  • Please read my story...this is my worst experience in ffxi.

I posted this on a few other forums, just because I wanna know what the general FFXI population thinks, and how they would react if they were in a situation like this.

After this party I had today...I've been questioning whether or not I can play FFXI again.

I am a lv32 Samurai Tarutaru. I'm on the ramuh server. The day started out pretty good, I had just completed my first gobbiebag quest. I get an invite from a white mage I had met before. He says he wants to start a party, so I say sure. Anyway, to cut that short, we ended up getting a Paladin, Dark Knight, bard, Black mage, and the white mage and myself.

It was goin alright, I was the puller, and the paladin tanked. I made a mistake and pulled when the white mage was AFK. I admited, it was an accident, and I didn't know the white mage was gone. The paladin said we should zone, and leave. But I've never been one for running away, so I said "no! let's fight" because I really didn't think there was much danger, it was a weak bat. We weren't always depending on the white mage. Anyway, to make that portion short, we lived the battle, there was no harm done just as I expected. I said i was sorry i didn't know the white mage was gone. Then I made a comment to the paladin by saying "see, you don't always to zone when the white mage isn't around to protect you"

This is where the heat began, the paladin said "**** you ockman" PERSONALLY, i do not think my comment deserved such a comment. So i said something in responce like "at least I'm not a coward" Well after my next pull, the paladin didn't attack, instead they stood there, and did the /laugh emote and from what the white mage told me, the paladin was saying to them in /tell to not cure me! Well when this was happening, i was just really mad, i told the paladin straight out "GET OUT, and to leave!" because that was just really immature.

After the next battle, they left...everything went fine for a while, we found a replacement theif, and surprisingly, we did better without the paladin. Unknown to me at the time, one of the other members must've been friends with the paladin. During a battle, i was in the middle of...i was all of a sudden OUT OF THE PARTY...booted without any warning or reason. I see the paladin from before running by, and entering the battle.

I'm screaming in say "what happened" and "what's going on??" turns out, either the bard, or black mage was buddy buddy with the paladin, and planned this whole conspiracy.

Now, anyone with common sense, should know that that is just a rude, and cruel act. I myself, would have left the group instantly, if someone had done that to a previous member. The theif did it too after the stuck up for me after I got booted. However, the white mage, and dark knight, just stood there, and accepted it. Saying "oh well, sorry, i want the exp" This just completely blew my mind!!! How on earth could they be willing to party with such jerks. They kept telling me "i'm netruel" but umm, i wouldn't feel too confident, and enjoy myself that much if i was playing with such backstabbing people.

After that I just got really upset, I was left there, without a party...only the theif left the group, cause they agreed that the party was too mean to continue playing with, but they soon found another party themselves. My mind though is just blown away at this outragous, and cruel display within a group. I have played FFXI for 1 year and 5 months and never experienced anything like this. After this incident, I dont know if I can trust FFXI players anymore, especially on my server.

sorry for this super long story, but if you managed to read through it, please tell me your thoughts...and would you have left the party or stayed in it like that white mage and dark knight did.

Well, first of all, you shouldn't let one bad party experience stop you from playing the game. Just like in life, there are good people and bad people everywhere you go, and you're going to run into all types.

However, it is worth mentioning that you did contribute to the escalation of the situation. I know, if I had been that paladin, I would have been rather irritated at your initial comment, especially after you had just made a bad pull. When I'm playing a PLD, I tend to feel a certain responsibility for the lives of my party that leads me to be less inclined to take risks as far as reacting to such situations, and basically being called a coward because of that conservative approach would tick me off. That certainly doesn't justify his reaction, but it really probably wasn't the best foot to step out on under the circumstances.

As for his response, and the subsequent events... well, some people are jerks. It doesn't matter whether you're in the real world, on a message board, or in an online game, some people just aren't very nice, and can be very hard to deal with. However, those people are generally a minority, and you shouldn't allow one bad experience to ruin your view of what on the whole is a very good game with a lot of good people in it.

    Just my view.

      Hey Ockman,

I am very sorry to hear about your experience. Storm was right tho, your initial comment was .......undesirable to say the least, coming from someone that just made a bad pull. Oh well.....shizz happens. I hope it doesnt discourage you from continuing on. Storm took everything I wanted to say so......^^

BTW, if you could give me the names of those ppl, I'd be happy to add them to my train list hehehhe j/k.

PS: I am in Ramuh too. Give me a holla when you see me.

      Best of luck !

