Re: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix for PS3
I literally replayed KH2 like 2 weeks ago, because my fiancé wanted to know what happens but didn't want to actually play through it. I didn't find limit attacks to be OP, since they leave you without MP, which means no Cure or Reflect. They're basically the same thing as KH1's Trinity Limit anyways. Drive forms are great for kicking mook ass, but most bosses are only vulnerable for a few seconds at a time, so you rarely get full mileage out of them. Demyx, Xaldin, Xigbar and Xemnas (the last one) still kicked my ass as hard as the first time I played through the game.
Honestly, Birth by Sleep is much more broken. There's no safeguards against filling up your deck with as many Cures or Potions as you need, so you can take insane amounts of punishment and still be able to cycle through your heals. Shotlocks made you fully invincible and Focus Rage let you shotlock back to back just by continuing to take hits. The top tier attacks in Birth By Sleep are insanely destructive, but unlike drive forms there's little stopping you from spamming them, and then to top it all off they fail against most bosses that matter so you need a separate deck for the boss. I found it to be more fun since you could customize more, and the plot actually continued in the Disney worlds instead of them being two disjoint plot threads, but balance-wise it was pretty bad.
I'll grant you that reaction commands were implemented pretty terribly. The triangle button is way out of the way and there's nothing stopping you from mashing that button pre-emptively so there's no timing or reaction involved. And yeah, crafting was just fucking confusing in KH2, the shops never updated and you never had enough munny.
Actually, I'm talking about the transformation drives, the unbalanced limit attacks, and much of the battles being built around over-the-top action all triggered by the Triangle button.
