  • COD Coming to PSV

    I said it would only be a matter of time and lo & behold, here it is;

Sony: Call of Duty blasting onto Vita this fall | Joystiq

Call of Duty will be launching on Vita this fall, Sony's SVP of PlayStation Brand Marketing told Game Trailers in a video interview. SVP Guy Longworth, hired by Sony in October 2011, casually dropped the news about Vita's Call of Duty title, saying his kids love first-person shooters and "in the autumn, they're really looking forward to Call of Duty on Vita, and we think that's going to be an absolute game-changer for the platform."

When pressed for more details, Longworth said Sony wasn't ready to announce which title will be hitting Vita, but we bet it'll be the one with the guns during that war against those bad guys with strange accents.

Now all SONY needs is a good GTA game and we may have a decent competition on our hands for once rather than Nintendo's traditional steam rolling. It'll be interesting especially if there's any kind of interaction with the PS3 - being able to play with PS3 people would be pretty cool and would set the bar for future games on the Vita. I think the $250 price tag is going to remain a sticking point for most people however, myself included - at least until either the 2nd generation is out or some must-have titles are released. I don't particularly fancy playing Uncharted on a handheld and I couldn't care less about the Resistance game after the shit that was R3's campaign.

    Re: COD Coming to PSV

PSP had CoD and GTA. Neither did anything for them. CoD's audience is on console and PC, primarily 360 and Steam more than it is PSN. They're not going to split attention to a handheld for that experience.

What Sony needs is an internally created IP that is Vita centric and has the qualities that make things like Pokemon and Monster Hunter so appealing, but I'm afraid that with Sony being as cinematic and story-focused as they are they couldn't pull together an IP like those because both of devoid of such things. They're games that can be enjoyed solo or with friends.

Nintendo has Pokemon, MG and Dragon Quest now. That's a powerful trinity of franchises to have in your camp for Japan. That's the reason why 3DS is now at five million units sold. It might just be Monster Hunter Tri 3G for now, but that will change. do you think with a market like that that Capcom would jeopardize splitting this new user base with a Vita port. Not bloodly likely.

The cross-platform play isn't going to live past this year, either. They very company that championed it - Konami - has already backed out of the transfarring concept and while Sony is offering freebies to UMVC3 and Wipeout players on Vita now, something tells me big third parties aren't going to jump on that if they can just sell separate versions across Vita and PS3 - again, Konami already gave up because they saw money flying out the window. MGS HD Collection on Vita is a separate version. FFX is separate versions. I don't like that its happening, but nothing is going to trend away from that now.

Vita's biggest problem is memory and a total lack of multi-tasking - both make the system unattractive to people with devices that have internal storage or affordable options. I can got to Radio Shack any month and at least one of the weeks out of that month there will be a sale on SD cards. I cant get a 16GB SD card for $20. Vita 16GB cards are $60.

Some argue that price is for speed, but Sony has not disclosed what the Class of these cards are and you can only transfer data from your PC to the vita through a Vita-centric content manager. But go play a demo Kiosk and boot up Uncharted and then try to boot up anything else. Uncharted came on the actual game format, so it boots up quickly enough, about on par with RE:Revelations and MGS3D. Load up any other demo - which are loaded on the vita memory card, and enjoy waiting at least 2-3 minutes to start a game off one.

I have Mass Effect loaded on a 16GB class 4 SD card and it loads faster on my 360 than Gravity Rush on Vita. That card is also below the standard MS prefers I would use with on 360.

As for the multitasking, its pretty fucking sad that I can have my iPhone4 and 3DS back out to let me multitask, but Vita can't. This isn't 2007. I've seen people make the excuse that iPhone was once like that and its a bullshit argument. Its like giving Origin a pass because Valve had a rough start with Steam. Apple broke ground with iPhone, Steam broke ground on digital distribution - Sony and EA had all the time in the world to watch and plan and provide something comprable.

Nintendo paid attention and they move like a snail on technology. And, amazingly, 3DS someone has a better browser than the Vita. Its still shit compared to Safari on my iPhone, but better than what Vita has and I don't have to quit my game to look at it. 3DS seems to know its 2012.

I entertained the idea of getting a Vita, but Sony is going to have to fix a lot or some really killer games are going to need to be announced to sell me on one. 3DS is hitting a good stride right now and between my 360, Wii, 3DS and iPhone I don't have a lot of room left for other gaming stuff. Show me Persona 4, show me some other killer RPG and maybe then I'll care. An FPS I wouldn't play on consoles isn't going to sway me and I doubt it will anyone in the West save for the deeply loyal Sony fan.

I just think its going to play out like the PSP. Nintendo and Apple have the handheld and mobile market on lockdown.

Well that second stick helps, I played RE:R on 3DS with the Circle pad pro, and loved the hell out of it.

Oh, someone tested Vita card speeds to gauge what class they really were.

Turns out they clock around the reading speeds of a Class 4 SD card, which means the 16gb Vita memory cards should be around $19.99 to $29.99. Instead, people be paying two or three times more than what they'd pay for a comprable SD card.

yeah I knew that "high speed" was a load of BS, one thing I hate about Sony and MS both, over charging for simple flash cards

Yeah but MS charges $29.99 for an 8GB USB memory stick for 360, an 8GB Vita memory card is $39.99. So with Sony you're getting hosed for ten more dollars.

At Radio Shack, an 8GB SD card will run you about $14.99 and I just got at 16GB Class 4 for $19.99.

Just, stop right there. Comparing Vita to PSP is like comparing the 360 to the Atari.

It just had all kinds of issues since launch, nothing could have saved it sadly (outside of Japan anyway). It's not a fair comparison at all. Assuming SONY's not stupid enough to repeat the ad-hoc only bullshit again, COD & GTA should do just fine on the platform. With the dual analogs (and I mean actual analogs and not that retarded nub) and that nice wide screen games are going to be much more playable this time around. The Vita has pretty much corrected all the hardware problems the PSP had, all it needs now is good 3rd party & online support. A price drop would definitely help but I don't see that happening until at least next year, possibly this coming fall at the earliest.

                  Sorry, no.

GTA was going to be the game that helped PSP crush DS. It never happened with either GTA game. CoD games do sell on PSP, but they sell on anything no matter how shitty they might be because they're called Call or Duty. As its stands a new CoD is out every year on handhelds, too. Wii even. It will sell, but its not going to be a killer app for Vita.

Also, the Ad Hoc bullshit is all over a lot of the Vita launch titles. I think Capcom is the one of the few that actually included online play.

Even if CoD had online play do you want to play online multiplayer on a handheld that won't last three hours and depend on a spotty wifi connection to do so? I just don't see it working out that well.

                    Re: COD Coming to PSV

Being able to play a quick round or two of CoD when you're on the go will attract a lot of people I'd wager. Consoles/PC will always be preferable for FPS, but having the option to go handheld at times doesn't hurt.

As for Sony overcharging on their pos memory sticks... yeah, they can DIAF with those prices. It's like they try to make their stuff as appealing as possible, but then at the last minute the higher ups make arbitrary demands to screw over the consumers. It's almost as though Sony were bipolar @_@

                      Re: COD Coming to PSV

The community is already defined for CoD, no one is going to buy a Vita for a few rounds on the go when they have to contend with spotty public Internet and none of thier friends owning a Vita.