I think you misread one thing I said though. I did not call him a coward until AFTER he said F U, which is much more a mean comment then what I said before. I meant it as a statement of fact, you don't always have to go zoning because there's a small amount of danger involved. I like by the samurai code, and one of the lines of codes is "Cowardness is dishonorable" hehe took that out of the strat guide, but I like it.

Sounds like he was already panicked by the heat of battle and the possibility of dying. Already stressed by his current job as tank, and having to deal with this a bad pull, he was at his top. And then, the comment probably made him explode.

Yeah, I know. I've had times where I've wanted to quit because there have just been horrible people in the party. But since the start of the NA release, I've seen rather few bad people. In parties I'm usually running into the nice people to chat with or the quiet types.

I don't think, however, that you should let this minority get to you. I mean, as playing for as long as you have, surely you've run into worse, right? Don't let them get you down. Instead, know this: you as a player, are better. You have honor. You know you couldn't go and do something like that, right? However, just be a bit cautious with your wording (I need to do this as well :sweat. Keep in mind that everywhere you go, there's always a chance you're going to run into some jerks. However, take comfort in the fact that there are too many jerks in FFXI.

Good luck on the rest of your journeys. PM me if 'ya want ^_^

"see, you don't always to zone when the white mage isn't around to protect you"

As far as I'm concerned, this amounts to a thinly veiled accusation of cowardice.

Considering the times I have died by provoking a monster (for example, the random elemental spawn-and-add that happens so often in Tahrongi Canyon) and holding it while the rest of the party escaped, I'd be rather insulted by this statement.

My first responsibility as a paladin is to protect the lives of everyone else in my party. Most of the paladins I've partied with seem to have this attitude... it's one of the things that makes the Paladin job attractive to us. We don't mind dying ourselves from time to time, but we HATE seeing anyone in our party die, because it means we've failed in our charge. As such, when I'm playing a PLD, if I judge that my party is overmatched or unprepared to deal with a situation, I will instruct them to run.

Having someone mouth off at me after the fact is not likely to sit very well with me, I think.

Again, it doesn't justify the way they reacted, but you can't completely absolve yourself of responsibility in this situation, either.

I've met alot of pld's and none of em are really ok with dying once in a while and I can understand d0h.. :D and when someone else dies it's really not always pld fault

About the comments ingame, well when I have a bad pt or some bad people @ first I'm like all nice and try to suggest better ways of playing with alot of smileys ^^
If it would still turn out bad I'll leave or shut my mouth and suck it up (too desperate for exp :D)
Some people get angry for no reason, like when you said "see, you don't always to zone when the white mage isn't around to protect you", I would think that's a good joke :D and the pld just gotta admit that you were right, no blame towards the pld tho cause you could have lost also
But when the pld says the FU comment and you answer with "at least I'm not a coward", you knooow it will go bad ^-^

                  I hate being a tank.
It can be fun sometimes, but everyone in the PT ends up pissing me off.
I have to keep track of my provokes,
deal with the non-tanks (and I mean NON-tanks) provoking just when I'm able to provoke again,
keep argo off the mages (some are better than others),
pull (I usually volunteer, because I have 0 faith in people
I don't know to be good at their job...which is pretty much everyone),
buy those stupid fishkabobs (useful, but expensive ¬¬),
AND 'RUN' IS SUPPOSED TO MEAN 'RUN NOW'....

I need to get this bastard to lvl 30 so I can screw around with other stuff....
but then I got another 7 lvls of BS...

Not even gunna go into my low invite rate.
With Paladins out there, it's amazing there are warriors over lvl 30.
...ok I lied, I got into it. :p

I am not looking forward to the next cap. :[

I'm a tank and pretty mellow when something screws up, like a bad pull. I just brush it off "meh" and wait for curse to lift. If you made a comment like that to me, i'll just be "hehehehe..". Admitting i was wrong about not fighting it. Dont worry you'll find plenty of parties. Oh yea listen to these guys and train them

Hmmm, I don't think so. The sort of person that gets excited and explodes will calm down in a few min, that guy was acting really vindictive.

Anyway, you should have thought a bit more before saying your first comment, it's easy to take that sort of thing as an insult. The other guy was out of line with the "Fu*k you" stuff and you should not have responded to it or should have said you did not mean the first comment as an insult. Instead you made it worse by calling the guy a coward. Anyone that tanks is not a coward. He might have been an asshole but coward? No. Anyway, just blist him and his goons and get on with the game. Just think a bit more before saying stuff.
