bones and etc...

What I was wondering is if thats the only 2 types of classifications...
I have heard "Slashing" b4, but I'm not entirely sure about it.

what are they weak and strong vs... (blunt strong vs bones weak vs ???, piercing Strong vs Flying mobs Weak vs bones... etc...)

    what would Axe/greataxe?

If anyone has any concreat info info in this matter, your help would be greatly appreciated.

I remembering seeing this site that was mostly in JP, it had alot of mobs, their WS, weaknesses, etc. I remember only seeing 2 types of offensive weaknesses listed, stab and beat. Perhaps it is the only 2 classifications that exist, or that is known to exist.

After the 8 element columns (é—‡ / dark is last), the next 3 columns are by weapon type.

       = piercing
_打 = punching (oh great, 1st kanji doesn't show on FFXIO)
      ä»– = others

      in each column:
      〇 means effective (weakness)
â–² means ineffective (dmg 25% down)
X means useless (dmg 50% down)

the above resources are very useful, but I would like to point out that it does not show 'the whole story'

there are some other factors involved pertaining to the individual classification of different weapons, even among the same weapon type

          example:

two swords I recently experimented with

          level 55 Royal Knight's Fleuret
          level 55 Wise Wizard's Anelace

the Fleuret looks like a rapier, and the Anelace a broad sword, testing was conducted on very weak (30-50 levels below me) bone type enemies by my Rdm (so we're looking at 45ish Str and 240ish Attack)

normal peak potential damage (essentially just a critical hit on something weak) by either sword is 100-120 damage, yet the Fleuret caps at around 50-60 damage and the Anelace at 80-90 when fighting bones

this data fits in very nicely with the 25% and 50% damage modifiers presented in the Vana'Diel Monsters table

therefore I've concluded that even among some weapon types, there are different classifications and damage modifiers applied to them

however, there is no evidence to sugget that different Hand To Hand weapons (knuckles, claws, hooks, katars) have different damage modifiers against specific enemy types (against bones, at least) according to reports by several Monks

if anyone can confirm or deny this theory I'd appreciate it :spin:

Wow THX guys, thats quite useful.

Althought I still think this system is still very primitive, at least now I know how it works better =D

Thx for the info, and if you have any more info keep on posting
