I only go on EN version for mission cutscene nowadays... one reason and one reason only:

Japanese Input. I can type both languages on JP version, one language on NA version...
I plan to live forever.. so far so good.

I use the NA version mainly for questing and missions.

I use the JP client because I can't buy the NA version and I'm too young to legally work in the US.

I'm too lazy/poor to buy the NA version, JP works just fine for me. But I will get it eventually so I can play both. I just have better things to do with my money and time. Not to mention I find myself playing less and less so putting more money into the game would be foolish foolish foolish!

I’m sure 95% of the importers still on JP version would switch to NA if you were able to type in Japanese and I’m the same way. Don’t forget Black Heart that importers are like 1000+ hours ahead of all the North Americans so 99.9% of the people they PT with are Japanese. After playing the game for so long you realize that the ability to communicate effectively is more important than being able to read the game easier.

Lukily for me I found a way to type in Japanese using the NA version by using macros. Right now I have 8 pages worth of macros filled up on Japanese text alone and with 20 boxes in each so that's about 160 different JP sayings. I think I have enough to get me through. Of course I’m only so limited to the things I can say but it’s enough for me. Of course it’s really bad if a JP asks me a direct question. Anyway JP text is easier to read after you’ve played for so long.

Don’t get all offended by people not switching to NA. There’s like 10 reasons why JP version is better than NA version but only 1-2 reasons why NA version is better than JP. If you’ve been playing on the JP version for over a year you would understand. If 99% of the people you PT with are JPs, then the Romaji and ([Tab Menu]) crap don’t cut it. It’s like me trying to talk to you in Spanish. Sure you could understand a few words but overall it’s pretty messed up and gay.

                  simply because of JP input/kaomoji.

I'm a DRK, so I make most of my PTs, I cant get away with (|Team Up?|) or romaji, I have to use japanese characters

Have both EN and JPN client as well as beta.. I would reinstall my JPN client (which I would really like to again) if it wasn't for the fact that im not all into that seperating hardware drives and stuff and that I only have one 30gig Hardrive and having two versions (all though not sure if it does it) would take up practically half of my space.

If there was a way to have both clients on my computer given the utilities to work with as I do now I would most likely, 100% sure that I would do like every other ex/current importer would do and play on the JPN client except for missions.

Sounds like someone is alittle disturbed by the fact that importers are still using the JPN client .. if not, this thread wouldnt have been posted

I keep using the JP client despite having a copy of the EN client because it makes me better than all NA. . . kidding >.> but i began out on the JP client and i've just become accustomed to it. Granted i havn't goten as much out of the game with say story and what not but i'm now comfortable with it. And as Seymoure said if EN client allowed us to type JP i would deffinitly be on that.

                        like nodachi.
                        1. I've been seeing japanese texts for years. I got used to it and makes me easier to identify what's going on with just a glance.
                        2. I want to type japanese.

I might get the NA version if manual Japanese text entry was allowed. There's also still the issue of what HDD software is shipping with the NA HDD. If it's that HDD Utility Disc, like what Japan originally got with their HDDs before PSBBN, I'm going to be very reluctant to get it. Also, there's less reason for me to get a NA HDD since HDD support has been removed from most older North American releases for PS2. Another $99 for a piece of hardware I already have, with more capabilities on the unit I already have, is not appealing to me. I'm also not going to shell out the money to get a PC that can run it when my PS2 already does the job well enough.

Well, first off, I agree with most all the reasons that have been listed thus far, so I don't see the need to rehash them.

I, too, am playing on the PS2 version. My computer is also too old to run the PC version of either the JP or NA release. I have a reserve on the NA PS2 version which I will purchase and install day one. I will primarily continue to use the JP version for all the reasons mentioned above, but I want to add a couple things:

                            1) Frankly, after hearing tales of how NPCs talk, it's kinda nice NOT too see that junk. I get enough of that "tawwu wawwu" garbage on my linkshell these days, I don't want to see it every time I talk to a taru NPC.

                            2) Regarding the prior question of "Why do you want to PT with only JP players? blah blah blah racist blah blah blah" ..Well, with my subjobs, I'll PT with whomever gives me a call, I don't really care. I do feel I get better experience with a JP PT ordinarily, but my opinion is that getting SOME experience in a NA PT beats standing in Jeuno getting no experience whatsoever. HOWEVER.. For those of us who are high levels and still need to reach the cap, PTing with NA players is simply not an option. Yes, there are a handful of NA players who have reached 70+. But how would you ever make a level up PT with them? You would have to have 6 people who were online, within two levels of each other, interested in a level up PT, and had 3 attackers and 3 mages (really at my level, you need to be far more specific in what you're looking for than just any 3 attackers and any 3 mages, but finding even that would be impossible among NA). So JP PTs are the only option for my RDM.

And again, I agree with all the other things that have been said, particularly the "Typing in Japanese to avoid annoying tells" thing. ^^

What irks me is people who say Im racist for only playing with JP, first, I'm a red blooded american white boy. Secondly, I don't HAVE to PT with you. Sure, I'll take a NA into my group in a hearbeat, but if he's a white mage with a thief sub 'to steal teh beastcoins', I'm not gonna take him. Basically, the reason we want this JP input is simply so we are open to all three types of parties, JP, EN, and JP EN. Hey, maybe if the Japanese were a little more tolerant to EN people and didn't base level 65s on the level 10s behavior, we wouldn't have to keep our JP versions, or maybe if Square didnt add in those fucking (|Bars|), they wouldnt notice we were the evil Americans come to destroy their game. I guess they have forgotten that they once sucked ass too.

                                Playing JP Client Exclusively

I have been told that I am racist by the starter of this thread, and people I have met online. Ya know what? I dont care what those kinds of people think.

The starter of this thread and EVERY other NA player and Import player ALL claim to be a good player. Think about it, have you ever heard someone say, well I suck? I have not.

                                1) FFXI is a CONSOLE game first. The Japanese have had contact w/NA players in PSO. Was it a good experience? It certainly wasnt for me. I was PKd and had my weapons stolen on many an occasion. Every console online game I have personally played w/NA players has only caused me frustration at the cheating and rudeness. (If you think I am racist for saying Americans are rude, how many times have you yelled at a shop clerk for doing their job, or how many times have you been 1 step shy of road rage becoz someone cut you off?) Based on PSO, JP players do NOT want to associate w/Americans. The vast majority of NAs I have associated with only made me angry.

                                2) I want to play with Japanese players not Americans. I have been in one American lvl down PT. It was not fun. They didnt understand the ettiquitte. The Party sucked. Everything my NA friends told me about how NA PTs suck came shockingly true. I was appalled.

                                3) I understand some Japanese. I will NOT give that up.

And if I told a JPN that I dont party with Japanese, they wouldnt call me a racist facist. They would say. OK Nice to meet you anyway.

                                Battra

I have been playing this game since 11/01/02.
