  • PS2 buttons

    After playing FFXI for almost 2 years and jp PS,PS2 for almost 10 years X=cancel and O=action is just second nature and no matter how hard i try i cant seem to break it. Unfortunetly the US PS2 ver has those commands reversed.

    Hoping someone could suggest a hardware solution that will map buttons or maybe point out something i missed in the config. I was really looking forward to being able to play in english with the PS2 (i have both clients for PC but really, really hate playing on PC) Thanks.

    X = Action
    O= Cancel

    Its always been that way for me.. and thats how i have the controls setup on my pc version. Sorry, but I cant help ya out with the config unless its in the same place it is on the PC.

      The controls don't seem able to be changed for the PS2 version.

      I have no idea why they even started swapping the function of those buttons in the first place. I have a similar problem when I switch between my Japanese and NA games, and then there's the occasional NA game without the switch, like Xenosaga.

        Now this explains why my brother was such a bonehead. US PS2 had a different button configuration from Japanese PS2. I was so angry with him yesterday for being a moron:sweat:

          I thought O was always confirm for FF games, not just JP. I can't remember FF7/8, and the last version I played of FFX was the international. :/

                FFVII and Tactics used Circle as Accept and X as Cancel. Once VIII came out, they started switching it. FFIV and FFVI on SNES used A as Accept and B as Cancel, which correspond to the Circle and X button positions, respectively. So many people I know got a PlayStation after having a SNES for years and were used to A being Accept, so I don't see why SCEA and other NA companies started using X as Accept instead...

                      At least in other FF titles on the PS2, we were able to change the button mapping. What's the deal? We can't rearrange our button mappings on the PS2?

                      At least I can do it on my PC version.

                      I was just hoping that in my downtime between finding PT's I could play my other character on my PS2. But it's tough for me to switch back and forth because I have my PC's PS2 controller button mapping set for JP style (X=cancel, O=accept) ><

                      So I'm also looking for a solution here. Maybe the solution would be to ask for this feature in the next patch for FFXI.

                        I went to PlayOnline's web site and submitted a comment/suggestion about giving PS2 players the ability to re-map the gamepad buttons if they desire.
