  • The tab menu shouts have to stop

same with the tab menu cries for help

    >> (‚±‚ñ‚É‚¿‚Í?B)
    >> (?•‚¯‚Ä?I?I?I) (ˆÃ?•‚Ì‹RŽm) (ƒA?[ƒeƒBƒtƒ@ƒNƒg) 3 & (ŒÀŠE) 3 (ƒIƒYƒgƒ?ƒWƒƒ?é) ^^

    /blist add

Seriously, they make absolutely no sense, and the only reason why people know what you want is because they're been used 20000 times a day. Any shout like this is obviously an attempt at asking higher level Japanese players for a free joy ride.

What do you do then? Shout in English. Any Japanese player who is fond of NA's and is willing to help will respond to an NA shout. They know location names from zoning, they appear in English. The job names are in English in the character selection menu. The letters AF are universal. Shout in English. That way at least SOME people will know what you're doing. Do stuff when you're ready to do it, not 20 levels before, so that other people exactly the same as you who want the same thing can group together and do it WITH you... without the need for a guiding hand of god 1-shotting everything in the way for you.

Also, don't /sea region 70<75 and start doing tells down the list. Just don't.

Mooching is bad. Moochers suck forever. Shout right, do it right, and people will respect you. Until then, everyone will look down on you as moochers who can't do anything yourselves.

And if you're not one of these tab menu moochers, fear not. I'm not stereotyping you with them. This message simply is not for you then.

I saw about 4 full tab menu shouts in around 10 minutes. This didn't bug me too much, but it does get to a point as to where your right Awn. Most of the NA players think that higher JP players should help for everything. Now, i'm not too sure that many EN players still remember the beta *sigh*..but half of them have done all this before and know what they are doing. Really there isn't any reason not to /shout in your version of the game.

The thing I really hate is that everyone who does this is always begging. It's always some ((Help me out!)) ((Whatever Job)) ((Artifact)) # !!! ((Help Me out!)) ((Help me out!)) or some other stupid leeching request. I've yet to see a non-selfish request. I don't know if someone started some god awful trend and everyone followed because they thought it worked, but it's really getting annoying.

A few other nitpicking details that are pretty stupid.

Why are people using ((cap)) for limit?
HELP ME OUT ON THE LEVEL 50 HAT!!! OMG OMGOMG
Cap is in the "EQUIPMENT" category. Common sense, hello?

People using ((Yes, please)) as a way to say please. It's nice that you're trying to be polite, but it makes no sense whatsoever.

It's farfetched but i'd like to see some people use some common decency and common sense when tabshouting.

Don't just sit around and beg, try to actually organize something with people who are interested. Tag something on to get even more people.

      Example:

YES: ((Excuse me...)) ((Looking for members)): ((White Mage)) ((Red Mage)) ((Beastmaster)) AF3 - ((Fei'Yin)).

It's not the best for grammar but it has the important stuff.

NO: ((HELP ME OUT!!)) ((WHITE MAGE)) ((ARTIFACT)) 3 !!! ((HELP ME OUT!!!))

      1) You're actually organizing with people who want to do this stuff, instead of begging for high level help. Just a note..I believe ((Help me out!)) actually translates into SAVE ME. Kind of stupid to use, eh?
      2) It's a bit more polite.
      3) Common sense comes into play here, get off your ass and look up some info. Find who and what would be interested in something at the places you need to go. Try taking some time to help other people in your alliance with their quests instead of leeching off everyone, then flying to the next dung heap for whatever quest is next.

Few other notes for common begging requests:

Limit 1 - Everyone hated this quest and not many people are interested in doing it again (especially the eldieme item). There's tons of "good samaritans" out there, but things like papyrus tend to push the limits. Your best bets for this are to find people who want to skill up their low skilled weapons or other people doing the quest. This gets to Awntawn's original suggestion. ASK IN ENGLISH. The majority of the people doing this quest are english, why not turn to the majority? Most people out there have decent linkshells, try working together with your LS and then everyone can overcome the barrier. Unless you're just one of those shits that gets the item and "has to eat dinner" 3 minutes later.

Avatars - I know theres been a lot of debate about this in the summoner forums and I don't want to get into it here. But chances are, people want to join a real party for avatars. Not a lone leecher. Unless you have some friends who can help, don't expect much from people in Jeuno.

I joined a couple of NA-tabbed shouts in the past, and of course there weren't any JPs in the group. After a while I shouted in JP to help get more people in the alliance (without saying it's a full NA PT) and I instantly got five JP /tells saying they'll help. Then they joined and boy, were they in for a surprise when they found out they're helping a bunch of NAs. Can you say?@‚¤‚Í‚—‚—‚—ƒ}ƒW!? The JPs certaintly could. Some of the level 70 JPs switched to their level 60 jobs because they didn't want to die with their main.

I once tested how well tabbed shouts work in Port/Lower Jeuno, asking for help with NIN AF1 (even though I could solo it, which I did). After like 20 minutes of constant tabbed-shouting during JP peak hours, I got one NA WAR55/NIN10 saying that he'll help and zero JPs saying they'll help.

So to reinforce what Awntawn said, shout in English. Many of the JPs ignore tabbed shouts. Most of the time only English speakers answer tabbed shouts. Since that's the case you might as well shout coherently to begin with.

And just for reference sake about the following tab phrase:

          ([Help me out!])

On the JP version, that translates into something like "Save me!"... its something you would say if you we're running from an enemy or something.. not something you use in a shout.
I plan to live forever.. so far so good.

Yes, but half the Japanese shouts ask for help too, anyway. Eg

            ?„?@‚±‚ê‚©‚ç?ÔAF‚RƒKƒ‹ƒŒ?[ƒW‚ÅNM‚ð?í‚É?s‚«‚Ü‚·?B?s‚«‚½‚¢•û?A‚¨Žè“`‚¢—l‘劽Œ}?A/tell‘Ò‚Á‚Ă܂·?B?¡‚T–¼?B

Admittedly it's worded nicer, but it's not that much different.

Since Malachite mentioned Avatars, how high must I be before attempting to join summons fights? 61rdm/30whm now, I've seen a bunch of people /shouting for avatar fights, but doing a /sea all (name) shows they're lvl 75, and I'd much rather not ask if it would seem like I'm attempting to 'mooch' off them ...

And one reason I think why NAs try to get the help of Japanese, is because NAs in general tend not to help if there's nothing in it for them. It's one thing to help me with something, and then ask for help with something later on. It's another total different thing to say "I will help you with xxx if you promise to help me with yyy."

Thats only recently because people need to redo all the summons for fenrir... and japanese ask 100x nicer then the otherwise. Its more like 'would you like to team up and do XXXXX', instead of 'help me do XXXXX'.

But regardless, dont turn it into another JP Vs NA thread... just stop the tab shouts^^

I just find this topic funny, as I have seen alot of JP people doing Tab only shouts as well. I've talked to them and they said they were doing it because they thought it would be rude to just shout in thier own language, not letting the ppl who do not speak jp not understand them...
                      It's all about communication...

This is the biggest problem with the Tab Menu in that the context is totally wrong when it comes out the other side to the Japanese players. I honestly would've thought the NA players would've realised this by now but they don't seem to have or are just ignorant to it. It's also got to the point now where every person doing a tab menu shout is asking anyone who replies to it how much they want for the help which is just sad.

I've been doing shouts a couple weeks ago for the adv job, nin. At that time, I believe I was a lvl 46 thf with a non-underleveled war sub, and no one was willing to help. I did not use the "Help me out!" translation for the reasons already explained above, and I still got no help for neither NA or JP.

Yes, some people are obsessively greedy and would like to complete af3 with a lvl 50 job. But for christ sakes, I was lvl 46, far above the lvl 30 minimum lvl requirement to take on that quest and I still got no help from shouts. This only proves that if you looking to hitch a free ride, you'll get no help, but if you aren't, you probably won't get any help either.

What I do now, is join japanese shouts. Even with that tactic, I still get "Sorry, pt full" or the "We have thf in PT" excuses. Generally, I tend to get accepted a lot easier joining JP shouts than doing my own shouts.

                            Tabbed translations....

While I understand some Japanese, I'm using the NA client, so I could not type it.... I looked up the Playonline site and saw what some of the tabbed translations say in Japanese. For example, I know that {Nice to meet you.} turns into Hajimemashite.... and I usually add Yokoshiku at the end of that, in Romanji...

I DIDN'T know that {Help me out} turns into Tasukete (sp?)....

I wish that there is a list of the tabbed translation and its Japanese equiv out there. If there is, could some one point that out so people like me would stop making a fool of themselves?

                            Thanks in advance.

They should add some new ones to take modern phrases into consideration, eg.

                              "lolzorrrrrzzzz" -> "‚¤‚Í‚—‚—‚—‚—‚¨‚‹‚—‚—‚—‚—"
